Well I've been for a check up at the dentist this morning, also the hygienist.
It was a young woman, who very kindly explained how to use an electric toothbrush and told me I'd let myself down by not cleaning my teeth at the right time!
I've had an electric toothbrush for several years and I did read the instructions!! Let myself down!! Patronising or what?
Had a nice coffee in the sunshine and I feel much better now

When is the right time to clean one's teeth?

Burns hurt! I spent yesterday evening with my hand in and out of a bucket of cold water. I also had it beside the bed with a towel on a tray on the bed beside me to rest my hand on between dips. I fell asleep eventually and woke up pain free but with two large blisters and some red patches. The knack will be not bursting the blisters (so far so good with large plasters on!)... hey ho!

It is quite spring-like here now (for here). Current temp about 12°C.

How's your leg, soop?

That sounds very painful Baggs, how did you burn yourself?

*soop if you have not visited the nurse I will be up on Monday to frog march you there! The way things are going the grand family gathering will minus 1!

Baggs you are not getting off Scot free- how daft was that yesterday? At least you appear to be doing the correct things except I would not put a plaster remotely close to the burnt area. I will drop in on Monday to give First Aid training. What a pair- look after yourselves.

Lona, there were some crumbs on the hob (ceramic). MrB and MiniB have been trained to sweep up breadcrumbs to one side of the cooker but they don't see ones that spread onto the cooker top ?. Stupidly, I'd got into the habit of swiping my hand across to remove crumbs just before putting a pan down. I forgot I'd just had a kettle on. Total eejit! That's that habit broken, I think!

charley, the plasters are to keep the blisters intact (so far so good—no skin broken yet). And to hide them! I didn't want people at work traumatised!

Baggs Burns are a buggeration. You are doing the right thing. I hope that you are feeling a little better today.

I've had a wonderfully productive afternoon clearing the very worst area in our garden. It now looks cared for. It is now ready for all the spring flowers.

So sorry to have to dash. I must shower. I promise to spend some quality time with you all in the morning.

PS gash is beginning to knit together. No inflammation or nastiness. A good bit of bruising.

soop that looks a serious 'ouchie', you sound to be enjoying your gardening but please be careful out there.

baggs I had no idea from your previous post that you had burnt yourself so badly. It sounds so painful. As you say, you need to take care of the blisters. Hope your hand heals soon (electric kettle purchase maybe?)

Thanks, doodle. We have an electric kettle but our boiler is playing sillybuggers at the moment so I'm having to heat water for washing up and since we have two hob kettles from former times, I've got them out...

I've had quite a few burns in my life. This one was pretty standard in the sense that I've had to go to bed with a bucket of water handy two or three times before. It's definitely easier if you can lie on your stomach and let your hand droop but my arthritic neck isn't keen on that any more.
Someone told me once I should have gone to A&E with a burn covering more than a square inch of skin but there's nothing else they could have done except inject me with morphine and they probably wouldn't do that so... shrug and cope is my approach.

I burnt my foot on my motorbike in Thailand once. Kept the small egg-sized blister intact for over a week and when it finally broke the skin underneath had healed.

I burnt my thumb badly one Christmas Day taking a dish out of the oven. I still managed to cook the rest of the meal and dish up with one hand immersed in an ice bucket which I hung round my neck on a strap. I looked a bit daft in the Christmas photos mind you

As a child we always had real candles on our floor to ceiling Christmas tree. (Mum was German so Christmas was always traditionally German )
That is until one year when a lit candle fell into a pile of wrapping paper. With great reactions but also little regard for herself she “clapped” the flames. to in both hands to put it out and had dreadful burns on both. palms. That would have been on Christmas Eve so how she coped with cooking Christmas Dinner I have no idea.

Baggs I hope your hand gets better asap, as it must be extremely difficult as well as painful.

Hello my darlings. The sun is shining. The day has started on a happy note. A pal is treating us to lunch as a thank you for the support we were very happy to give her prior and post hip surgery. She looks and feels ten years younger.

Lona Bloody cheek! That dentist was certainly patronising. I hope that you flashed a smirky smile in response.

I hope that our Baggs is feeling more comfortable. That was a seriously nasty mishap.

anno You have a serious ouch what with the infected root to contend with. Please update us. Tooth pain is ghastly.

The leg is more bruised today. However, the wound is knitting well. I cannot begin to tell you how gratified I am when I take a wander in the garden. It's all been worth the hard graft.

We're to be picked up at noon. I need to smarten up. I shall return later...there is nothing left for me to do on the plot. Mission accomplished

I was hoping for news of Ann's husband.

soop you should not be allowed outside and Baggs should not be allowed near a kitchen, a BBQ outside or even a candle. Enjoy your lunch- a lovely gesture.

I thought I would give you an update although it is not the news you hoped for.
I fetched my H out of hospital yesterday, I couldn't leave him there any longer, he was losing more of himself everyday and the nursing staff knew it.
I had a meeting with a SW on Thursday and she said we would have to have a financial assessment first.
As there is no question we would and could pay I couldn't see why.
She said "it could take forever".
I slept ( or not) on it and my S and I decided we would have him here with us.
He doesn't know anyone but me and my S.
I have managed the first shower this morning and we did ok.
He has slept a lot of the time since.
His appetite is as good as ever, especially biscuits and chocolate. He is back on a walker, his mobility is not good.
I will keep in touch.

Oh, ann! Of course you wanted him home because of his condition. The SW sounds a bit dim. Why would an assessment take forever? What use is some thing that takes forever? Can you rope your GP in to give some kicks up bums for getting your DH the care he needs and you getting the help you need?

Glad you have your DH home ann where he will feel comfortable and do hope you are able to get the help you need, sooner rather than later.
I think you all need to come to the Argy for a restorative and medicinal tot or two.

I'm sure that we can all understand your decision and just hope you access all the help you need. You know we worry about you. As you are willing to pay, you can get a list of Private Care Agencies via Alzheimer's Society and, I imagine, Age Uk. For a fee you can even get someone to sort it out for you. I can let you have the names of some of those companies if it would help.

Baggs, I hope your hand is still behaving as expected. Burns on the hand really restrict one, don't they.

I am off to a flower arranging course this afternoon, bought for my birthday by some of my children. I'd rather be at home as Bertie is back in hospital with another 'asthma' attack and we/DH has Persie with possibly an overnight stay. We were meant to be meeting my brother and SiL for dinner but had to cancel that.

I’m afraid to say I have to join the ranks of the walking wounded!
Trying to check dates of items in the fridge, I inadvertently caught the back of my wrist on the underside of a shelf. I have very thin and fragile skin and managed to deglove a large area of skin exposing tendons and veins!
Now dressing with opsite so I can still shower! Bloody sore as well!
Stupid me!

Lona, sorry about your dental experience - did you treat her to a 'stare'?

I recently had to have a tooth removed. My teeth went downhill when I stopped sleeping with my dentist!!!

Galen I should not need to tell you to keep that hand elevated- it sounds really nasty- does it not need more assistance than what you could do at home?

Baggs ditto for you, please keep it elevated and soop whenever you rest at home the latest injured leg should be elevated.

If the three of you lived closer it would be easy to care for you but as each has decided to live miles away there is little I can do except nag.
Ann definitely not what we were expecting to hear- very very difficult for you. I cannot believe that SW either.
