My first wedding ring was so pretty, 18 carat gold with three tiny, inlaid diamonds. After 20 or so years two of the diamonds fell out so it was replaced with a Russian wedding ring of three different types of gold. At some point this ring went missing, much to my dismay because I do take my rings off at night and if I'm doing a mucky job. Last year, having moved house, I was clearing the garage of unwanted furniture including an old linen basket/container which had an internal cloth insert. I detached the latter because it was on its way to the recycling centre. At the bottom of the container was my ring, jammed in a couple of slats. I was so pleased to recover it and now rarely take it off, it feels very special. I never had an engagement ring, I'd love an eternity ring but haven't managed to engineer my way to one yet! My mother wore her wedding ring all her life and widowhood and asked to be buried with it.
