Anyone ready to start knitting royal baby jackets?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Oct-18 09:10:41

Very true Annie, stability and tradition is very comforting in these turbulent times.

merlotgran Wed 24-Oct-18 09:16:34

It was on BBC2, Iam. You'll be able to watch it on iPlayer as it finished last night.

Assad is a monster but it's as much about his English born wife, Asma. I began by admiring her attempts at reform while coping with his awful family but by the end was wondering whether her compliance was for her own and children's safety or a hardened attitude to the terrible acts being committed against the Syrian population. hmm

Jalima1108 Wed 24-Oct-18 10:12:04

Stability, tradition, I am for it. me too.

Getting back to the hand holding (sorry everyone!) I have thought about it, a bit but not a lot! and decided that hand holding is lovely when they're off duty.
However, this is not a holiday, a jolly, they are working and representing the Head of State, so the hand holding could be considered inappropriate. I worked with a few married couples or people in partnerships and they didn't wander around at work hand in hand.

Jeez, if you could see DH and I at work anyone would think we were sworn enemies rather than a loving couple. One guy who used to work for us (now retired) used to put a hard hat on (as a joke) whenever we were in the office together grin

Riverwalk Wed 24-Oct-18 10:22:04

Oh, gilly I always imagined you and DH holding hands across the desks and smiling sweetly! grin

Jalima1108 Wed 24-Oct-18 10:22:15

grin
They didn't work together in the same teams and always seemed very civilised.

Jalima1108 Wed 24-Oct-18 10:23:59

ps I couldn't work with DH, it's bad enough if he asks me to check any reports etc that he's done if I find any errors or think he should have worded something better shock
"If you don't want to know, then don't ask"

gillybob Wed 24-Oct-18 10:28:55

Ha ha ha You couldn't be further from the truth River. We have the most tremendous battles ! Just as well DH is mostly out on site and I am in on my own otherwise we might kill each other. The problem is that he is an Engineer and not a business man, so hasn't got a clue about the administration, legislative or money side of things (always the lack of it). I hate my job (I wanted to work in a caring role) but have been thrust into it with no way out.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 12:14:45

Exactly Jalima, I couldn’t care less what they do in their private lives but this clinging when working is undignified, they are not walking down a street looking in shop windows, they are on official duty .

Megan in a pink patterned dress, hair not hanging around her face and flowers in her hair, what a difference

oldbatty Wed 24-Oct-18 12:45:06

The clinging is awful. Much prefer Wills and Kate. She isn't a clinger.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 13:24:50

It is batty. Heard her speech this morning, vulnerable ? away from all her friends? needing her husband’s support? Today we saw the woman who did that walk down the aisle, confident, self assured 37 year old woman who has addressed the UN

starbird Wed 24-Oct-18 13:35:04

I will never forget look on Blair’s face in first episode of Dangerous Dynasty when Assad announced his support for Middle East after Blair had just announced in a public speech his thanks for Assad’s support of the West (as agreed earlier at private talks). So humiliating. Priceless!

starbird Wed 24-Oct-18 13:48:07

In some photos Meghan looks about five months, in others (the long sleeved white dress) she barely looks pregnant at all. I read that Eugenie (on behalf of her mother? ?) asked them not to announce it until after her wedding. I hope it all goes well for them - Fiji is on the list of countries that have experienced cases of the zika virus). Bad planning.

merlotgran Wed 24-Oct-18 13:49:44

Oh yes. 'I'll be your New Best Friend, Mr. Blair after you've agreed with me that Israel must be destroyed.'

Gullible Tony was well and truly shafted!

merlotgran Wed 24-Oct-18 13:50:41

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

BlueBelle Wed 24-Oct-18 13:59:25

Well I think it’s lovely to see them holding hands why not Not enough love in the world My mum and Dad held hands all the time one of the last photos before Mum s Alzheimer’s became too bad is them going shopping hand in hand
I wish I had someone to hold my hand and be a bit caring (my ex was too busy always on the look out for the next pretty girl to hold mine) ?

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 14:05:08

Were your parents holding hands and working together BlueBell? This is the difference and holding hands in public on the world stage doesn’t prove love

gillybob Wed 24-Oct-18 14:15:43

I have to agree with you there Anniebach it would be like DH and I walking arm in arm/hand in hand to a meeting with one of our customers or suppliers. Not exactly appropriate.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 14:22:06

Exactly gilly, she even clings to his arm when they are sitting together , they are not in the cinema or on a park bench , they can snog away I don’t care, they are at work , they are representing queenie, she has managed all these years without grabbing Phillip, not in public anyway ?

Baggs Wed 24-Oct-18 14:38:11

Why does it matter if Meghan holds Harry's arm or hand? There's nothing wrong, untoward or undignified about it. Stop bitching.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 14:46:18

Posting an opinion on behaviour in public is not bitching, stating a poster who posts an opinion you disagree with as bitching is bitching and uncalled for

gillybob Wed 24-Oct-18 14:47:05

I really couldn't give a monkeys toot what they do Baggs.

Just agreeing with Annie that if they are (as plenty claim they are) "at work" then being all "touchy feely, lovey dovey " is probably not very appropriate and I don't think that is "bitching" in the slightest.

Anniebach Wed 24-Oct-18 14:53:08

gilly, they are on official duty and will receive monies for doing so.

BlueBelle Wed 24-Oct-18 15:07:18

Oh but why split hairs they not sitting in an office they are out meeting the general public why shouldn’t they spread a bit of love
No my parents were in their late 80s so not at work Anniebach and as I said the photo showed them out shopping
Perhaps you d all prefer it if she walked two steps behind him
Why not show the human side of the Royalty.? When The Queen and Philip are out together hes usually behind her with his hands clasped firmly behind his back
I agree Bags I think what ever those two do, people will find fault and bitch about it As for ‘touchy-feely lovey dovey’ Gilly what have I missed was he caressing her, were they stopping to kiss every few moments I thought it was a plain and simple hand hold everyone was getting their knickers in a twist over

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Oct-18 15:12:18

Yawn !!! Same old same old. Same complaints on here that I was reading a few days ago! We are not all alike. Some people are tactile, some are not. There is not one right way of doing things. That's what makes the world go round.

We need more love in the world, there's too little of it.
