Face of £50 note

Does it have to be relevant the person is not still living? How many will look at these notes and haven't a clue who the picture portrays if that person passed away years ago.

I love the tribute to the unknown soldier idea.

How about a tribute to The Commonwealth? I say stick Dame Edna Everidge on the 50's!

I like the idea of Clem Attlee. Unknown soldier a good idea too.

I don't care. I very very rarely have cash, in fact, only for buying raffle tickets and a soft drink at my local club once a month. I often forget to get cashback at my local supermarket on the day and a friend will stand me the ticket and drink which I repay later Plastic and PayPal are my friends.

I just hope that whoever it is there is a great deal of publicity about it - enough for me to remember, as these sort of questions come up in quizzes all the time lol

Mrs Pankurst is very appropriate this year. I try to get rid of £50 notes as soon as possible on the odd occasion I am given them not always easy to use them

I'm really surprised people have had problems presenting £50 notes, most shops (larger ones anyway) seem to scan them now.

Clement Attlee surely? The most radical and reforming Prime Minister the UK had, and rated by academics as the most important PM of the 20th Century.

Margaret Thatcher was the diametric opposite of Attlee - where he built, she destroyed.

The " face " should be that of a pioneer of sorts such as someone has mentioned----AGBell. Louis Pasteur,Marie Curie,etc. Someone who,from the past,we can all associate with in modern day society.

Margaret Thatcher - never. The social housing shortage lies at her feet, and she didn't do anything for women whilst she was Prime Minister.

Who would want a £50 note.? I hate our currency notes of any denomination for fear of losing these flimsy pieces of'' what ever' they consist of. I use debit or credit cards as yet to find any retailer who won't accept these as payment. I can also pay car park fees by card. For the times my purchases may be small, a coffee or I need a supermarket trolley I carry a few pound or fifty pence coins.

I would also support Nye Bevan, or Ernie Bevan, both did more for the positives in this country than Margaret bloody Thatcher could ever claim.

Another vote for Nye Bevan here. Definitely not Thatcher!!! Alan Turing would also get my vote.

I definitely don’t think it should be a politician - they are all divisive and annoying- Mary Quant is a good idea - she really changed fashion for women- gave them freedom to wear exciting easy comfortable clothes - someone has suggested Elizabeth Frink - excellent idea - wonderful meaningful sculptures.

Also agree about Alan Turing - so badly and cruelly treated by our country

I was given one as a present but just haven't been able to spend it - not that I haven't wanted to buy something with it, but once it's gone, it's gone as they say

The Queen is already on all our notes, so it’ll have to be someone else.
We’ve had Florence Nightingale, but another great lady in nursing was Mary Seacole, who has remained largely unacknowledged.

The Queen is already on very banknote but it would be jolly to have Her consort on the reverse.
