I can only really tolerate milk when added to my coffee. I can thank free milk at school for that- I hated the stuff. that plus my mother telling me how good it was for me and the children in Africa would love it. I used to say well send it to them then and got a whack for wanting to share!

Lots of my family don't like milk and many of us don't take it in tea or coffee. Nobody took me to task for refusing school milk and I wasn't made to feel the odd one out. Someone probably got an extra bottle.

We were forced by the teachers to drink it. I could tolerate it when it was very cold but sitting beside a radiator and slightly warm was double yuck for me.

Tara is loving my extra early nights.

I was a school milk refuser also, I think because, at home, my mother bought sterilised milk which was truly horrible. Even as a child I wouldn’t drink it in tea and still can’t, although I now drink pasteurised milk and take it in coffee and drinking chocolate.
Well, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that my rickety Stone Age freezer is defrosted, up and running fine. The bad news is that my fridge freezer, which is not very old, has decided that it’s freezer, now that it is defrosted, is not going to work! The fridge is working fine but I don’t really know if it is safe to run one half without the other. A small first world problem. I will still have ice for my gin and tonic. I am seriously tired tonight so I will bid you all a peaceful goodnight!

We had to have a note from home to get out of having school milk. Not all parents, including mine, would write one, so one girl in my class, a tiny little thing she was, drank about 9 bottles every morning! Her name was Irene Jepson, she had long, bright red hair, I wonder if she`s on Gransnet?
The district nurse never came yesterday. This morning I rang the surgery to be told that the district nurses no longer work from there, and was given a number to ring. I got through at 8.45am, but it was a recording. I left a message with all the details, but by 10.05 nobody had been in touch, so I rang again, leaving all details again. I rang again at 12 noon, hung up when I got the recording, then again at 2.15pm. But at 2.20 the phone rang, it was them, asking why I`d just rung them and not left a message? I said I`d left 2 messages earlier she said "Oh yes, we got those, a nurse is going to ring you this afternoon to discuss it with you." Nobody rang, and those dressings, that have been on since last Friday morning, are ponging summat rotten. She has an appointment at the hospital tomorrow afternoon, wonder what they`ll make of it?
Sorry, I`ll stop moaning now.

Ann, I know you`re worried about your hubby, but he`s in good hands, relax and enjoy your brief freedom and respite.

ann you need a rest. I know you feel guilty but it has to be. My dear SIL felt the same but she was virtually on her knees befor my DB went into care. Your DGD sounds delightful. I hope you enjoy your meal. Take care and try and rest

Haven’t really had time to catch up,properly with everybody’s day but just wanted to say that Hattie and I and sis on law had a wonderful day Out!
Hattie got so many Co pliments and strokes from other people and behaved impeccably.
She is a very tired doggy now andI am a very tired human!

It turns out DD’s college friend and flatmate was Chief Judge of the Show gardens ( oo-er) and she gave us the lowdown. The best in Show was lovely but my picture was blurred hence the silver!
Oh and one of Flynn who spent at least half an hour on the tractor display!

Sounds and looks a wonderful experience maw, feet up today? Been thinking about you ann, it must seem very strange but you do need the rest. Food after surgery is a right pain, charley but you do need the nutrition. Can I join in the reminding? Having said that I also disliked school milk and still don’t drink milk willingly.

Don’t know what to say about the dressing, or rather lack of dressing, callgirl, hope the hospital sort it today. Sounds as if there’s a need for a system overhaul with the nurses.

I recall macs had a reasonable outcome at the hospital soop, hoping the next appointment is also positive.

Not sure what we’ll do today. Had planned a day off from ‘stuff’ and a trip out but it’s cloudy, potential for showers. I’m shattered and get up and go seems to have left us both. Would it be really wrong to sleep through a day off? Watch this space .

Got home late yesterday and spending the day driving down to get Sam and see everyone. So I’ll pop in tomorrow when my jet lag has improved!

Morning all, I haven't caught up properly either. I had two tiring days of very busy volunteering and childminding and 'counselling' DD3 who has had a lot of aggro with CMS (caused by the Idiot!) and now we have woken up to the news that she is bleeding and off to hospital - please can I have a hug!!

DH is being very male about it - as in 'what will be will be' etc. I know that but......! Back later when I will catch up - honest!

I am going to do a little prospecting on a local stream today where I have seen fishy activity. I will probably end up getting very wet. Then it is school run day, so hopefully a bit of cricket after school with the boy. Oh, and when i got up this morning my freezer was working again, but I have decided only to put things in there that I can afford to lose if it all goes pear shaped again!

Another of our lovely sunny mornings here on our west coast,the sea is sparkling like diamonds glittering in the sunshine, whilst our gardens,hedgerows and all the countryside around and about us is a joy.

Of course yes there are those darn tractors with farmers at the sileage but for the best part there are happy faces trekking to and from our beaches...........truly “making hay whilst the sun shines”

Nice to catch up again after quite an eventful day,in fact my dear man has been truly busy this week getting all the grass mowed and edges trimmed, plus has completed trimming the front hedge reducing it to a very neat boundary yet again.
He was pushed into doing the latter by the surprising news of a viewer at this very early stage.
However that old adage “Never look a gift horse in the mouth” sprang into action on hearing there were interested people willing to make the long journey from Dorset to view ..........we need to sell ............hence we made every effort to accommodate them.

A very unusual couple probably in their late 50`s whom were now staying at her 92 year old Father`s home,having sold up their guest House on the coast.
They had driven 5 hours on very busy roads to arrive here.

In fact they had taken a year off...........evangelising in Norway.......yes both were evangelists and when hearing we were Christians, having surmised it also by a few objects seen around our home..........there was far more talk of their work than of our house!!!!

However they were given plenty of time and had a grand tour, and I suppose in the fullness of time we shall have some feed back.
They did say they would need to pray on the fact that this move and this house being right for them,a first for us ............and yes one indeed learns something new most days.

Quite frankly I am pretty discerning when it comes to folk and my immediate impressions were....... they were not right for this place.
However I have been known to be wrong before.......and this time I would be pleased if I were wrong again!!

* Kittylester *you certainly need a special Welsh cwtch.......hugs that we are famous for, whilst trusting there will be some forthvcoming better news afoot,sounds as though you have really had a rough couple of days.

I think it was you * Callgirl* whom asked if we had a place to move to........well the Apartment we were in the process of buying back at Christmas is still available, whilst of course we continue keeping our nose to the ground for anything remotely suitable................remembering we are downsizing big time and certainly no garden...............however yes, a little terrace or balcony is a must.

Delighted hearing you are taking the opportunity to rest and relax * Ann60 *...........that is the whole point of this respite,push those feelings of guilt far away,think instead of all the caring you have already done for your dear man........... otherways you will defeat the whole point of respite by giving yourself a hard time.

I feel ever so envious of both you * Maw * and your Hattie........of course your feet are sore and your joints feel as if they have trekked mount Everest...........but oh! what a treat visiting such a place as Chatsworth AND a Flower Show..........such a delight, but admittedly these visits do take some resting afterwards.

I cannot actually blame you for since I was brought up on a working farm, and watched my Foster mother milk the cows....
I hated the stuff.
Yet have over the years tolerated it in the making of puds.
After all it really does put some strength back into a poorly body and by the sounds of things you need that pick me up!!!
However it seems many of you have an aversion to the stuff..........I cannot stand it in tea or coffee either.

Which brings me back to the point of picking up and putting on the weight...............would you believe the 5 to 7 pounds I put on previous to my E.R.C.P............a requirement by the Medics was for 9 pounds.
On weighing yesterday I have lost every one of those pounds yet again.
It is the stuff you people weight watching........... * JaneD3 * (are you sitting up and taking heed?)..........would love.............but it seems I am no longer destined to put on any surplus fat.
At least I shall get full usage of all my new wardrobe which does make a change!!

My dislike of milk might just account for my filling-laden teeth! I'm off to the dentist this morning to have a molar sorted out. A filling has removed itself and, as I didn't notice it had happened, I suppose I must have swallowed it.

Thinking of Ann and hoping she can relax and recuperate a bit whilst her DH is away. At the very least she should get a bit more sleep.

GD and I went out for a lovely Italian meal last night and finished the evening off having a cocktail sitting outside a trendy wine bar. Who says "oldies" can't enjoy themselves?
Down to earth now though sorting the house out ,jobs I don't seem to get done while H is here and getting in touch with Age Concern about getting legal advice about my financial situation if or when I cannot cope.
Both the MH team and the SW are telling me it will come to that. I need all my ducks in a row for that eventuality.

I know it is possible, my friends 90 year old mother had a very debilitating stroke 2 years ago and has been in a nursing/care home since being discharged from hospita
and it was a battle to “prove” she needed 24/7 care but also the administration of meds and nursing care (not that she gets much)
The house was safe because her 94 year old husband still lives in it and she had no pension of her own and very little money other than joint accounts etc What her husband has was effectively “halved” between them and the contribution her family make to supplement what SS will pay is not actually too bad.
