When I joined the Brownies I had to promise to “ do my duty to God and the King”. Yes, I’m that old. They were both equal fairytales to me so I wasn’t concerned. I wouldn't worry about swearing allegiance to the Queen now, either. It’s just words and symbolism, rather like the Americans saluting the flag or whatever they do.

I don’t feel remotely like a ‘subject’, but again I don’t let the word worry me.

It seems to be the fashion these days to make sarcastic comments and then, when disapproval is expressed, say it was intended to be an amusing little joke. It's a form of passive aggressiveness.

Ohh I so agree , that is why I think some people should be ashamed of how they present their views about the Royal Family,& who can no more help being who they are than you or I , but hey that’s ok to be rude about them behind our anonymity is it ...?

To put my comments regarding the RF into less frivolous terms,
I much prefer them to a President, they are part & Parcel of this country , the current ones do a lot of good for charities, tourism etc. If they weren’t here our lives would not be any different & I get really fed up with the spiteful comments about a family who cannot openly defend themselves & have just as much right to their lives as each & everyone of us. Those of us commenting on here are far better off than many many others, perhaps we should sell our computers stop prattling on at each other & give the proceeds to a good cause.

In effect, you're suggesting that people who think differently from you should emigrate or get off social media if they wish to express views that you find unpalatable. So much for free speech.

Sorry Feelingmyage, for having disrupted your topic, especially as you asked for it to be good natured. As you have probably gathered I too am firmly I favour of the Royal Family, & was fascinated by the programme showing what they do In Great Windsor Park for preservation etc.

I didn't think that's what Brisgeit meant at all Elothean. When people refer to Lala land they just mean someone is being a bit unrealistic. I thought it mildly amusing. And for a couple who wanted charity donations instead of wedding presents apparently she has been given over £1million pound worth of jewellery gifts alone . Now I wonder which charity will get that little haul ? Oh yes the H&M foundation .

I agree with the previous poster who said that these people live in their own little La-La land . Where one clicks ones fingers and it happens like magic, where one get the best of everything despite having never worked a day in ones life, where the best medical teams jump when one has a sniff , where teams of chefs prepare exquisite food on demand, where one jumps in a helicopter when one is running late, where nannies take care of ones bawling babies, when private islands are made available so one and ones family can take (much deserved) holidays ........

How can anyone say this is not La-La land ?
