I presume what he's wearing at the war memorial is 'tropical kit'. Quite normal for dress uniform in warmer climes.

I am beginning to find the couple slightly sickening tbh. Yes, partly it's to do with them leading fairly charmed lives or being protected in high style from life's slings and arrows. I appreciate bot their lives have been troubled but so very few of us have such wealthy, privileged, protected, lives being made easy - a fabulous cushion against adversity.

They are being feted like stars, as if they are special, wonderful people and it does stick in the craw a bit, especially when for most of us and in particular for anyone facing daily struggles, life can be very tough.

It might be good old envy raising its ugly head but I won't apologise for being slightly sick of the pair of them. They come across as being slightly smug imo.

Yes, my opinion. The queen has done a marvellous job, I am sure old-school Charles will, as will Charles' heir Will, but I just wish the rest of the royals, especially the young 'celebrity' element would fade off the scene and stop 'treating ' us to these displays of ostentatious privilege.

The Australians seem to be lapping it up, however. I am probably in the minority with my thoughts, but like 'annsixty we are entitled to them. I suspect we are not alone.

I do not want celebrities in the British royal family, but we now have them with these two. The Queen has never ‘done celebrity’, neither has Charles and William seems to have the same sense of duty.

I agree about the celebrity factor but the royal family has been evolving for decades now. The Queen's approach to duty has been with us for a long time but we can't expect younger generations to take an interest in old school royalty. Charles is popular in an avuncular way and bridges the gap nicely between young and old. William has been groomed to take over from him eventually so that leaves Harry to find his own way.

He's found it, alright. Good for him.

Gosh - this couple seem to come in for a lot of flak! Let this lass wear whatever she wants; let them enjoy the first flush of love and delight in the pregnancy. They did not choose to become celebrities - the media have imposed this on them.

Of course they are privileged, but in her case she has also gained wealth my hard work in her chosen profession of acting.

What is Harry to do? - drop out of royal engagements? - refuse to have anything to do with it all? How the heck can he? - that would certainly make him a "sleb!"

The truth is that lots of people delight in following their lives and who I am to say they should not? I am not a royalist, but a realist.

I'm not a royalist and never will support a monarchy. But I do think I wouldn't enjoy all that touring in Australia. no thank you.

of course they "choose celebrity" if they dont want it they can easily walk away from it .The great publicity machine that works its socks off for the RF need them to be part of it,it ensures the sheeple who think the RF are superior beings will keep fighting their corner and telling the rest of us we only pay pennies for them and get great value in return.The whole point is WE didnt get asked if we WANTED to pay those pennies for centuries and some of us dont agree with the whole hereditary system still in place when its a medieval concept.

Having just spent an hour and a half bathing, hairwashing and dressing DH, I do envy the Queen. She will not have to go through this palaver and end up soaking wet and with the bathroom awash. Instead the D of E will be prepared by others for the odd occasion when he is trotted out or well cared for at home while the Queen performs her Royal Duties solo. #having a bad day

gillybarb; reminds me of our little Jessie. Bitches (hope that's still an OK word!) are known for leaving brown stains on lawns and she was no exception.
However, a more useful activity was for the chaps to do it up against our lemon tree. Very good at preventing infestations of citrus gall wasps, (of the tree, I mean)!

I would - but the early months of pregnancy combined with possible jetlag and then be expected to look good, meeting hundreds of people, getting up at 4.30 for yoga on the beach would have me putting my head under the bedclothes and growling "Go away the lot of you"!.

She wasn’t doing yoga on the beach at 4.30am, she told the people on the beach she enjoys yoga so much she did it at 4.30 that morning.

Well said Luckygirl - because what he is doing is representing the Queen, the Head of State for Australia. Whether or not they vote to become a republic at some future date is another matter; for the time being the RF has a job to do there and Harry is carrying out his duties and it appears that many Australians have welcomed him and his new wife.

Even if, at some future date, Australians reject the Monarch as the Head of State, I am sure they will still want to belong to The Commonwealth, whoever heads it in future.

Although, I must say that if you do suffer from jetlag, you can find yourself wide awake and raring to go at 4 am.

But yes Granny23 I agree. Sitting on uncomfortable plastic chair 2 hours in A&E with feet on next chair trying to sleep I couldn't help thinking the queen would not have to do this.
