Melting, does the chemist have contact details (for prescriptions, etc)? If so and they recognised you, they could have passed your info on to advertisers or wherever. If you then used a tesco loyalty card, that info was already there.

30 minutes ago Mil phoned DH to say her bedroom TV might be broken could he look at it tomorrow. Now adverts for bedroom TV'S are being shown on my newsreels. Spooky because she phoned when he was taking the dog for his walk.

Definitely some way of tracking what we're doing or looking at - it happens all the time to us.

I have been browsing the different airline for cheap return flights only to Las Vegas this coming October and during this past month every time I come on GN I get pop ups advertising flights,this morning it has happened twice already.

It's when an advert pops up on your computer and all you've ever done is thought about the product ..... spooky eh?

I don't think it is a coincidence that we receive adverts for products, big brother really is watching. DH did a supermarket shop and then he received money off adverts for a product he had looked at but not bought. We were sitting in the study with our respective computers switched on when he was telling me about it, lo and behold up pops an advert for the product on my computer.

No seacliff. It's an independent pharamacy and I paid cash. I can only assume it was just a fantastic coincidence else paranoia creeps in and one starts to wonder if stores have installed bag tracking tech!

Which makes me laugh in a way. Any tech trying to analyse the content of my (hand)bag for example (and those of many other women I imagine) would crash immediately confused by all the stuff that lurks in there. Six lipsticks, a leaky pen, old train tickets, twopence, something that could be Ibuprofen or a peppermint, a pine cone, the spectacle cleaning cloth that's been missing for months, a plastic bag of dried-up wet wipes.

I've experienced the things other posters have mentioned. I closed my FB account because (amongst other reasons) I was tired or them tracking my browser history. One brief visit to a retailer site resulted in persistent FB ads for the same company.

That is spooky about the Tescos vouchers. I'd love to know how it happened. Did you use a loyalty card at the chemist?

I get that ad too marydoll, but then I have been on their clarks outlet site. Sadly I didn't get the 20% off code. The outlet never has anything I want on my size, too common, size 7.

An advert for Clarks outlet keeps appearing when I'm on GN.
The other day a promo code popped up for 20% discount, but I didn't write it down.
I searched high and low on the internet yesterday, as I was buying shoes, but couldn't find the code anywhere.
The minute I paid for the shoes, the code appeared! ?

Just turn off your location setting.

They are unlikely to have been watching CCTV. More likely to be through something like use of a Nectar card or something like that that registers what you buy onto a common database.

That is why I do not have a Nectar card or anything similar.

This thread immediately sprang to mind when I noticed a clothes advert on my screen a moment ago. I rarely go shopping for clothes, less often still for dresses, but the ad was for the type of dresses that I was looking at in a shop this morning!

Coincidence? I doubt it. I really might start turning my phone off in the future when I am out and about to stop this sort of cyber stalking!

SueDonim There's a lot of covert advertising goes on on Facebook for example, tiny split second ads that sit behind other things on your newsfeed. I wonder if FB works in such a way that if the covert one doesn't to be working i.e they can't track a visit to that retailer's site, they weigh in with more obvious advertising.

More than once I've been chatting to dh then gone onto my iPad, only to find adverts for whatever was the topic of conversation!

Once, it was adverts exhorting me to buy a Porsche car. That's very unlikely to ever happen, unless I win the lottery, which I don't do!

I recently bought a new phone but the old one is still charged up and left at home. Twice I've come home from shopping and found a message (on my old phone) asking me to rate the store I've just visited. I could understand if the message was on my new phone, but not on the old one. Do they talk to each other?
