Gransnetters, check out this advertisement.
It is Brilliant, and for all of you that have Grandchildren in School plays, you will love it even more.
I am still laughing my head off as it is so clever.
??.
Well done John Lewis.

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't get it.

As a final scene in a feelgood film it would be great but what exactly were they advertising?

BBbevan Wed 05-Sept-18 16:09:25

Loved it, but where was Mr. Poppy?

Maggiemaybe Wed 05-Sept-18 16:32:20

Yes, I enjoyed this. smile Perhaps they should have saved it for Christmas though - like so many others, I always fast forward through the ads at any other time of year, so I only saw it because of this thread.

I thought it was terrific, and no one needs to "get it" because the thing is, it has got a lot of people talking about John Lewis and Waitrose ... surely that's the name of the game? The advert brings the brand to the forefront of people's minds. Job done!

Has it?

There’s no doubt it’s very entertaining but it must have cost a fortune. I’d much rather Waitrose reinstated the free coffee in their cafes, that would cost a fraction of this advert!

Alypoole Wed 05-Sept-18 21:00:43

I loved it too!

Willow500 Wed 05-Sept-18 21:43:25

Think it's very funny - reminded me of the film Rock School. No idea what it's meant to represent but still love it.

I just loved it for the advertisement that it was. I am now wondering what their Christmas advertisement will be? How can they top this I wonder?

Jane10 Thu 06-Sept-18 06:44:15

1974Cookie - that was it!

mokryna Thu 06-Sept-18 08:11:12

September 5, 1946 Freddie Mercury's birthday. It is a superb way of celebrating it.
I appreciate how small the advert was at the end (had to wait for the second showing) Thank you

callgirl1 Thu 06-Sept-18 22:41:25

Loved it!

Jane10.
I don't think so somehow.
They always pull out a showstopper of a Christmas advert much nearer the time.
I reckon that a Christmas one is in the making.
Sorry if I sound sad, but I am so looking forward to it.

Jane10 Fri 07-Sept-18 19:28:35

Why bother making this expensive one now?
It's, after all, all about money!!

BlueBelle Fri 07-Sept-18 19:31:54

Well it hasn’t got me talking Sparkle I didn’t understand it and still don’t see what the relevance of kids, Martians and frantic spaceships soaring through the theatre crowd could possible mean What message is it portraying except what is the maker taking, is he or she is on something its so random
I really did think I must be the only one until I spoke to my best friend today and asked her what she thought and held my breath and she said ‘ Load of old rubbish what is it meant to be about’ Phew now I love her even more
Mind you I love Queens Bohenian Rhapsody

Jane10 Fri 07-Sept-18 20:20:53

You're not alone BlueBelle! I'll be fast forwarding if it ever comes on during something I'm watching.

Anniebach Fri 07-Sept-18 20:22:15

I didn’t see it untill today, no idea what it was about , didn’t like it

Melanieeastanglia Fri 07-Sept-18 23:09:04

I saw it the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, not sure how I'll feel after I've seen it several times. I often find that I get bored seeing the same adverts, especially if they're quite long.

MissAdventure Fri 07-Sept-18 23:23:31

I expect they're making this extravaganza so that everyone will be waiting with bated breath for the Christmas one.

BlueBelle Sat 08-Sept-18 02:46:06

Perhaps one of the lovers could explain the gist of it to me?
I now realise ( through this thread) its promoting a merger but what has a child’s concert, bohemian rhapsody, Martians, spaceships, and things flying round the audience etc got in common and what have they to do with a ‘partnership’ and what are the bits that made you ‘laugh out loud’? Lastly why would seeing that make me think of Waitrose or John Lewis

It seems so random and frantic I think the maker had just been on a LSD trip

ginny Sat 08-Sept-18 07:39:21

I’m with Blubelle and coming.
Very clever and if it was an actual school production it would be brilliant !
Unless told I probably wouldn’t have read at the end who was advertising.

M0nica Sat 08-Sept-18 08:02:51

Turned it off before it was over. It made my skin crawl.

Anniebach Sat 08-Sept-18 08:24:12

I was so disappointed, couldn’t connect Martians, spaceships etc with a chain store.

KatyK Sat 08-Sept-18 09:47:33

I didn't get it either and it seems to be on in every advert break now, so it's getting on my nerves.

Sparklefizz Sat 08-Sept-18 11:49:02

Well, it has got 49 people talking about it on here, and if you multiply that over the Internet, it seems to have been pretty successful.

3 of these posts are from you, BlueBelle even though you say above Well it hasn’t got me talking Sparkle

If an ad gets people talking about it, even negatively, it's spreading the brand and getting attention. Doesn't matter if it shows Martians or spaceships .... a large group of small children all taking part and thoroughly enjoying themselves, watched by proud parents .... what's not to like?

A previous JL Christmas ad showed a bear in a cave waking up from its hibernation - no one said what have bears got to do with Christmas and John Lewis?
