Queuing on the quayside at Ouistreham today, waiting to board the ferry, DH and I were commenting on the size of the cars in the queue with us.
We drive an ancient SAAB estate, a big car in its day, but next to us was a newish Mini Countryman and it was at least as big as our car, if not larger. A mini bigger than an estate car
.
Looking further up the queue we could see an oldish Jaguar, again a big car in its day, but it too was dwarfed by the huge cars around them, mainly huge 4 x 4s, with just two people in them, who would only ever drive them on tarmac public roads where their rugged off road facilities would never be used.
I really do not understand this love affair with these obese vehicles. They have minimal luggage space, you need a ladder to get in. They cost a fortune to run and are no safer than any other vehicle on the road.
Is it just that fat people need fat cars?
