Dreams that have passed you by?

Stella1949 what a wonderful attitude you have.

My dreams were to see my grandchildren reach adulthood, be happy in their careers and as happy in their relationships as I have been. Sadly, we have been excluded from the weddings of the two eldest granddaughters and never met their husbands. It is also unlikely that we will ever meet our first great-grandson, born on New Year’s Eve 2017, but we have three more grandchildren in our lives for which we are very thankful and have the same dreams for them.

I've always wanted to go on a cruise, but DH never fancied one. Also a trip to New Zealand is on my list. Sadly DHs bad health would not allow travel now even if he was willing, so don't suppose I will ever achieve either dream.

When I was a child I was a very good figure skater. Our local park has a huge pond and it froze over. We all went skating on it. We enjoyed but it wasn’t like the ice rink. It had little lumps in it and was a pretty rough surface because there was no machine brushing the ice.
Cut it 50 years later and Dancing On Ice inspired me to go skating on our nearest rink. I’d lost the ability to do figure skating but was getting better and better at just skating around until my left leg, where I had pretty sever osteoarthritis, did not folllow through as quickly as my right leg it finished with me doing the kind of action that a man slipping on a banana peel would do. There was a mighty crack heard at the other side of the rink. I was briefly unconscious and had to be stretchered off the rink. I had concussion and a huge lump at the back of my head. My family forbids me to try skating again even though I have a new hip now. It’s a shame because I’m convinced I could do better now. Lol. Keep your dream as a dream it could be that that would be safer!!

Look at Bamboo tours for over 50s Called young at heart. Small groups, mostly single women or women who’s husbands don’t like to travel. It is inspirational. There is also a Facebook page with peoples travel stories.

I have made a bucket list of all my life’s dreams and am slowly but surely working my way thro them all ... I hope I manage to tick the last box before I kick that bucket !

I had a dream to fly to NY by Concorde. I could afford it so why I did not do this I will never understand.

I would have loved to go to Monaco for an F1 race, no chance now. Likewise my other dream of Whale Watching!

Australia and NZ were my dreams as well tanith
To my chagrin ,most of my friends have been, some several times as they have family there.
Will never happen now
The really sad thing is that my H held most of my dreams back, and now I am in the position of caring for him 24 hours a day, the irony doesn't escape me.

I had a lot of unfulfilled dreams until 15 years ago when I divorced my husband. I realised then, that most of my broken dreams were the result of my trying to keep him happy instead of pursuing my own goals. I made a list of things I'd been putting off ,and I fulfilled every one of them. Then I got a new husband .

I wanted to go to Cambridge (and could have done) but I messed up at school. I have done degrees since but distance learning and missed out on that full time campus based education. I watch University Challenge and dream about what might have been.

Ah yes, the isolation! I learnt to sail (another long held dream) when I was 50. And the absolutely best bit was just me all alone in my little boat in the middle of the water⛵️
I am a total spendthrift though.....

Eglantine For me to fulfil the wild skating dream, it would have to be free - although I have never thought about it before, I now realize that is part of the dream (once a Yorkshire girl, always a Yorkshire girl, not that I have the means to do otherwise even if I wanted! ) Just to be able to get up one day, grab my skates (which I probably couldn't get my ever-spreading feet into these days!), and head for freedom and, if i was lucky, isolation, of that illusive patch of wild ice.

Mine and still is to take a trip ‘downunder’ and drive/fly around for a couple of months but OH doesn’t fly and is now poorly. I still have the dream but it’s becoming more and more unrealistic. Should of done it 10yrs ago.

I wanted to fly to Rio on Concorde. Sadly no Concorde now.

My Dad once said I could have a pony.....never happened!

My dream was to visit Hong Kong. I had a friend whose husband was a pilot, so she often travelled with him on his trips. I loved hearing about her experiences.
Sadly ill health and a husband who doesn't share my dream has put paid to that.

Well none, I'm grateful to say. I think I've had a go at most things that I took a fancy to. With varying degrees of success but at least I could then cross them off the dream list!
Gliding was one. I thought it would be like being a bird soaring noiselessly in the sky. In fact it was very hot, sticky and noisy! I didn't do it again.
Not too late to skate on a lake though. In Sweden you can get Zimmer frames with runners that support you as you skate along!
