I had an admirer who I didn’t fancy, so eventually he transferred his desires to my friend and bought her Matt Monroe singing “Portrait of my Love”. I never liked the song so was glad she got it and not me.

This song always reminds me of the early days when my girlfriend and I used to go out to a dance at the local public hall. (We just celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary)

So many happy memories, but this was one of the soundtracks to our lives back in 1967.

The summer of 1975 was beautiful, I was 18 years old and had just started going to a local club with a friend and it was played endlessly. When I hear it, I can be 18 again, just for those few minutes.

Going past Winchester today I found myself hearing ‘Winchester Cathedral, you’re bringing me down’ playing in my head, in that funny voice that sounded like it was being sung through a loo roll.This happens every time I pass the Winchester turn off. Help!

My daughters are so jealous that we were at the right age in the sixties. DH and I lived in the U.S. for 2 or 3 years and went to Haight Ashbury. I used to play lots of my favourite songs at home when they were young and they grew up loving the Beatles and Stones, and many more. Music is so evocative and brings back many happy memories.

I sing in a ‘singing fir fun group’ every Monday morning at our local library and we sing all those sorts of songs, amazing how many slightly older folk start to sing along as they come into the building. The wee kids love to hear us ‘oldies’ singing along, we follow their ‘two little ducks’ nursey rhyme session for mother’s and toddlers and yesterday I saw a mother dancing with a young lad, he would have been about eight, such a joy.

I love 'All You Need is Love' by the Beatles. It takes me back to around the age of 9 or 10. A fairy happy childhood with the usual ups and downs and so innocent.

Occasionally I've heard something similar,,that I probably haven't heard since my early teens. And I do find it amazing that something could be buried in my memory for so many decades, and yet once it's back I can remember every word and every note.

Rod Stewart's "Maggie Mae" conjures up the heady summer when we had finished A levels and just spent afternoons and evenings at each others' houses, partying.

I find the songs of the 60s by people like the Tremeloes, Herman's Hermits and so on, quite embarrassing nowadays, particularly as I can still sing all the words! They were so corny! However, these type of songs are incredibly popular in Germany and tribute bands are always touring and enjoying large audiences.

A girl in my class claimed that Andy Fairweather Lowe was her cousin. I'm not sure to this day if it's true.

From 1963 to 1970 I was girlfriend, then fiancee, then wife to a drummer in a 'beat group'. They were never famous and as they all had good daytime jobs, never sought to become full time musicians. However, they played all over Scotland and sometimes in the North of England as support band to loads of the famous groups mentioned above. Until 1970 (when our 1st baby was born) I was usually able to go with them as a Groupie and Roadie, so I met and danced to many of the big names. Wasn't I the lucky one?

With the arrival of our Babies and the same situation for the others in the band, they converted to a resident hotel band, but there again they backed lots of 'names' on the cabaret circuit. Sadly I did not meet many of them as I was by then a 'band widow' stuck at home while he went 'out to play'.
