I know no-one wants to think about this in the height of Summer but already I am beginning to dread it. We haven't spent a Christmas Day with both our adult children for 10 years ! Is it unreasonable to ask for this? Although to see them Boxing Day is OK I would dearly love to have the big day with them both and share some of the happy times we used to have. I have always been understanding about other commitments to in law families and have told them from being teenagers that I knew we could not always be together. I have even invited one set of inlaws to spend a previous Christmas with us so there would be no problems for them . However just for once I would like my DC and DGC just to ourselves. AIBU?

Find another date to have a special 'family time', then you and OH can have a lovely quiet Christmas or perhaps go on a cruise to somewhere warm.

For the rest, I truly dont get it. The spending, the landfill, the fake sentimentality.

Then the hangover and everybody is back to normal on the 27th.

Not raining on a parade?

My lovely ĐD has fone Christmas at her house for the last 4 years, the largest number was eight adults and seven children. We all live reasonably close so we all drive there and cab home! She does a fantastic job, however this year she and her family are going to stay with her best friend in Australia. I will therefore do Christmas for DHs daughter and family, hopefully his DS and DGS and my DS. As we only have a small house we can only accommodate his DS and DGS. His daughter and famil can stay in a nearby hotel. I hope I can remember how to do it all!
