Those royals wasting money again

Sorry to those royal worshipers but Eddie has apparently just paid (well technically he paid nothing) £37,000 to fly 130 mile in a private jet from Poole to Tamworth when the train would have cost a mere fraction (first class of course) .

I know his time is more precious than most other people’s time, okay so he’s got a wife and family to get home to and an elderly mum needing his care...... but really ?

gillybob Thu 14-Jun-18 08:42:20

You could say that Sodapop grin

maryeliza54 Thu 14-Jun-18 08:48:13

gilly the Palce sent instructions? How on earth could any sentient being defend that? How can anyone defend bowing and curtseying in any circumstances? If someone is introduced to a royal, then normal handshake rules should apply.

gillybob almost did throw up!

Yes they were having a meeting to discuss Charlie’s visit and the guy in charge said....... we have had instructions from the palace on how we are to behave if we meet Charlie ( well maybe he didn’t say Charlie ) he said ladies are to put one foot in front of the other and bend down etc. Men are to bow . I really wanted one of them to stand up, shove their chair back and say “stuff you mate” but of course they didn’t.

gillybob Thu 14-Jun-18 08:57:57

Oh he also added....... never extend your hand unless he extends his first . grin

This is 2018 folks....hello..... confused

Anniebach Thu 14-Jun-18 08:59:40

How strange those instructions were sent to Heathrow, some years ago it was announced no curtsying was necessary even to the queen.

annep Thu 14-Jun-18 09:02:54

I hate when people say they bring in money. The end does not always justify the means. And in this case it definitely does NOT.

paperbackbutterfly Thu 14-Jun-18 09:13:15

If I had the money I would definitely travel quickly and comfortably.

The cost of a return private jet flight from Aberdeen to Amsterdam is around £10,000, so presumably a one way flight will be well below that figure.

Poole to Tamworth (or vice versa) is a very much shorter flight - perhaps rumours of the cost aren’t necessarily anywhere near accurate?

Speculation without concrete fact seems an unnecessary waste of time and energy. Lots of better, happier, more positive things to do.

Just saying.

You won't be sent to the Tower if you choose not to bow or curtsy, it is true, but the social pressure on people to do so makes it very difficult for many people to refuse.

It's the same with children at school. If there is a royal visit they are all expected to line the pavements, waving little flags. It is very difficult for a parent to tell a child that they do not wish them to participate because they (and I am of the same opinion) feel it is a form of propagandising on behalf of the monarchical system.

gillybob Thu 14-Jun-18 09:22:35

Strange but true Annie I’m sure the episode will be available on catch up .

Anniebach Thu 14-Jun-18 09:23:13

Do you not have to be asked to do something before you can refuse ?

gillybob Thu 14-Jun-18 09:28:31

I’m not sure ? Annie it was the fact that they were “instructed” as to what they should to do that really bugs me .
I wonder if they really do forget that they are human like the rest of us.

gillybob Thu 14-Jun-18 09:30:36

The episode also saw 2 guys cleaning the septic tank of the royal toilet suite. Absolutely Gross . DH said “ perhaps if they bottled it, the royal fanatics would buy it “ shock

maryeliza54 Thu 14-Jun-18 09:32:35

katek this thread is about a lot more than the cost of the private jet. Whatever the cost it was a lot more than a chauffeur driven car. Planning their diaries properly would also be a good start as well as environmentally friendly.

Bridgeit Thu 14-Jun-18 09:33:14

Instructed = how to
Commanded = must do

maryeliza54 Thu 14-Jun-18 09:33:27

gillybob ?????

This country is not divided either for or against Royals,
I am better off than one of my friends , worse off than another, some of my friends were lucky in inheriting money property, some used it wisely, some squandered it ,some did good for others & charities, some couldn’t give a toss, some of us live in a well of country & like to contribute to those in poor countries, some can’t be assed to help anyone as long as they are alright . The worlds is a very unfair corrupt cruel divided place, but if each of us do a little bit according to all the above we will each have helped someone else, everything is relevant, there is only one answer get rid of the lot of us & start again , hey but guess what it would eventually be exactly the same. Not much different than a wild life programme.

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Jun-18 10:06:45

I read that story too it was in the Daily Mail and it definitely said tax payers were paying the cost of the trip
Yes, I expect tax payers were paying for the cost of the trip newnanny - out of the budget we allow to HM to run the whole business of the office of the Head of State.
If it was in the DM then it must be true anyway.

Bridgeit - what a brilliant storyline for a book - you could write it and perhaps set it on a farm where the animals get rid of the farmer and take over, then ......

Oops, someone did that already I think, was it George Orwell?

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Jun-18 10:09:47

Prince Charles came to plant a tree where I worked many years ago and no-one was instructed to bow or curtesy (and I don't think anyone would have or in fact did).

What a load of tosh - perhaps if one is being knighted by HM one may bob a thank you (knees permitting) but I don't believe the Heathrow story either.

And as for school children being 'instructed' to wave flags - this is not a totalitarian state, they can if they wish or not as they (or their parents) wish.

grin

Jalima1108 Thu 14-Jun-18 10:13:10

The episode also saw 2 guys cleaning the septic tank of the royal toilet suite. Absolutely Gross
It's not a nice job but someone has to do it - and lots of people have septic tanks.

As for bottling it - that must be what they spread on the fields around here.

gillybob Thu 14-Jun-18 10:15:31

Maybe you should watch the episode Jalima I checked and it is available on catch up. Not sure why you don’t believe me? I don’t tell lies. Why not watch for yourself.

ITV last night.

Bridgeit Thu 14-Jun-18 10:16:24

?Ohhps yes I think you could be right Jalima. I was on a bit of rant there. My next thought was that we shouldn’t even have computers to discuss how terrible life is for others, we should sell them all & give away the proceeds, but that won’t work either , I once was told that if each of us do our bit how ever small it will have a ripple effect like throwing a peeble in a pond. I still try to beleive that.

gillybob Thu 14-Jun-18 10:19:34

Series 4, episode 6 .
