What 'occassions' do you dress/make up for?

I'm usually in jeans or jeggings with sweatshirt/jumper/t-shirt etc even when I go out. I do have a nice black skirt/black trousers teamed with an appropriate blouse/sweater for winter & smart white trousers or a skirt for summer. I don't go out in the evening so no "dress up" events.

My earrings go in when I do my hair when I get up & dressed. I usually only wear mascara & lipstick as I'm allergic to most make up. Always perfume, my nails however are a different matter, always perfect nail polish, I'm lucky that I have strong nails which grow quite long even though I enjoy gardening & I do the housework (when necessary)

I wear trainers most of the time (Podiatrist recommendation) but I do have some nice shoes & boots.

Every day for work I wear my make up and dress smartly. I wear dresses, skirts, blouses and smart trousers and alway do my hair. On Fridays we have dress down day and can come in jeans if we want. Mine are always clean, pressed and with a smart but casual top. I'll always make an effort to look nice when I go out and wouldn't go for a meal in my gardening clobber. What happens in the garden stays in the garden or sometimes the tip.

In the evening if I'm staying in I'll throw on the leggings and T shirt or something equally comfy.

I enjoy dressing up for a big event and knowing I look my best when I can.

We recently went to the opera (a rare occurrence) and I wore a dress and OH a suit. Although there were a few folk dressed like us, and some a bit smarter, I was amazed at the number of men and women in jeans and teeshirts. Perhaps they were all music students who didn't have anything else to wear but it did rather detract from the sense of occasion.

I wear clothes I feel comfortable in but look reasonable [in my eyes anyway!] and always wear makeup but mascara only for work or going out somewhere - not for every day.

I got all dressed up a couple of weeks ago, first thing DGS said when he saw me was "what have you done to your face Grandma".
At the event people kept doing double takes and I wasn't quite sure how to react.
I don't even get dressed up for going to Church as if I did you would guarantee I would end up in the kitchen or doing something mucky.

When we go out for a meal it's nice trousers and top, but people don't really dress up for restaurants these days. I find when I'm on holiday I'm much more into dressing for dinner. Somehow having a bit of a tan makes me want to wear jewellery, pretty sandals and a dress.

I wear makeup as soon as I m out the shower but it’s only eyeliner mascara and lippy I always put in earrings at the same time then just try my best to look clean tidy and fairly up to date but I don’t go to ‘smart’ occasions really now so lunch or cinema would be just smart casual
I haven’t worn a dress or skirt for about 40 years although my legs are one of my good bits but I don’t feel right in them
Makeup would be standard the same for sitting in or going out (light)
I ve never been a dresser upper really just try to always loo’as nice as i can

I'm with Paddyann. I never leave house without makeup & I hope I dress well every day.
I used to walk my dog very early every morning & then went out without makeup & in dog walking gear but since we lost her I have never even gone out to put the bins out without the full works. I too was told by Mum & Grandmother that you always made an effort.
I do it if I am by myself all day & not seeing anyone too, I think I would if I was marooned on a desert island- it's just who I am & I am very happy with it.

The only time I have worn a dress in the last few years was for a wedding. I have few skirts, so it is mainly trousers, though never jeans. I wear separates, ranging from smart to scruffy, depending on what I am doing.
Sometimes I dress up a bit for church, but most people don’t, except much older ladies.
I had foot problems two years ago and had to wear specific shoes which necessitated trousers really. I got so used to them, and so comfortable, that it has become my style, with the odd exception.
DH usually looks smarter than me as he rarely goes out without a jacket and tie. Recently we went for a meal out before a concert and he was the smartest dressed in the restaurant, which was not a posh one for an early meal, and one of only a handful in the audience to wear a tie. It was a hot evening, so there was good reason not to be overdressed.
I don’t know which is more awkward: to be overdressed, or too scruffy. Depends on the occasion, I guess.

I'll be staying in nice hotels on hols this year and have been digging out some dresses and skirts. Normally cover up my arms but DH says there's nothing wrong with them so hay ho sleeveless frocks!

I never dress up.
It doesn't interest me at all.
I'm likely to try and get out of any situation where I may have to dress up.

teddy I have the same approach as you - I love getting dressed up but am a sight to behold in my gardening gear.
We had some building work done a couple of years ago and I emerged from the house ready to do a spell of weeding, and came face to face with one of the builders.
He looked at me in amazement and finally said ‘Gannin’ somewhere nice, pet?’

I like to make an a bit of an effort simply to leave the house, even if it's just to the shops, or a coffee or meal with friends.
I don't wear much make-up, occasionally lipstick, but I like to make sure my clothes, hair and shoes are up to scratch.
I always say that I may be a 60-something widow but I don't want to look like a bag of washing.

I dress up all the time 'cos I love it. My sis and I have a saying "never knowingly under dressed' which just about sums it up. And must wear perfume every day, even if I'm at home.

I no longer overdo the actual make-up as less is definitely these days!

Only time I'm a total wreck is when gardening when it's hat pulled down to my eyebrows, leggings & and old anorak or vest. Not a good look.

Dressing up might involve smart casual ie jeans etc or total over the top dress, high heels & full make up, jewellery blah blah.

I'm moving house tomorrow & have already planned what I'll wear! Pathetic? Yes but if it makes me feel more confident & happy that's fine!

I'm naturally pallid, so usually put on a little blusher and/or bronzer, plus lipstick. I try to persuade my hair to look something like it was when I left the salon. Most of my clothes are casual - my one obsession is to have matching colours, especially in accessories - large red handbag, red boots and red gloves, for example. I've masses of scarves in different colours too which tend to smarten up a casual outfit. I feel naked without earrings!

Living in France province I'm in jeans/trousers and jumpers and Giles in winter, and swimmers in summer.

I am anything from smart casual to well dressed if I leave the house. I love clothes so always dress up for weddings and other occasions.

I wear little or no make-up but don't put the dustbin out without perfume!

I'm an atheist but it still apalls me that the French go to church and funerals in jeans!

With my lifestyle ? even a trip to Tesco gives me the chance /encouragement to change my jeans and baggy top for something 'different' bought from Next or Per Una.

On my first date with my now OH I wore a knock-out low cut white summer dress and bkack sequin fit-flops to meet in the car park of a country pub.
He was nervous (we'd 'met' on a dating site 3 weeks previously) and came straight from demolishing his kitchen in jeans tshirt and Sketchers.
I wanted to dazzle and he was worried that he'd be punching above his weight...so he said.
I always like to dress for him and he likes to indulge my fondness for shopping.

Living in the country I do not need to dress up but usually dress tidily when going into the big town to shop and we often have lunch out on these occasions too.
This morning we needed to pop up to the local supermarket to get some milk and I went just in my joggers and fleece - if I had gone any differently I would have stuck out like a sore thumb with the local farming population.
In the summer it is very easy to spot the tourists when they are shopping in the towns or big supermarkets because they are usually clad in clothing far more suitable for the beach or campsite! Shorts are fine but inhabitants normally wear much longer ones than the cheek showing variety favoured by the tourists!

I like to look good every day so always put some make up on. If we're going out in the evening then I'll change and tidy make up. Only if I'm at home all day do I not wear make up!

I put it down to living in Hong Kong for 20 years where everyone is smart and polished. I went to the supermarket once in t-shirt and shorts (this was many years ago!) and no make up and spent the whole time avoiding the ultra-glam wife of someone we knew who I luckily spotted before she spotted me!!!

So relieved to read this thread. I live in jeans and I hate wearing dresses! I do wear make-up every day though.

I dress up suitably for every occasion I can. The world is so dress down these days that it gives me a boost. However, I am also very happy in scruff at home. Horses for courses but dressing 'up' is never a chore. Quite exciting actually when deciding what to wear. This comes from a pretty ancient wardrobe. Haven't bought anything for ages other than replacement jeans.

I believe that if my DH is taking me out (old fashioned I know but that’s how I like to look at it) then I will dress up smart casual for the event plus makeup and I always thank him for it too ?. Likewise if I go out with my friends in the evening, family birthday events (even the DGDs), Christmas etc.

So far I've dressed up for weddings and not much else, apart from dinners when we're on holiday. But tonight we're attending a charity ball, so there you go, one more occasion.

For everyday, I do wear blusher as I look totally pasty without it. Otherwise no make up. CBA, tbh
