It’s true BlueBell that you do need an active imagination for The Argy ( in fact, an over active one is even better.)

I really love GN but is it just me,that sometimes finds it a bit cliquey?

Cheers!
farview I suppose I consider myself a newbie but have actually been on GN for a couple of years. I have not found any cliques but I think people who give out something of their real lives do connect better with others who also open up. I am a very private person, I give little away about m yself but that does not mean that I don't care about others. Some people have touched my heart with their troubles or bereavements and my responses have always bee genuine. It stands to reason that those who tell more personal details will reveal a character that attracts others to them. I flit around in the kitchen and (after buying my fishnet tights and downing a pint of poteen) the Argy Bargy. I have always felt welcome on both ( well some of the characters in the Argy really ?) I frequently don't get replies to my posts but I accept that because people respond more to people they understand. People who let others in to their personal lives are bound to have a more personal response than those who keep their lives more private. You will be welcomed in the kitchen and Argy if you pop in.
I think I have an over-active imagination and, believe me, it's not always a good thing!
Good post Doodle and I am somewhat the same.
Quite late on this thread. I do not think GN is cliquey, but I do think you get clusters of people with common interests and therefore all tend to respond to the same threads on particular subjects and within these threads we get to know each other I could real off half a dozen names that appear regularly on threads I respond to. Political threads are the most obvious example of this.
I also think all of us find at times we post what we consider a deeply considered response on a thread and the thread just flows over us as if we hadn't posted at all. But then why should anyone respond to what we contribute if they don't rate it? It is a bit disconcerting the first few times but I can assure you, you get used to it.
I dont "get" the virtual bar/party/cafe things. Actually, they make me incredibly sad and longing for the real thing
oldbatty; Oh dear! It makes me sad to think that you're sad, but there's nothing to stop you having both.
I thoroughly enjoyed my virtual party recently and everyone was terrific bringing virtual presents and good wishes. I can turn on a vivid imagination when the opportunity arises and as a bonus, the virtual hangover didn't hurt a bit next morning!

I love Gransnet and like many others have been here since the start . I have never changed my name either !
I spend most of my time alone at work waiting for the phone to ring or a delivery (DH and I run our own Engineering business) and it gets very lonely. I don’t know what I would do without Gransnet. Probably go even more bonkers than I already am.
Just keep joining in Farview you will be made very welcome.
I am another who loves Gransnet, mostly. I joined a little while ago and have had some lovely responses to posts, at other times I belong to the 'killed them dead' group. I wasn't going to bother reading this thread at all, but I am so glad I did, it's not what I expected to find at all. There have been many times when helpful advice has been given and I have been glad to squirrell it away for future pondering. The thread did make me laugh just now when reading the comments made on Sunday, around 1pm, lunchtime, it was a perfect case of either being in the know, or out, going from comments, to a bit of silliness. Now I shall be called to task because this could be construed as a threadabout a thread. Oh well, I enjoy GN, Farview we hope you do too. Stay with it, we all get our down moments, but someone, somewhere will pick up on it and send some flowers or a virtual hug. (See now, I could have killed off this chat by taking too long to write). Ah well that's life.
I depend on Gransnet, no family here now, don’t leave the house, it’s the only company I have. No Gransnet and I would only have rolling news for hours , not a cheery thought. Such lovely people here x
GN has been a lifeline for me at times.
I do post too much about my personal life but if I don't" get It all out " on here, I would go mad .
My life is generally very lonely, living with an H who cannot have a conversation about anything but his own needs or concerns.
Just stay with us Farview we are worth the effort.
Anniebach and annsixty - thanks for your open and honest comments about what gransnet means to you. I hope farview catches up with her thread once she has the opportunity. Thanks for starting the thread farview, its one of those gransnet goodies
Iam, I have said , last November Grans saved my life, no dramatics, I was in the most darkest place, I posted and the care and support here saved my life. I thank God I turned to Gransnet that day.
Am reminded of a great aunt who believed - if the Lord doesn’t come, he sends ?
Lovely post, Annie ?
Also
and {{{hugs}}} for you Annie. I see you on the Good morning thread, but if not, I do wonder where and how you are. God bless.
Thank you x. I just want to say I always thought I could handle what life brought my way , struggled at times but got through. I was wrong, last November I wanted to reach for a large dose of paracetamol, I reached out here instead.
To anyone in a dark place please don’t fear opening up, reach out here , I certaintly opened up ! The support, kindness and yes love was in abundance . You are not alone on Gransnet , that’s it, please reach out x
And when others have reached out, you've been one of the first to offer your support and a shoulder to lean on Annie; proving that what goes around, comes around.
Anniebach ??? thank you for making me feel welcome here ???
No,GN members are never alone, I'm glad I started this thread... because I now feel more of a sense of belonging..and it's easier sometimes to be angry, sad, upset, unable to cope,etc..with a beautiful group of friends who are there 24/7 at the touch of a keypad than it is to sit and face someone, yes I have got a whole lot going on at the moment..as lots of us do sometimes..so knowing you are all here, alongside me..is a warm feeling! Thank you ALL for your posts..
For you Farview
and one of these too
Fennel, would love to hear about French village life and Panache, I am West Country, in Dorset, not sure where you are. What a lovely thread. Thankyou Farview .
Farveiw
I love My Gransnet ?
It is all mine!
It can make me laugh,
or cry.
It is interesting and informative.
It has taught me sooo much.
I now know how to microwave a Swede
and bake bread in a slow cooker.
And I received very good advice on the style site re what to wear to my sisters special Birthday!
*Long live GN*
I'm not sure you can have cliques in virtual space but I certainly don't feel there are any in GN - just lots of support, interesting topics and funny comments. I hope you are feeling a bit better today farview - please continue to post as there is always someone on here who understands, has been there or just wants to send a hug. I think there are always posts that don't seem to get many responses or you post something in a thread and it dies but I'm sure that's not personal at all. I'd far rather post something on here and have it ignored than on FB which no one responds to by people who know me - that happens to me all the time so I must be BNM in real life
Hillwalker - well start a thread about village life and I'm sure you'll get replies, from UK and elsewhere.
I had to look that up Willow500!
It happens to us all sometimes.
Now I think 'Well, that went down like a lead balloon Jalima!
I got very hurt in the past when I dared to express views on the politics threads and was called 'silly' or 'stupid' or, in fact, if I agreed with a poster about something, of being 'part of a clique'.
But I think that happens less nowadays.
Some threads are some aren't IMO.
