I'll start off with:

*He arrives home with red roses and they are for his mother
*You wear the perfume he admired on his friend's wife and he asks if the drains are blocked again
*His idea of a romantic day together is a trip to the fishing tackle shop

Lying around swimming pool in Cyprus in April holding hands. I looked into his eyes and asked if he was happy.....his smile vanished and he said he really ought to have waited to go on holiday until after the new tax year. That is an accountant for you!

Oh what romantic h and p we have. X

Blinko Sun 06-May-18 14:07:18

Jimbowl did you buy her compost for her birthday?

Teddy123 Sun 06-May-18 14:19:56

When he buys you an electric sander for Christmas. AN ELECTRIC SANDER !!!! May I add that it WASN'T because he secretly wanted it for himself!

I'm divorced!

SunnySusie Sun 06-May-18 14:31:17

He buys you a bottle of his favourite wine for your birthday pressie (Chardonnay which gives you a headache!).

I’m very lucky that on the whole my DH is thoughtful and generous HOWEVER he buys me so many pot plants it looks like bloomin’ Kew Gardens here at times.

We have more orchids than you would find in a Japanese garden or wherever the originate from.

Once every few weeks he has a mass watering session and lines them up in the kitchen ??????????

Set of three Brillo pan scourers with the promise of a lovely meal out later that day. After I got myself all dolled up I was whisked off to BHS for a slice of Pork Pie and a Diet Coke.

ELFIES love the mushroom compost smile

There was the year I got the set of drain rods. And the year I got a sack barrow. I had mentioned the need, but was nevertheless surprised. Fortunately they both arrived with a small box enclosing something shiny.

I used to get very pissed off when his sisters bought me stuff like tea towels, apron and matching tea cosy! Especially when he always got something for himself. Maybe if they’d bought them for him he might have taken the hint and washed up. Doubt it though. Yes we are divorced.

For my first Christmas married, my then DH bought me some Kitchen Devil knives.
For my birthday in year 3, he gave me a tumble dryer.

A side gate for my birthday in November and a pallet of bricks for a front garden wall for Christmas in the same year, I've learnt to ask for something unromantic, my darling husband hasn't got a clue about romance, so I always ask for a job to be done!!!!!!! I love him to bits though he does so much for me,?

Bez1989 Sun 06-May-18 19:01:36

I HONESTLY don't think romance has died if we do things for each other. ...
EG....I'm on the loo and ask my Hubby to bring me some toilet rolls in......we both had a laugh saying how romantic it was.
I like that we do practical things for each other.....it means that we are
Good Friends.

I never buy the wife flowers as she prefers not to receive any and plants get forgotten and die. One night I did come home with a bunch of flowers and my son pointed out that I'd left the price on them. Truth be known, they gave them to me free as the store was closing for the night! I eventually confessed with a smile! grin

KirbyGirl Sun 06-May-18 20:04:52

First birthday present after we were married, a biography of Hart Crane, an American poet who committed suicide.

pollyperkins Sun 06-May-18 20:06:44

I also quite like practical things for birthday or christmas. If he buys jewellery or clothes they are usually not to my taste anyway.
Blinko I love tge comment about saving electricity! I've got one like that but don't mind -I find it rather endearing. It makes me laugh.
Although when I had my first baby he turned up with some rather wilting flowers he' d bought from a garage. I put them in a vase by my bed and a nurse offered to throw them away as they were past it. I said Nooo - he's only just brought them!!

callgirl1 Sun 06-May-18 20:34:04

When I had my first baby, he brought me a big bunch of chrysanthemums............zipped up in a holdall so nobody would see him with flowers!

Synonymous Sun 06-May-18 20:41:31

I suppose it must be when you can't remember the last time he bought something for you off his own bat! shock

I have to say that he is more likely to bring me a bunch of carrots in from the garden than any flowers. I have tried to get round this by buying a packet of sweet pea seeds but guess out of all the seeds that were sown which of them failed to germinate!? I now tell him what he has bought me and he doesn't quibble - works for us! He is always telling me how much he loves me and we have been married more than 50 years! grin

starlily106 Sun 06-May-18 21:39:30

He buys you a frying pan for Valentine's Day, and you are just going out with each other, not married.

starlily106 Sun 06-May-18 21:49:32

Was very tempted to whack him over the head with it.

maddyone Sun 06-May-18 22:45:57

After the birth of our first baby he turned up with some flowers wrapped up in a bit of brown paper, I didn’t take much notice of them, they weren’t very impressive, and I was more interested in my new baby. He drew my attention to them saying, ‘do you like the flowers, they were two for the price of one.’
He would have got away with the flowers being less than impressive if he hadn’t drawn my attention to them with that comment which I’ve never forgotten.

maddyone Sun 06-May-18 22:48:16

And during the labour of our first baby he turned up with a pile of Latin books to mark (he was a teacher) and a pile of reports to write, as apparently ‘it’s going to be boring.)

maddyone Sun 06-May-18 22:50:41

The same thing happened during the labour of our second baby, he brought a massive pile of reports to write. Before the labour of our third, I told him he either came alone, without books or reports, or he stayed away.!

NanaNancy Mon 07-May-18 07:32:38

How about the very worst, "Why don't you let me do this with other women?" said the X.

kittylester Mon 07-May-18 07:50:44

My birthday is January 5th and I had one boyfriend who said I had to choose between a birthday present and a Christmas present but I couldn't have both! I chose birthday and get a big box of chocolates!

The romance died very quickly.
