I'll start off with:

*He arrives home with red roses and they are for his mother
*You wear the perfume he admired on his friend's wife and he asks if the drains are blocked again
*His idea of a romantic day together is a trip to the fishing tackle shop

His idea of an afternoon out (and he gets excited about it too) is a trip to B&Q

My ex gave me a very badly carved large wooden bowl shaped like a hand. I sawed off three of the fingers and gave it back to him!

I had an elderly patient who was refusing to be discharged from hospital. I talked to her for a while to discover she was insistent that she would not go home to her husband. She had led an awful life with him but the last straw for her was that he had given her a pair of kippers for her birthday! We found he a wee sheltered house and she was in 7th heaven.

An ironing board cover, one Christmas - Grrrr

Now really fancying kippers for breakfast....

Our romance seemed to have come to an end after the birth of our first child. He didn't bring the champagne or flowers into the hospital like the other dads did. His excuse was the daffodils I planted looked so nice he didn't want to spoil the display. Whilst drinking everyone else's champagne I was told that this was how it will be from now on and sadly they were right but still together after 45 years.

When my late DH presented me with a bouquet on my birthday 'unusual as he would normally forget it', I could not resist saying 'were these on special offer '
He never could resist a bargain and we would always have to make for the' specials' section first in any shop we visited.

I thought the tin opener was a bit mean.
I am feeling over generous now, I bought my W a set of pans!

Emptynester Sun 06-May-18 10:03:19

Tells you he’s bringing you a present home with him and turns up with a box of slug pellets!

inishowen Sun 06-May-18 10:35:33

He bought me a battery operated foot file last Christmas! I was always complaining about rough skin on my feet. At least he listened.

In their defence, they would almost certainly be thrilled to receive a new drill, socket wrench set etc.

Jillyblom59 Sun 06-May-18 10:56:50

My ex bought me a pressure cooker for Christmas. He had broken the previous one whilst trying to make fishing bait. ?

Nannymarg53 Sun 06-May-18 10:59:30

Ha ha! Love this thread. I’m so glad I’m single ??

Bathsheba Sun 06-May-18 11:14:25

Jillyb grin - so he broke the pressure cooker and gave you the replacement as a present, hahahaha!

ReadyMeals Sun 06-May-18 11:14:39

It's funny the posts about it being a mistake to buy household utensils etc - I LOVE tools - whether DIY or homemaking things like tin openers. I always used to complain if I received toiletries or jewellery or flowers.

Jimbow15 Sun 06-May-18 11:16:06

Listen girls we boys get those same feelings as well.
How about when you find you wife was cheating on you for years?

Legs55 Sun 06-May-18 11:21:09

I loved getting things for the kitchen or garden as it meant DH (no.3) had listened to what I wanted. No wonder I stayed married to him for nearly 21 yearssmile

Can't remember any truly awful presents but with H no.2 I was planning to start studying (DD was 4) again, I must have known he was going to abandon us.

H no.1 was a control freak, glad it was in the days before mobile phones. He would come home from work & question who I seen, who I'd spoken to, where I'd been. He always pleaded poverty but earned a good wage, no lavish presents for me (but no tin opener eithergrin)

When you are sitting in a restaurant on Valentine's Day with all the other couples gazing longingly into each others eyes with gifts of roses and jewellery whilst you sit talking about whether it might be a good idea to get life insurance as your husband has just found out he might have high blood pressure. grin

elfies Sun 06-May-18 12:21:22

I got 25 bags of Mushroom Compost as a present .
As he reminded me , I DID say I could do with some !

NanaRayna Sun 06-May-18 12:28:14

It wasn't the end of a romance but at the beginning of six years together that he bought me leg wax and I bought him odour eaters...

Nannyme Sun 06-May-18 12:37:59
