My mum remembered kids running around barefoot, never owned a pair of shoes.
My mum remembered the lamplighter with his ladder lighting the street lights.
I remember the rag and bone man with his horse and cart, calling out "Old iron, lumber, rag BONE!
I remember the park keeper locking the gates and shouting at us kids to 'clear orf!'
When your grandchildren reach our age, what will they remember?

No Gradma 70s I never had breadand dripping, and we had an indoor toilet and bath. I dont remember gas lamps either. But the house did not belong to us -it came with the job. However I do remember freezing bedrooms, frosty patterns on thd windows and getting dressed in front of the fire in the one warm room. I never ever wore trousers or tights (till I was in my late teens. I climbed trees in the summer and went sledging in winter always in skirts and unsupervised.
