I have a granddaughter Isabella Emily Alice (Issy to us) and another Amelia Helena Grace known to us all as Millie. A grandson Sebastian and two others are Seamus and Oscar whilst the eldest grandson is Caven Joseph Edward.

My brothers were Cornelius and Jordan and although I was. Patricia at school I’m known to my family as Breda.

I have a colleague who has two small granddaughters Violet and Ivy.

I love the name Cornelius Breda, it was my great, great grandfather's name, but none of my children could be persuaded to consider it for their boys - even as a second name.

I agree it is a lovely name (and it is a family name) Grannyactivist. It was my maternal grandfathers name and Jordan was the name of my paternal grandfather. When we have done a bit of digging around we have found that both names go back through many generations. So good to see the continuum.

I was born in 1944 and my name has only been mentioned once on here.
I was at school in the 1950s and all those names previously mentioned of that period I was familiar with.I remember four Carols in my class who were all born around Christmas time there were two Christines who also had Christmas birthdays.
There were two girls called Margaret Rose named after Princess Margaret, a Vivianne after Vivianne Leigh and also a few Sylvias and a Cynthia

I had 5 aunts ,two were my mothers sisters the other her brothers wives three of the five were called Jean.The others were Mary after Gran and Rose after great gran.I dont think I've met a jean under 60

I have 3 GD's Isobella, Poppy, and Lottie. I also love the name Grace.

I left school in 67, and there were lots of Lindas, Christines, and Jeans in my year. You don't hear of any of those names for little ones now.

Personally I don't like a lot of what I think of as 'whiskery old great aunt' names, I.e. the great aunts I knew as a child - Mabel, Edith, etc. Younger parents will not have those connotations. As for the likes of the once fashionable Gertrude and Ethel, I hope they never make a comeback!

My folks gave us all what they considered classic, non-dating names, and they haven't dated. My mother's name was fashionable when she was born in 1918 - it was dated for decades before she died, she always hated it and vowed not to give us anything similar!

I am 65 and have an unusual French name which nobody had when I was in school in the 50's and 60's . I have always shortened it because nobody pronounces it right and that annoys me, it is heard a bit more often now but still not common. My. Granddaughters have names that are lovely but everyone calls them by a shortened version and although living in England our side of the family is Welsh so they have Welsh second names which are very traditional in Wales.

My daughters friend called her second child Reggie, my FILs name was Reginald. My MILs name was Lynda but I have a friend a bit younger than me who is also a Lynda with the Y spelling. I have friends called Patricia, Christine, Susan, Lynda, Kim, Cheryl, Alison, Nikki(Nicola), Catherine, Margaret, Gloria, Lyndsey, Ann, Gillian,. Not many of them are used by today's mums .

Pamela & Nigel have yet to make a comeback ..as far as I am aware!

Stanley, Arthur and Bill are 3 little boys I come across locally Edie and Mabel are contemporaries of my DGC too.
