Well, I still have a head but the tooth is destined to leave me. We discussed options and as it’s a wisdom tooth - who would have thought I had one? - the sensible approach seemed to be to replace the filling knowing it won’t last forever To make me comfortable again. I’ve a checkup appointment in a month and if I agree the dentist will refer to the dental hospital for the procedure. Earlier should the filling fail. Seems OK for now .

Agree greyd tinnitus can be a right Royal pain. Had it for years, sort of part of life, it’s really common isn’t it? The one sided bells are new though, wonder what next?

Sounds as if much patience will be needed for your sanitary ware, not that it should be needed .

Your post reminded me of a friend doodle with a very similar experience, they both relaxed a lot once the decision and transition were made. The SW sounds sensible ann, hope something can be sorted for respite in the short term.

M&S sounds good for tea panache, have a well deserved rest. Good if sad to be warned Fecchi’s won’t be waiting for us at our next visit, change isn’t necessarily progress I fear.

Doodle I think that is one of the most encouraging and sensible posts aimed at our dear Ann in a while.nothing like talking from experience, and I think reading the fact that when there are is none of the sheer hard slog and harrassment of caring for a loved one ......leaving you like a dried up,totally worn out old prune.......it makes such sense leaving all that in the hands of the professionals, whilst then giving you both time together to simply spend..... in which ever way you choose.Quality time is so important.

Although things are not yet going according to plan Ann I can see there is a plan and it is just starting to come to light...........so hold on just yet .Easier said than done I can guess.

What a great bit of luck Corner nothing beats having that unexpected call, so the dastardly deed can... and hopefully ...is over before nerves or anything unpleasant creeps up!Sending you a hug just in case!

Well done Charley all though it sounds very much as early days and you need to take things cautiously,but once you start eating, the signs are you are on the mend.These bugs or whatever do take extra time to heal as we get older but it seems you are slowly getting there.

ann. The time will come as you say. Like you my SIL kept going looking after my dear brother until she nearly wore herself into the ground. She didn't want to 'give in' and let him go into a home but in the end it became the only option. I did wonder on occasions if she was safe in the house with him (he was a most gentle man but was starting to lash out at things he couldn't understand) . My dear SIL was distraught when he finally went into a home but it did make a considerable difference to both their lives. They spent many happy hours together in his room or in the lounge and garden. They went to the local pub on a couple of occasions with other people from the home. Went on organised trips together. They had many peaceful and happy times together in the care home. I will not say for one minute that there were not some sad times but it did mean that the last few years of his life were far more pleasant for them both than they would have been had he continued to live at home (which he couldn't without an army of support workers which as you know are not available). I do hope you get some daycare organised soon but please think of yourself and do not feel guilty when the time comes to say enough.

If there was a big house, morethan no doubt we would be in the servants quarters! Or more likely, mucking out the stables! No, just a bog standard twenty year old house on land that was farmland, so possibly with pre existing orchards, some of which trees could have been incorporated into the landscaping. Lots of lovely free apples! As for advice on couldn’t care less, things have just moved from bad to worse on the plumbing front, so I am just trying to stay out of the way!

Ann sounds like two steps forward and three steps back once again. I’m so sorry to hear that little or no progress appears to have been made ?.

Jud lots of sympathy for your poor DH. Mine had one repaired a couple of years ago and he was very very sore and moving gingerly for a couple of weeks. Getting up and down the stairs was an awful trial, but he wouldn’t sleep downstairs. All will be well, though, and himself will be bouncing around with Georgie in no time!

I hope the dentist visit went well, Corner and that you’re now more comfortable. As for the tinnitus, there are days when I can’t ‘tune mine out’ and they are getting more frequent. Nothing to do but bear it stoically, eh?

The remaining kit for our loo is not coming today, as promised, or tommorrow or possibly not until the middle of next week. There is now ‘a five day backlog in the warehouse’! Our plumber has another job to go to on Saturday, and so I have no idea when we will get him again. I have calmed DH down with tea and an Eccles cake, though I suspect something stronger would have had more effect. ☹️. Never mind. We will see our grandson tommorrow and that will put him right! He’s like a breath of fresh air!

The SW has just gone, at least she turned up.
The carer didn't come this morning, the manager rang to say she had "gone off" whether in a huff or with a bang she didn't say.
She said she would come herself later, I told her not to bother, I had already had an hour of, when is the girl coming and what does she do when she comes, I could not cope with any more.
Then carecall rang, they were double booked, could they come tomorrow, no way, that is my respite day so they are coming on Friday.

The SW confirmed that the daycare ends next week, she has sent a complaint to the QCC as they havent told any of the sevice users yet.
She brought details of 4 homes which do day care, the nearest is £100 ad6ay with one meal, the others range from £45 + meals to £60 a day with 3 meals, but they are all some distance ie 30 mins in a taxi, 4 journeys, quite expensive.
I now pay £80 including transport.
After being here for 30/40 mins she agrees full time care is inevitable before long.
I felt relieved but scared about that prospect.

Good gracious! Such a lot of posts since my last visit. No way can I address them all, except to say that there seem to be a lot of problems with DHs at the moment. To all with poorly other halves, my sympathies. My own DH just had surgery to repair a hernia and is feeling wobbly and sore. Lots of TLC required from us all at present. I'll pop in from time to time to check up on everyone's progress.

Oh yes, and a big welcome to Maddy. Kindness and warmth in abundance here!

Harrigran heaven help your OH if he has the same bug that I picked up somewhere. I have never felt so ill in my entire life and I did find it difficult living on my own with the responsibility of feeding Tara.

Panache DH and I read that recently and were very saddened. We couldn’t take our children shopping without a cry of “Please can we go to Fecci’s?”, and we took our grandson, too, many years later! It is the shape of things though I’m afraid. I hate moving with the times. I’m glad to see you here and you seem to be in good spirits ??!

Welcome Maddie; I hope we will see a lot of you here. It does get a bit hectic at times but it keeps you on your toes!
Callgirl your tribulations with the stairs at the theatre reminded me of when they reopened the refurbished Lyceum Theatre here. The public were invited to roam around at an open day. DH and I went up into the “God’s” and I don’t think I’ve ever climbed so many steps. I was younger and fitter then but by the time we got up there (trying not to look over the edge!!) we were pooped! So you have my sympathy. We’ve been many times since, but always had slightly less taxing seats!
Lovely photos nannytopsy and N&G! I went out on a bit of a photo forage today, taking snaps of the crab apple trees on our estate that are currently laden with fruit. Apart from anything else, they are very pretty, especially the red ones. The birds will not go short this winter! I asked for some advice about crab apples on the gardening forum and am now proposing to try and make some crab apple jelly once I have foraged my share! Autumn is upon us!

DH is on the warpath with the plumbing shop again. We seem to live in a land of broken promises and limbo and it is driving him bonkers. Me? I couldn’t care less any more. It will get done sometime, even if we have to get a different plumber in! We can use the loo - we’ll just wash our hands somewhere else! Apart from not having a sink, it all looks lovely! I am going to go now - it is getting very foggy with all the steam coming out of his ears!

corner I am pleased to hear that you will get the tooth sorted once and for all today. Cancellations are a boon at times. Sorry to hear about the tinnitus- I did not realise that you suffered from that.

Charleygirl I think DH has what you have described, I have never seen him so ill in all the 55 years I have known him. We thought it was the flu vaccine because the symptoms were like mild flu but now he is unable to get out of bed and is unable to eat. The only thing he can manage is sips of water and even that goes straight through him. Five full days he has been poorly.

Corner I hope you get sorted. I have an appointment the morning after our return to “sort out that bite”. Hope all the hospital visits have gone well today and that Soop enjoyed a good lunch.

Hope he sorts it corner toothache is so miserable.
What a bummer about the tinnitus, is it loud enough to drown the noise of the drill if the dentist uses it?

Quick visit. Dental receptionist has just phoned, there’s a cancellation so off I go today rather than tomorrow. A good thing - I think . I’ll have something to listen to at least, new tinnitus noise arrived this morning, it sounds like bells ringing, isn’t life interesting .

Willow I agree, it definitely was not food poisoning because dizziness is not one of the symptoms. This is the start of the second week- I am definitely better, able to eat food, mostly food I had frozen and reheated. I am grateful for the odd times I have batch cooked.

I got dressed today, the first time for a week and drove to a local cafe where I met with 3 other GNs for coffee. As usual it was extremely pleasant. I needed little, only bread and then home. The dizziness is still there but I am not grabbing hold of furniture as I was yesterday.

I am weaning Tara off the wet food and she is less than impressed. I have no more so please keep your windows closed, she has a healthy pair of lungs.

It has not rained for a few hours but it is miserable here. I must find a warmer cardigan.

Just thought I'd share a humorous side to our current family problem. DGS2 is still refusing to communicate with anyone except older brother but DD3 is refusing to back down and keeps 'popping in' to McD's where he has a part-time job (Her children think this is wonderful!) Last night she decided to go a step further and follow him after he'd finished his shift, on the basis that he was less likely to recognise her car than his mother's. However he might recognise her so she disguised herself - face veil and scarf - though we are not Muslim- and went off at 10pm. His car wasn't in car park and it wasn't his day

Lovely to see your posts Panache – once again thinking of everyone else whilst going through all the to-ing and fro-ing back and forth to hospital – thank goodness you have the ‘bonus’ of the dishy registrar to distract you a little while you’re there! Isn’t it always the case that when you finally decide to just let these things take their course you get two interested parties looking at your house – I hope something comes of it although don’t envy the possibility of packing up and moving home!

Welcome Maddy – I found this warm place at the beginning of this thread but had missed the friendliness and close bonds from the previous one – it’s a wonderful atmosphere in here and there’s always something good to eat too I hope you have a lovely day with your mum – 91 is a wonderful age! I miss my mum – we used to go shopping together regularly when she was fit and able.

Charley my friend has had the same illness you’ve just got over – I think you may have had a virus rather than food poisoning as the symptoms seem the same – she’s a week on and still very tired and not eating yet. Hope you are better now.

N&G is Master Jackson coming for half term? I bet you get all the things on his birthday list – we do love to spoil them when we can! My granddaughter and her partner are coming this weekend on their way to the Lakes – we’re looking forward to seeing them but of course we’ll be worrying about them driving here and then worrying about them driving there – we can track them but sometimes that seems worse than not knowing!

Callgirl I know the sort of fight you’re having with Mia – Daph’s antics of sitting on the desk and not allowing me to use the mouse or keyboard are all a cunning plan to get me away from the desk so she can pinch my chair. And they say animals have no sense!! How wonderful for you to have seen Phantom – I’ve always wanted to go. My cousin saw the opening shows with Michael Crawford way back in the day and said it was amazing! What great news about catching the attacker but very scary.

I would be banning Smokie from outside for life – or taking him out on a harness and lead I have actually threatened to do this with Alfie at the bungalow as my husband is adamant he can go out when we’re there (after an initial getting to know the place time) but I know it’s only a garden away from a very busy road and I’m just as adamant he’s not going out at all! We’ll see who wins!

Morethan how funny are little ones - you sometimes wonder where they get their ideas from and then realise it all makes perfect sense in their heads Your DiL is just incredible - long may she continue hair or no hair!

I have now finished painting the picture frame Daph decided to sit in but now have to figure out how to put the picture back in it – I can’t use my dear dad’s method of sewing pins to hold it in I did mention it to Mr W last night but he couldn’t seem to understand what I was trying to do and told me to just get on with it. A visit to the Range (other stores are available) is called for to buy the necessary items I think. The sun is shining this morning and I’ve done all the jobs so I’d best get on with it. I’m sure the frame actually used to be white before Dad tried his DIY skills on it so Mum would have approved of the renovation – when I’ve done it!

Thank you NanaandGrampy, I’m just enjoying a morning coffee, after which I will collect my elderly mother and take her out for lunch, and to buy some new shoes for her birthday. She’ll be 91 and has recently moved to live very near to us in a sheltered apartment.

What a wonderful treat Callgirl but all those stairs and lack of leg room are the things that stop me going into London these days. Which is a shame because some of the shows I saw in the past were wonderful.
