Soop's comfortable, cosy, friendly kitchen...

One more bit of good news, I really am on a roll.
A gardener has just been to see me, he was recommended by my friend and he is coming every two weeks to cut the lawns and any thing extra I need doing. Another weight off my mind.

That's good news ann. A good night's sleep is what you need most - and not just one night! And a gardener - lovely for you to be able to enjoy your garden without the chores attendant on it. Wish I could find someone to give mine a makeover. I'm staying indoors most of the time at the moment - strong sunlight no longer appeals to me. Yesterday in Poynton, there was a sort of hay-storm. Dried grass dropping out of the sky, possibly as a result of a thermal current. There are still strands of hay lying around in the gutters and car parks. Don't think it reached my garden.

Haven't posted for a bit but have been pooing in to see how everyone especially ann is getting on.
ann how you are maintaining your humour I don't know. A good nights sleep is great but then all that washing, you must be exhausted. I do keep hoping you get more respite soon. Great news about the gardener though. You have enough to do without that.

Ann H was definitely correct re his last answer- there must have been a light bulb moment when he realised he was in one hell of a mess but probably did not realise how he got here.

If I read correctly you have been running your w/machine overnight. That worries me slightly because of fires.

Today's bedding is drying outside and in this scorching heat it should take no longer than 30 minutes. The sun is strong but there is a breeze but it is too hot for me to sit outside watching the weeds grow.

I had a lovely fresh fruit scone today with damson jam- delicious. Thank you Morrisons. The fellow also rang wanting to deliver 30 minutes + early which suited me fine.

I also ordered a prepared fruit medley which I intend to start now- I do enjoy strawberries among other fruit- it has to be eaten fairly soon and I do not intend wasting any of it. Then maybe an icecream. Maybe not for healing wounds etc but yummy.

I hope you enjoy your fruit medley, charley. It's definitely not a day for cooking. We called in to Waitrose and -we- DH spent a fortune on stuff for tonight so that it doesn't involve cooking. I love those sorts of meals - we call it having a platter! That sounds really odd now I've seen it written down.

We are just back from sports day (via Waitrose) where Bertie ran with determination but not much power and Persie came 3rd (out of 3) in every race but did it with a smile!

Whilst I had to make a final call into the kitchen to wish you well for tomorrow`s exhausting journey soop... and of course all that goes with it.............but a gal after my own heart,we too used to treat ourselves with a good old fish & chips on the way home.............it saved all the cooking hassle, plus helped to take the "sting" out of the day.

Our hastily assembled platter tonight, as my GD came, was chicken I roasted yesterday but we were too tired to eat, baby piccalino tomatoes from M&S, feta cheese and olives.
We followed it with strawberries and because it was so hot we were full.
GD has just gone and H is shattered, I am getting him to bed asap.

Good evening the kitchen! I am a little late tonight. We have been out walking all day in the cool leafy shade of one of our lovely local rivers. Rivers are very good for the soul and, as DH commented, there is nothing more soothing than the sound of running water (unless it is coming through a ceiling!). Well, yes, he is right, but for ladies of ‘a certain age’ it can have other deleterious effects!! But I managed ?! Here are a couple of pics - the foxglove seemed to be growing there to repel borders on his own little island! I love this particular river. It is one of the rivers that is closely connected to the city’s early cutlery heritage; it is where it all started, and is now just a wonderful place to enjoy its tranquil, pristine waters. Mind you, I just had a message from GS to say he was up there this evening with his running club and they actually got to run through part of the river, and that it was great fun! Not so tranquil, then! He has suggested Grandad might want to try it with him. Grandad has respectfully declined the invitation!

Ann I am heartily glad to hear that both you and your DH got some much needed sleep, and that you have someone to help with the garden (that’s always welcome!). One day at a time. ?

Maw I love the new motor! We got one for GS (what seems like a lifetime ago ☹️) and he was almost surgically attached to it until he got too big! Flynn will almost certainly be the same!

kitty I like the idea of no cooking, too, in weather like this. I have a friend coming for lunch on Friday and I am vassillating crazily about whether to cook something or whether to make a quiche and salad. I don’t want to cook, but I don’t want quiche and salad - especially the salad - either! How did Bertie and Persie’s sports day go? No ill effects I hope?

Corner it sounds as if life has been a little fractious of late with matters technological? Hope it will soon be resolved and your equilibrium returns in short order.?

I sat outside around 6pm this evening but it was too hot for me so I retreated inf=doors again.

I had one of the fruit scones with Damson jam for supper and then I scoffed half of the lovely cherries I bought from Morrisons on line. A large container at more than half the price of my nearest more up market supermarket where I can usually count the number of cherries for 3 times the price.

Greyduster May I recommend one of my go-to “easy meals”, a boned chicken in honey and mustard marinade (or sunblush tomatoes) from my favourite supermarket, ideal hot or cold, boiled new potatoes or potato salad, green salad, job done! It will do three or four at a pinch, depending on appetites.

That looks very good, Maw. Unfortunately, the supermarket in question is almost an hour’s drive from where we live! But thankyou anyway! ?

I am sure other supermarkets are available as they say.

Maw that is my nearest supermarket and I have never seen that product there. As soon as I can drive I will beetle down the road and have a look!

I am very fond of the meals where all of the ingredients are in place and it takes around 20 minutes to cook. My only moan is that chicken appears to be the only meat available and for me it gets boring.

Good Morning My Kitchen people and yes another sweltering day here on the Welsh coast.

The holidaymakers are in their glee,our beaches and the sea are full of happy bodies sunning themselves!Whilst the kiddies are thoroughly lapping it all up.

Whilst a few of us oldies with health issues are certainly fraying around the edges.I spent yesterday in a darkened room so recovered slightly, and then with the fan on all night, survived to greet another day.

However thinking very much of soop and her man travelling and Hospital bound this day,just hoping their news will be good and they enjoy those fish and chips.!!

We have cancelled our afternoon at a Garden Fete which was to be held in a south facing garden in a town,realising I am altogether wilting............ best be safe than sorry.............however I hope I can manage my hair do which should not take too long.

I am sure I can see you licking your lips when mentioning a fruit medley Charley..........I am with you there as this time of year, I delve right in with those juicy red/black cherries and rosy cheeked nectarines, whilst those red grapefruit make a delicious brekkers.

I've taken my fans down from the top of a cupboard and last night my bedroom was lovely and cool, but eventually I had to turn it off as my feet were getting cold!
Courier has just delivered a very nice handbag I've bought on Ebay - cream (Not beige!) leather and in perfectly clean condition. That's my new 'summer' bag!
