Your wedding ring

I didn’t take mine off for about 35 years, then I had a problem with my hand and it became very swollen one nigh. DH had to cut it off with a hacksaw ! I had it made larger along with my engagement ring. Now they are both looser as I have lost weight. These days I always take mine off at night and occasionally forget to wear it. Rings are about the only jewellery that I wear so I feel ‘naked ‘ if I forget .

Mines a wide 22ct band, also 70s era. I do take it off occasionally as I developed ‘wedding ring’ eczema.
It starts with the itching others describe and took months to go. I had to have my wedding ring, eternity ring and engagement ring sterilised.
Not wearing the wide ring all the time helps avoid reoccurrence.

I had mine cut off after catching in on a nail in a bannister that damaged the ring and my finger,my knuckle has never gone back to the same size ,so I have one we bought then about 5 years ago though the original is in my jewellery box.It had worn quite thin which could have been why it buckled so badly when it caught .Always wear, it always did .

A bit like Greyduster, but I did actually lose my first 22ct, wedding ring whilst shaking out straw for the rabbits hutch. So we went along to the jewellers, children in tow, and bought a replacement, 9ct. one. This eventually got too tight, and I had it cut off. Some time ago I took several pieces of old gold to a jewellers and sold the lot for what I thought was a lot of money. These days I wear my mother's eternity ring as a wedding ring, but now I really prefer silver. My engagement ring rarely gets an outing, but will go to our daughter in due course.

I still wear my original plain gold band. I think I would find it difficult to take off after 53 years. I lost my engagement ring many years ago but I am always looking for a similar one.

I wear my wedding and engagement rings all the time and have had to have the setting on my engagement ring built up as it was getting precariously thin.

Do your husbands wear rings?

Dh does. Maybe he shouldn't as he got amalgam on it and had to have it polished off!

My ring cost £9 and his matching one cost £16.

DH has a ring. He didn’t want a plain band so he had a signet type ring instead.

I stopped wearing mine a year after my husband died, I lost weight and it kept slipping off. He had it made for me from Welsh gold because I wouldn't wear gold for fear it came from S.A. So it couldn't be replaced.

Not meaning to be rude, but what's the point of having a ring if you don't wear it (unless, of course, you're divorced or a widow)?

After he died I had the wedding ring my 1st husband gave me and my mothers wedding ring made into 1 ring which I wear on my right hand! The ring my DH gave me on our marriage never comes off! My 1st engagement ring I gave to my daughter .

I lost mine about 20 years ago, it must have slipped off and I didn’t notice.We went to buy a new one and the jeweller recommended a ‘court’ style wedding ring as they are more comfortable.It’s lovely and so comfy I forget am wearing a ring at all.I will always wear it, even if widowed.
At times I have taken my ring off, in hospital etc.

Never take mine off, have worn it for nearly 42 years and nothing could or would replace it.

Its more than about the ring - its a memory of the day we married and the vows we made so if I lost it I would simply go without as no new ring could contain that same meaning for me.

I've never taken mine off. Next month it will be 36 years since our wedding day. I couldn't wear gold, so my ring is platinum, as is my engagement ring and eternity ring. I only wear those on special occasions now.

I’m relieved t read that others don’t wear their wedding rings either.

I can't get my ring off nowadays but always wore it anyway. Conversely, I can't get my engagement ring on so never wear it, which makes me a bit sad.

My Dh always wore his ring until a few months ago when arthritis meant he could no longer get it on and off. He always took it off at night as he gets psoriasis.

My mother lost her ring in her own kitchen a couple of year ago. It flew off her finger as she got something out of the microwave and despite extensive searches of her tiny galley kitchen it had never reappeared. It was a beautiful Welsh gold ring and still looked wonderful despite it being over 65 years old.

My husband died at the age of 45, and I took off my wedding ring after two years. This was in part because I didn't want to give the wrong signals to any new men I might meet! 12 years on, I'm thinking of putting it on again to protect me from some of those men (and also because I still love my husband and think about him every day).

Never taken mine off in 35 years and would have difficulty getting it over my knuckle. It's a narrow plain band in cheap 9ct gold and has worn it's own groove in my finger. I take my other rings off when I play sport but always carry them with me as I had my original engagement ring stolen.
DH has never worn his matching wedding ring because of his eczema, perhaps I should try that one on.

I have never worn mine since the day I had it placed on my finger. I used to live in the same village as Kitty Lester and I got some very funny looks and unpleasant remarks when I used the bus to get into town either pregnant or carrying one of my three children in the 1970's. Never bothered me though. I hate the feel of a ring on my finger.

I have a plain gold wedding ring which cost £5 in 1966 and has never been off my finger.

When I married in 1967 I had a broad gold band, thirty years ago I had it made larger and some taken off the width. I take the ring off every night and when I am doing housework because I know someone who lost their finger while cleaning windows.
DH has bought me three more wedding bands in the last 50 years and I like to have a change now and then.

My wedding ring was a broad 70's band, but I got it enlarged and made into a narrower one.
My engagement ring had to be frequently repaired as it had a high setting. The last time it couldn't be repaired so my husband paid for it to be remodelled into an art deco style. I love it.

Havent worn mine for 45yrs, just don't like wearing rings, love earrings though..maybe should have had two wedding rings made into earrings

I take mine off Monday to Friday along with my other bits of jewellery and put it back at the weekends .

Kitty the ‘court style’ can be any width but is of a slightly curved shape all round the ring, no sharp edges to dig in, and I really recommend it.
