What I’d do with the extra inch

Just an inch or so would make all the difference. Well it would to me. But before you get carried away, this isn’t a saucy suggestion. Sorry.
There are several ways that inch would be helpful
Being an inch or so taller. Oh I hate being short. And I seem to have got shorter as I get older. In a crowd, I’m the one jumping up and down behind the six foot six giant of a man standing at the front. And nowadays, if you go to a concert, although there may be allocated seating, the second the star walks on stage, EVERYONE stands up, and stays on their feet till the last encore. And even in tiered seating, I am craning and shifting about to even catch a glance of the person I’ve just spent a fortune trying to see. So an extra inch would be useful
Being a rounder shaped lady, the loss of an inch or two would make my life easier. An inch off the hips and inch off the tum. Long haul flights would be so much easier if I wasn’t concerned about my spreading hips encroaching on the person I’m sitting next to. Even worse if that person is broad around the beam as well. The whole flight becomes almost intimate as our bodies touch and warmth is generated. And an extra inch off my middle would make those accidental looks in the mirror more bearable. You know the ones. You are in an unfamiliar shop, you look around and there’s a short, chubby woman dressed like you. Only it isn’t a stranger, you have caught sight of yourself, sideways in a mirror. So yes, one extra inch off would be welcome
And finally, that extra inch I crave. Could it be on my legs please? I can never seem to find trousers that are the length of my legs. I so often end up hemming them or turning the cuffs over to fit.
Anyone else need an extra inch?

My tummy is expanding Jalima but everything else is staying the same . I know I need to exercise more but just not in the right place at the minute . Too many other things going on .

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 14:26:50

and I'm shrinking - downwards.

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 14:26:20

^ I have no bum to speak of and very small hips^
That sounds like me - but oh so many years ago

Minerva Thu 11-Oct-18 14:25:02

Sorry. mabon not mabom

BBbevan Thu 11-Oct-18 14:24:29

I can give you an inch or two if you like. I am always getting asked in the supermarket, "Can you reach me down that love " ?

Minerva Thu 11-Oct-18 14:23:26

mabom1 I am sure I am not alone here in living with a chronic painful condition and enjoying reading a lighthearted thread to feel just that little bit better for a while.

GreenGran78 Thu 11-Oct-18 13:14:06

I’m just 5ft, and heartily agree with all the problems it brings. I have managed to lose a stone in weight, though. Only two more to go to get back to my pre-family size, but that will never happen!
The two things I would really like to lengthen, though, are my hands and feet. They are short and broad. How I would love to have them slim and elegant, with beautifully manicured and painted nails.
I am very lucky to be fairly fit, and very healthy, at almost 80, so I am certainly not ‘moaning’. Mabon1, I’m sorry, but I always think of you as ‘moany’, as you rarely seems to offer nice or cheerful comments to anyone.

ha ha.jessity. im with you there. ive never been 5ft 9 or size 8. why would i understand from that how that item of clothing would look on me. its meaningless unless you are 5ft 9 or size 8

gillybob Thu 11-Oct-18 12:41:43

I have the same problem with hips/waistline anno. I have no bum to speak of and very small hips. I struggle with skirts and trousers that fit my waist but are huge on the hips and bum. I think I must just be a weird shape.

annodomini Thu 11-Oct-18 12:29:19

An inch or two on my neck which seems to have shrunk over the years. And please could I have about four inches off my waist so that trousers that fit my hips also fit my waistline?

Legs55 Thu 11-Oct-18 12:18:48

1" off my tummy a few more would be better

MawBroon I have that magnet on my fridge, I love Garfieldsmile

gillybob Thu 11-Oct-18 12:03:54

I always wanted to be petite when I was younger Jalima but now that the weight is creeping on and I have lost the willpower to diet, I am grateful for being able to spread it around a bit.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 11-Oct-18 12:02:11

Buy Levis jeans in a Levis shop - they still shorten them for you. I know from experience being 5"2 in my stockinged feet.

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 11:53:50

5' 6" envy gillybob
I just wanted to be 5' 7" but I'd settle for 5' 6"!

gillybob Thu 11-Oct-18 11:51:11

Oh for goodness sake mabon1 do you not have a single lighthearted bone in your body?

If anyone wants an inch from my waistline (or back fat) they can have it gladly. Not giving up one inch of my 5ft 6" height though as it helps spread the weight about.

Jalima1108 Thu 11-Oct-18 11:50:46

I don't think the OP is moaning mabon - I find it rather amusing.,

And how do you know what ails any Gransnetter - just because they don't post about it does not mean they may not have problems.
Yes, we can always find someone worse off than ourselves but it doesn't mean that we should not wish to be a bit taller, lovelier, slimmer etc.

mabon1 Thu 11-Oct-18 11:43:04

If you are well then why are you moaning? a lady I know would give her right arm to be able to get out of bed each day.

Jessity Thu 11-Oct-18 11:38:55

Petunia, you could have been writing for me. I'm so tired of holding trousers against me in a shop and finding they trail on the floor several inches beyond the end of my feet.

And don't you just hate those clothing websites which say "the model is 5'10" and wearing size 8". Grrrrr.

Sheilasue Thu 11-Oct-18 11:37:25

Oh love yourself for what you are, we were born with what we got so make the most of it. I have big boobs 38g.
Fashion for us older ladies is so much better and we dress ourselves up to look fantastic or dress down and still look smart, make the most of what you have.

libra10 Thu 11-Oct-18 11:36:27

I'm another gransnetter who would love an extra inch or 10!

When shopping at Tesco, or other stores, I have to ask my husband to reach the top shelf. Clothes are difficult to find in my size, although Bon Marche do trousers starting at leg length 25". And taking a meagre size 2 in shoes, Pavers seems to be the only shop on the high street catering for this size.

Petite sizes aren't always 'petite' enough!

henetha Thu 11-Oct-18 11:19:08

I'm the exact opposite! At 5'7" I always felt too tall and wished I could be short. I've shrunk quite a bit and am only 5'5" now, but still taller than most of my friends.
It would help if I was willowy and elegant, but I'm not, I'm podgy and clumsy. Oh dear!

Apricity Thu 11-Oct-18 11:11:49

It's all in the context. As an old saying goes, an inch is a lot on the end of a nose. And how often have I prattled on about good things coming in small packages! Says she who is all of a rapidly diminishing 5' 1". And now the term "Little Granny" has entered the rapidly growing grandchildren's lexicon. Sigh!!!!

diddy Thu 11-Oct-18 11:04:56

Me too

marpau Thu 11-Oct-18 11:00:51

I could have written your post Petunia every word of it refers to me

GrannyGravy13 Thu 11-Oct-18 10:46:21

I am only 5'2" size 10/8 bottoms, but with 32H bust, I would like to transfer some "bust inches" to my height please.
