Tattoos

A very small one at my DDs suggestion an elephant one our wrists which, when you put wrists together they make a heart with their trunks. So sweet but I had to point out the one day one half of the heart will be missing so she replied that she would get her daughter (not got any children yet) to get one and so carry it on. Sweet, but i haven’t had the nerve to have it done yet

My daughter is a Tattoed nurse, it doesn't affect her ability to do her job, she's a very caring generous person, who puts her patients 1st, my other daughter also has tattooes, she has a good job is also a good person and a brilliant mother, there's nothing seedy about any of us,

So, I'm not alone in hating these ugly things that deface the skin. It puzzles me how so many people who say they haven't got any money, can afford to have them done.

I’ve got a bumble-bee on my tum. I love it and couldn’t care less what anyone thinks of it. However, I’m of the opinion that ‘less is more’ so shall not be getting any more.

It doesn't matter what age you are when you get them you are still going to have them when you get old, and having a tattoo doesn't mean you are a tramp, that is an dated opinion, women wear very revealing clothes these days,have everything pierced and have cosmetic surgery this too would have been criticized years ago,some people think of them as works of art!people can do what they like with their own bodies and if it's going to cause professional people like nurses being judged its ridiculous, I work in a hospital and LOTS of people have them, if you don't like don't look!

I wouldn't have one at all. Just looking at them makes me feel sick. My 92 year old Father has them on his arms [army]. I think they are creepy and his now look dreadful. yuk.

My daughter asked what I thought of tattoo's when she was about 16... I said I didn't like them but understood all people are different! She got one!! And went on to get a few more. None are awful. Although one is quite big on her arm. My son didn't bother to ask.... he got one when he was about sixteen and didn't bother telling me.... he'd had it two months before he took his shirt if one warm day and I 'clocked" it. It's their body and their lives. Why get so get up about something they will do especially if you say no.

If I ever had one, it would be “DNR” on the inside of my wrist.
Otherwise, although a very small discreet tat is pretty, I’m not a great fan of the ginormous all over ones.

Symbol of the 3 of us getting through tough times on back of shoulder as everywhere else is sagging.

Not for me but I would never judge anyone who chooses to have them. Can't say I like the ones which cover the face, neck and arms but as someone said, each to their own.

I had a dear friend who would have a small tattoo for every year she survived cancer - she got to 5 (still miss her)

Nice enough on the young but imagine them on old wrinkled skin ?

I have a small spray of flowers on my foot, one for each of my DC and DGS and it's pretty and delicate. However, DS has now presented us with a DGD and DIL, SIL and StepGS all wanted to be included. So as it's my big 7-0 this year I'm having a new one done on my other foot, which is badly scarred from a scooter accident in my 'mod' days. I've never really had a surprise so I have put implicit trust in DD to have one designed to include all 10 of us and to cover the scar. I'm very excited - she's terrified!

There’s nothing wrong with having a small tattoo inside your wrist. Or a small tasteful one somewhere that only a partner would see. It’s when people are covered in random tattoos which aren’t very well done and smudgy that they look vile. I don’t like tattoos at all, but I can’t see a problem with just something small like a butterfly, specially if it’s where no one can see it! I can’t stand the full sleeves or when people have got them right up their neck and every available inch of skin, and even nowadays on their faces and heads!!! I never thought I’d see that! I work in Southend and in my lunch break I saw a woman with her husband and small children and she had tattoos all over her neck and visible boobs of the faces of her children. OMG it looked hideous. By the way the OM one mentioned by someone I think was quite tasteful.

I hate them would never get one have never seen one I like on either man nor woman young or older

Just had a look at Tattoo fails and have to admit , some are horrible, especially on peoples faces,I personally don't like tongue piercing, it makes me feel sick when I see it,

I was devestated when my then 18 year old daughter had one.
Her perfect body defaced.
She is now a 35 year old Mum and wants it removed so her daughter doesn’t want one eventually!!

Not a fan of them myself however my Dad had one on his left forearm (had it done out in the far East during WW2) It was very discreet because he had very hairy arms but I loved looking at it when I was a child as it was a small heart with an arrow going through it and my Mum' s name IVY in it. My daughter has a little bird on her shoulder - she had to wear a matching bolero to her dress when she was a bridesmaid at her brother's wedding as the bride didn't approve and didn't want it on view as they walked down the aisle.

Rather alarmingly my DH has started talking about wanting one at the grand age of 58! He said he wants one of his beloved road bike but I think he's trying to wind me up - not that I would object. He keeps talking about growing a beard which seem to be trendy just now, but that hasn't materialised either.

Not something that i would get done.

I have Bastet the Egyptian cat Goddess on my arm, I like tattoos but wouldn't go over the top with them, it's a personal choice, just as everyone has different taste in make-up, clothes, jewellery and hair styles,

I too always hated tattoos, despite my ds having 3 at my current count. However much like other things the world is changing. My own mother hated seeing women in trousers, imagine us judging each other based on that now?

With regards to job prospects, I suspect that will change with the current generations. The Midwife who delivered my dgs apparently had a very beautiful tattoo, which my her, my ds and dil discussed. Why would they have had any issue with her having a tattoo when the baby’s father had spent a small fortune on them?

I dislike the permanence of tattoos. We are all capable of changing our minds, and tattoos are very difficult and painful to get rid of.
Small delicate ones are ok I suppose, but I keep thinking of that huge affair of giant red roses that Cheryl Whassername had done on her bottom. Her pretty little bum looked like a slab of raw meat - very disfiguring!

I've said this on here before many moons ago that the only one I want is DNR on my forehead when I go into the carehome.

Yuk! Loathe them. Have detested them all my life and will, I’m sure, continue to do so. The garish colour choices are hideous.
To me, they look dirty and give a person a seedy air.
Phew, glad I got that off my chest - venom free for the rest of the day.
