All the politicians and in some cases their wives look funny. Harry looks like a hungover ragamuffin.
The royals look quite jolly.
The music was amazing.

A few notes of Leonard Cohen and I’m well away, smiling with a tear in my eye ...

Bathsheba - Yes!
Annie - you certainly have a life, precious and deep. Memories and reminders often lead me to musing about the past. Sometimes I see things from a different point of view.

I think we maybe flick through YouTube the way we used to flick through magazines - to relax, pass the time, distract ourselves, discover some little gem. Why not? It is free and tidy - no magazines kicking around. Harmless and enjoyable. To those who say the royals don’t care - perhaps they cannot know us as individuals (not many of us) but I do think that mostly the royals are very aware of us and their responsibilities. Obviously that is a generalisation; it would be easy to find examples to contradict that, but on the whole they recognise their obligations. If they did not then we would have a president. Perhaps a whole new thread would be “who would prefer a president?”

Anniebach I saw Johnny Matthis in London. Can't remember where or exactly when but somewhere in the West End. He was very good although the production was a bit chaotic.

That isn't very nice Paddyann. I wouldn't want to admit to some of the rubbish I watch on YouTube. I'm not a royalist but it is part of our history and people don't have to explain or apologise for what they watch or listen to.
I am sure Gransnet used to be a bit friendly than it sometimes is now.

wildswan you are right whether we like it or not the Royal family probably is the one constant thing over our lifetime, family, friends, Prime Ministers, Governments, houses, shops come and go but the RF plod on. The two weddings were so different, same cast but seven years make a lot of difference. How interesting it would be to know what HM was thinking. If I remember rightly Harry had been up more or less all night before William's wedding. One thing is certain we know a bit more about them than they do about us.

sarahellenwhitney Tue 29-May-18 10:14:03

If a royal event is televised I watch it. The most recent royal wedding was 'show business', enjoyable, but preferred Kate and Williams in the abbey with all the 'pomp and circumstance' that goes with it. However I do have a life and who am I, unless asked, to tell another or how another should live theirs.

Anniebach Tue 29-May-18 10:00:05

Johnnie Mathis is my one weakness batty, well perhaps not the only one ? . I loved his ‘12th of Never’ , bit disappointed when he ‘came out’ not because he was gay, just he would have sung that song for a chap not for me ?

wildswan16 Tue 29-May-18 09:45:34

The Royal family, and in particular the Queen, has been the one constant thing in my life since I was born. Family members have been born and died, politicians and political parties have been and gone, and world events have shocked or gladdened my heart.

But through it all she, and the office she holds, is the one "thing" that has remained unchanged and has never let me, or the country, down. That constant presence in my personal history is important for me.

I think paddyann would see my life as very sad and mundane, I hope she is happy with hers.

oldbatty Tue 29-May-18 09:28:17

Johnie Mathis? That is too much Annie wink

downtoearth Tue 29-May-18 09:04:37

That comment to oldbatty was uncalled for paddyann...an apology is in order

Anniebach Tue 29-May-18 08:55:06

As a person with no life ,according to Paddyann, I looked at the wedding after oldbatty spoke of it, I looked at quite a few videos of JRM too, and a Johnnie Mathis concert , I will never meet them . I posted on this forum, will never know anyone here, how sad am I ?

Jalima, I am for tradition, it brings stability into an unstable world.

oldbatty Tue 29-May-18 08:47:01

Fennel..... Yes really!! People applauded when he got out of the car!! And look at the almighty mess he created before going off to lie in a hammock or whatever he does these dayshmm

Bathsheba Mon 28-May-18 23:05:33

For that matter, Paddyann, why come on GN and chat with people you've never met, probably know nothing about, and who probably couldn't care less about you?

petra Mon 28-May-18 23:04:29

MotherHubbard
Please don't give her a reason to have another rant. angry

Chewbacca Mon 28-May-18 22:49:14

I have no issue with Paddyann deploring the RF, and all that it stands for; she's perfectly entitled to her opinion on that. What I find unacceptable is her condemnation that oldbatty "has no life" and "latches on to people who don't know she exists" and that, by definition, means that she is "sad". Who does she think she is to be making such personal and spiteful remarks to such an innocuous and innocent post? I too think an apology is called for.

phoenix Mon 28-May-18 22:43:49

Paddyann unpleasant post, perhaps it wasn't directed at oldbatty, however if it was meant to be a more general comment then perhaps you might like to think about how you word things.

MotherHubbard Mon 28-May-18 22:41:54

PaddyAnn why hate the Windsors? What have they done that is so wrong? They have had no more choice than you or I into the family they were born. They are just people like you and I living the life they are given. I see from your posts you have a very happy life, why so bitter about the lives of others?

Bellanonna Mon 28-May-18 22:33:43

I too found her post very rude and insensitive. She should apologise.

Chewbacca Mon 28-May-18 22:28:38

I thought Paddyann's post was just plain rude and spiteful. No call for a comment like that whatsoever.

Anniebach Mon 28-May-18 22:15:47

Paddyann hates the Windsor’s but her attack on them were also an attack on oldbatty who was just chatting about something she had watched.

Keep chatting oldbatty x

Fennel Mon 28-May-18 22:07:11

" David Cameron earning a round of applause" ?? shock

M0nica Mon 28-May-18 21:18:07

paddyann, what a nasty post. Most of the people watching replays are probably nicer than you.

Anniebach Mon 28-May-18 20:10:15

I thought Paddyann’s post sad

Jalima1108 Mon 28-May-18 20:06:38

and that post directed at oldbatty was very unkind paddyann.
