Anyone ready to start knitting royal baby jackets?

oldbatty Wed 24-Oct-18 15:20:49

I think we need a bit more love on this forum sometimes.

gillybob Wed 24-Oct-18 15:23:42

Some people are tactile, some are not

I couldn't agree more Sparklefizz but surely not when you are (supposed to be) working....unless of course they are just on an all expenses paid (plus some) jolly holiday hmm

Tbh I don't know why I'm even having this conversation as I really don't care what they do. I am probably just bored and lonely.

gillybob Wed 24-Oct-18 15:26:05

I don't think touching/holding hands/ hugging etc. in public necessarily means you love someone any more than someone who is not comfortable doing this. Just different.

merlotgran Wed 24-Oct-18 15:40:25

I felt sorry for Kate at Eugenie's wedding where there was a brief shot of her putting her hand on William's knee. She may have been wanting to do something like that for ages and was spurred on by Meghan and Harry's PDAs.

William completely ignored her and studied the Order of Service.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 16:36:23

BlueBell, there is much more to love than clutching onto someone.

We see the human side of royalty often, is a smile or a handshake not human ? There are many photographs of queenie on and off duty exchanging smiles, she and Phillip, when on royal duties give their attention to the people not to each other .

I don’t need a couple to hold hands or clutch each other to show love , others do.

wildswan16 Wed 24-Oct-18 16:38:29

I think we need to give Meghan a bit of leeway. Yes, she is an accomplished young lady who is used to being in the limelight, but being at "royal" and state occasions is very different to anything she is used to. I think her husband is just trying to reassure her and guide her through all the protocol etc.

Prince William and Catherine are also the "heirs" to the throne so in a slightly different position.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 16:41:40

merlot her hand could have been on Williams knee far longer than the seconds it takes to click a a camera, how do you know William ignored her when you look at a photograph.

merlotgran Wed 24-Oct-18 17:05:36

Sigh.

Must you always nit-pick, Annie? It wasn't the click of a camera. It was a camera suitable for a live broadcast. Not a Box Brownie.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 17:22:37

Sorry merlot, I thought you said it was a photograph not a film,

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 17:26:36

This film clip merlot ?

Jalima1108 Wed 24-Oct-18 17:32:10

Aaaah!
They weren't on official duties, they were at a family wedding, and he has his hand over hers protectively.

merlotgran Wed 24-Oct-18 17:46:20

My mistake. I didn't see his hand on hers.

Baggs Wed 24-Oct-18 17:53:56

I think saying Meghan is being undignified because she holds her husband's hand or links onto his arm is bitching. Yes, it's only an opinion. And in my opinion it's a bitchy opinion because her actions are harming no-one and no-thing. She's being criticised for criticism's sake. Why should she be like the queen or other royals? She's herself, not born and bred to royal stiffness.

Could it be a sign of American openness about such things?

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Oct-18 18:05:14

Just come back onto this thread and there's still more petty criticism going on. Sigh ......

Bridgeit Wed 24-Oct-18 18:22:38

Yes , it appears we have learnt nothing, sad to read such unnecessary bitchyness, from those of us who have lived long enough to know how damaging it can be, usually it is the press who are guilty, sad to say this thread is doing the job for them .

oldbatty Wed 24-Oct-18 18:51:25

None of us know them (?). Its ok to express an opinion on something though I think.

I prefer Royals like a good cake, traditional, unsloppy and professionally put together.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 19:15:11

Saying Kate put her hand on Williams knee but he completely ignored her, she could have been wanting to do something like that for ages could be considered bitching ?

Saying Megan was not born to ‘royal stiffness ‘ could be bitching ?

Why this anger from some and accusations of critcism of this couple is bitching ? Has no one who accuses me of bitching never posted a criticism of anyone ?

paddyann Wed 24-Oct-18 20:26:55

the way I see it is if they dont want folk talking about them they should maybe get a REAL job and step out of the limelight .I do think Annie is right though ,he's too much his mothers son to do that ,she loved the press and as for his new wife well she's made a living out of being in the public eys so it shouldn't be a chore to her .As we all know I am a republican and I think all this nonsense about gruelling tours etc is ridiculous. She's young..ish ,fit and perfectly capable of shaking hands and smiling. Most of us ,at that age, would have had to get up early get other kids sorted for school, make breakfasts and get washing machine loaded ,food organised for after work and then head out to do our 8 or 10 hour stint in a job.Do you really think what the royals do is hard work compared to that?If you do then you have all had very privileged lives and now I know why you believe they are under pressure ! ha ..bloomin ha

paddyann Wed 24-Oct-18 20:27:27

she's YOUNG ...ISH

Iam64 Wed 24-Oct-18 20:36:16

Blimey - now we're back to dragging Harry's dead mother into the area of criticism. I realise I'm not a Republican (any more) but I am an ordinary person, I have children a similar age to the 4 young members of the RF currently being dissected on here. I am so relieved that their lives aren't the subject of such cold critical and negative comments from a lot of grannies who well- need to get a hobby if this is the best we can do.
I've avoided using the word "bitchy" - I hate it. I have a lovely 10 year old female dog, a bitch. that's what a bitch is. It bothers me that women use the word to describe other women -it's derogatory and nasty. I know I know, I'm probably a snowflake and should be congregating with my adult children, the so called snow flake generation. (mine and all their friends work their socks off by the way.)

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 20:43:59

Iam, I have many hobbies , as for being accused of bitching which means the posters consider me a bitch , I don’t care. I am no hypocrite .

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 21:06:34

The alleged handshake which some here will never forget

Most of us ,at that age, would have had to get up early get other kids sorted for school, make breakfasts and get washing machine loaded ,food organised for after work and then head out to do our 8 or 10 hour stint in a job.

Goodness, pregnant, children, doing all the chores and a 10 hour stint each day at work must have been tough paddyann.
I must have been lucky that I didn't work such long hours when I was pregnant, only part-time. But then, I had no child-care whatsoever and a DH who was away working.

eazybee Thu 25-Oct-18 08:08:32

Barefoot too, probably.

Anniebach Thu 25-Oct-18 08:31:12

When I was 37, my daughters were in school and I was working 5 hours a day , wouldn’t work full time because I wanted to be with my daughters when they were home from school, didn’t work school holidays or if they were ill.

I didn’t work when pregnant.
