All the politicians and in some cases their wives look funny. Harry looks like a hungover ragamuffin.
The royals look quite jolly.
The music was amazing.

Yes, Mapleleaf, you have put your finger on it. It is the feelings we have with and for those close to us rippling out to the wider world and it is what makes us human.

Mapleleaf Wed 06-Jun-18 22:43:30

It’s compassion, isn’t it MOnica? Fir example, when we see pictures on the news of terrible events and we see those people caught up in it and hear them speak. We don’t know them personally, but we can still feel for them. Likewise, happy events. We don’t have to know the people in order to feel happy for them, which in turn, makes us feel happy and uplifted, rather like oldbatty was saying.

Oops mispelt Kate, confused with my Caite!

oldbatty Wed 06-Jun-18 20:20:30

oh ok

M0nica Wed 06-Jun-18 19:19:19

I wasn't introducing this sad event to this thread as a discussion subject. There is already a thread on this subject.

I was giving it as an example of how we can have an emotional reaction to the sadness of people who don't know we exist. If we can feel for them in their grief, why not similarly in their happiness (Royal weddings, whether Caite and William or Meghan and Harry).

oldbatty Wed 06-Jun-18 16:24:14

complex and sad problem and possibly not one for discussion here.
We are all trying to do our best and keep afloat.
I like things like this chat and watching stuff and reading trashy novels. Its a distraction.
Sometimes the level of nastiness on here and MN is beyond the pale.

oldbatty Her sister has spoken today and said that they tried to get her to get help but she thought getting intreatment help would affect her image. It seems that she might have been bi-polar but it has been a long standing problem. It is very sad but she did have people trying to help.

oldbatty Wed 06-Jun-18 16:07:59

oh yes , horribly sad and pretty much incomprehensible.

M0nica Wed 06-Jun-18 08:53:51

Am I sad? I had never heard of Kate Spade until last night. But when I heard the story and saw the picture, I felt so sad that someone with so much going for her should feel life was not worth living, not even for her 13 year old daughter's sake, I feel so sorry for her daughter and her family. My heart goes out to them.

Presumably that means like oldbatty I am one of those people who "has no life" and "latches on to people who don't know she exists". In which case I am proud that I have no life and latch onto people who don't know I exist.

It is called living in a wider world and having understanding interest and compassion for all those other people in the world beyond ones own self-selected closed circle.

Paddyann in that case why watch ANYTHING on TV? Watching dramas with contrived stories, played by actors we do not know personally. Watching documentaries about subjects and countries that do not relate to us.

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 14:36:07

batty, you just shouldn’t have made reference to uTube links, I found Casablanca , Bogard saying ‘we will always have Paris’. sob

granmanat Wed 30-May-18 12:25:58

Poly580 I'm agreement about this post!!

Too much drama for me.
oldbatty enjoy what gives you little light relief.

Life is just too short to care what others think.

Anniebach Wed 30-May-18 09:57:34

Defending a poster who was the victim of a nasty verbal attack is not a witchhunt Poly

pollyperkins Wed 30-May-18 09:45:28

Of corse people can have different opinions. But theres no need to be rude or unpleasant to individuals.

maddy629 Wed 30-May-18 07:29:32

Paddyann why so nasty? Are you feeling miserable about something, whatever, there is no need to be so mean and nasty to somebody you nothing about. Apologise, please.

Poly580 Wed 30-May-18 04:29:43

I haven’t been on here or posted for a long time and I see nothing has changed. People are still being unpleasant to each other and witch hunts follow. I had high hopes for this site being a nice chat........too much of a click and too much conflict for me.

Jalima1108 Tue 29-May-18 23:17:45

There's another thread about it now annep and yes, your views would be welcome.
Everyone's views are welcome although some may come across as rude or bigoted.

Perhaps Harry was just hung over at Will's wedding!
He seemed OK at his own.

oldbatty Tue 29-May-18 22:57:51

batty is cool with it. I hated Mama Mia..........lets see how that goes[wink shock]

annep Tue 29-May-18 22:37:08

Paddy ann was a bit rude about Oldbatty. That was wrong. But saying she's narrow opinionated is wrong too. I'm not a royalist ( and I'm not going to talk about it because this post isn't about are you a royalist or republican) My views are every bit as valid as anyone elses. Having said that I think Harry was definitely not like a ragamuffin. He's quite handsome.

Anniebach Tue 29-May-18 20:56:27

Yes, I remember Sam Cam being criticised for not wearing a hat . I watched some of the marriage ceremony , got all nostalgic, we had two of the hymns at our wedding and the same gospel reading. Kate looked a little nervous , who wouldn’t, but it was so dignified , loved it.

Jalima1108 Tue 29-May-18 20:40:43

Yes, I would ask why, why, why? can't they get it right?
(Bea and Euge)

oldbatty Tue 29-May-18 20:25:02

since I am allowed fluff, I noticed some guests at Williams bash reappeared at Harrys. Mmmmm the years have not been kind!!

Also I was intrigued by SamCam, hatless with a sort of head band affair.

Dear old Bea and Eug, they gave me a chuckle.

Anniebach Tue 29-May-18 19:23:57

I must see that Jalima , I have such an empty life ?

Jalima1108 Tue 29-May-18 18:30:33

I might go and have a look and listen on YouTube.

Jalima1108 Tue 29-May-18 18:30:10

Anniebach I went to see Johnny Mathis in concert in London many years ago (a friend was a great fan).
He was very good but when it came to singing some of the numbers he had recorded as duets with female singers eg Dionne Warwick, Deniece Williams etc, I expected them to make a guest appearance.
However, he stuck a flower on another microphone and a disembodied voice came over to duet with him.

I was the woman in the fifth row trying not to giggle too loudly!
