Dreams that have passed you by?

I wanted a daughter (but then was delighted with a son). Now have gorgeous GD and GS. (One of each.) Couldn't be more happy!

I wanted to build dry stone walls but felt there was no point telling anyone (not a job for a girl) so off I went to teacher training college, married. had children etc. By the time my life would have allowed me to follow my dream my back was not able to do it. Now I content myself by looking and marvel at the work of others.

I always wanted to buy a plot of land and build a cottage of my own design which I'd design inside and out. I content myself with arranging the interior of my little house to my satisfaction, also the garden.

I always wanted to see Elvis in concert, but he died when I was nineteen, long before I'd managed to save any money to pay for the trip.
Grannybags and Sarahellenwhitney, We flew to New York on Concorde in 1985, having deprived ourselves of everything but necessities for 2 years to save up enough for the fares and hotel.
It was amazing, just a brilliant experience, and made the journey home again seem drab, boring and very, very long!
We have loads of ashtrays, coasters, keyrings, pens, three teddies, glasses etc, all bought as mementoes of our trip.
Concorde was very narrow, for obvious reasons, and the seats were, to be honest, pretty uncomfortable, (and this was in the days when I was still very slim), but the whole experience was wonderful.
I never felt the need to fly on Concorde again, we'd been Supersonic and that was enough for me!
However, that trip did make me fall head over heels in love with New York, and I'm not really a city girl at all, but NY isn't just a city, it's the city!
We haven't been for a couple of years now, and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!

We are living our dream in the country at the moment while health permits but I would love to go on a cruise. DH wont go in a boat or fly so looks like I wouldnt like to go without him so I may have a long wait.

I wanted a bike when I was young. My parents wouldn’t let me have one, so I never learned how to cycle.
Looking at all of our thwarted desires, I’m going to try & find cycling lessons for 70 year olds!

Does anyone else think that the young of today would not believe how we allowed our dreams to be thwarted by husbands and parents?
I am so pleased my C and GC are growing up in a more equal world, although it is far from perfect yet.
My D of52 has had to separate to realise she can achieve her ambitions.

I was feeling quite contended till I started reading this thread and now I've got itchy feet!!

I don't think any dreams have passed me by although I'm sure at one point in my young life I might have dreamed about being rich and famous.

I wanted a pony but couldn't have one because we were always on the move so I married a farmer....Sorted!

I always wanted to live in the country with happy children, animals, garden....Ticked that box.

I had no desire to travel much as an adult (did enough of that as a child) other than holidays so no lost dreams there.

I've been very lucky so these days I just hope our health will hold out.

And dream about winning the lottery

When I was young I decided I'd win Wimbledon one day. Fifty years on it's still my intention... it's just a case of finding the time.

I have wanted to go to New Zealand for as long as I can remember and in 2009 I went and it was everything I expected it to be.

Riding in a race on my own horse, came very close.

I longed to go to ballet classes but parents said they couldn’t afford it. All I got were aome pink ballet shoes and I used to dance in the window hoping to be siscovered. 40 years on my DD won a scholarship to London Contemp Dance School. Her DD, my GD, at 10 does a lot of dance and tonight is her opening night as Macduff’s daughter in Macbeth at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. I shall ‘see’ her (from the gods) on Easter Monday and, hopefully have a closer view, at Live screening at the cinema on 4 April. So, I kind of got my dream without the painful joints. I’m content.
