Please bear with me if I ramble but I would love to know what you all would do in my situation.
I am in my 60’s and until two years ago I had a very close friend of 10 years . We worked together and even went on holiday . She was like a sister . To cut a long story short I was bullied at work by a colleague over a number of years snd then 3 years ago I discovered my “friend” had been giving all my private stuff to the bully , I ended up having a heart attack and decided to leave work snd my friend behind.
A few months later I let her back into my life and tlshe betrayed my trust again . I cut her off completely and have taken the time to rebuild my life, including overcoming cancer ,albeit I don’t allow anyone to get close to me anymore.
On Saturday I received a text from this friend saying she missed me and was sorry , I ignored her ,she then sent her partner round asking if I would see her.
Part of me wants to ignore her, part of me wants to tell her how hirt I feel and yet I miss her as well although I could never trust her again . DH thinks I am mad to even consider it

The same rule applies to this situation as to other relationships. Remember why it ended in the first place and don’t go back. You will only get hurt again.

bikergran Wed 21-Mar-18 07:59:25

Get rid..she had two chances and betrayed you..no doubt as others have said she now has a guilty conscience ..well tuff!

It could be she wants to gain even more info of your life to betray you yet again...

If it makes you feel better rather than just ignoring her, then write her a letter telling her how you have felt and that you do not wish to re kindle anything that wasn't there in the first place. don't let her take you for a ride a 3rd time.. Its her ! loss not yours.

Stick with GN and genuine virtual friends (maybe look at any meets in your area) smile look towards making new friends smile
Hope you can find some closure

'She sent her husband round' She is a bully trying to guilt trip you into having her back in your life. Tell them both to f**k off............

Why would you even consider it, be kinder to yourself.

nipsmum Wed 21-Mar-18 09:31:34

No. She needs to be out of your life. To be betrayed twice by the same person is once too many in my book. You can't trust her ever again. Don't even communicate brought a third party. No one needs friends like that.

Pamaga Wed 21-Mar-18 09:32:09

I agree with your DH and with merlotgran. What she needs to do involves sex and travel!

Jaycee5 Wed 21-Mar-18 09:39:57

She doesn't know how to be a friend. She would probably be on best behaviour for a while but you would just be waiting for her to revert to form.
It is a shame because people leave a space even if they have let you down but you have a caring husband who understands the situation. I let a bully back into my life (enablers are just as bad if not worse) and I regretted it. Unless you have good reason to believe that she has changed, you need to protect yourself.

Eleanor Roosevelt said “If someone betrays you once, it’s their fault; if they betray you twice, it’s your fault.” Enough said!

Lolly69 Wed 21-Mar-18 09:43:04

Totally agree with everybody here - 2 chances is one to many, she needs you but you don’t need her.

antheacarol55 Wed 21-Mar-18 09:44:27

She is no friend at all she is a nasty piece of work.
I think the reason she is trying to get back into your life is no one else wants her in theirs .
She is false do not risk it she is playing you .
I hope you find a true friend but please don’t bother with her I can see only heartache and more betrayal

knspol Wed 21-Mar-18 09:45:14

She's betrayed you once, you gave her a second chance. She betrayed you again. Why are you even considering this??? Your husband is right!!!

LynneB59 Wed 21-Mar-18 09:45:34

If it were me, I'd send a text back saying I never want to hear from her again, and then block her number.

She must have a need for you now - perhaps something bad has happened in her life. That's her problem. She doesn't deserve you.

jessycake Wed 21-Mar-18 09:46:19

Ignore her , she thrives on putting you down and undermining you to cover her own insecurities . Even if she is ill ,you don't need it in your life , she wasn't there for you. You are missing what you wanted it to be , and really never was x.

theresacoo Wed 21-Mar-18 09:48:11

She feels bad and by getting your forgiveness she can absolve herself.
You deserve better.

luluaugust Wed 21-Mar-18 09:48:39

I have a friend who got into a similar situation so I know something of what went on, you can't let her back in just try to remember how you felt when you found out specially the second time, you mustn't let yourself go through anything like that again, her turn to feel the pain and she knows why.

Madgran77 Wed 21-Mar-18 09:49:39

*ruthiek" I suspect she gets a power kick from being confided in (being the "special one") and another one from telling others ("I'm the one in the know!) Please don't give her that pleasure again, you deserve better! flowers

Harris27 Wed 21-Mar-18 09:51:25

Your better off without her. She's only going to cause you heartache and no true friend would have done that to you. I would rather be on my own than have her in my life. You were ill and came through that without her don't give her another chance . Wish you well.

Alidoll Wed 21-Mar-18 09:54:12

I’d guess she has some kind of drama in her life (diagnosis of illness or family crisis) and wants to offload her issues on someone else - that being you. People like that rarely care about the other person so I’m with your husband on this, ignore / block and enjoy life without her.

hopstone Wed 21-Mar-18 09:57:53

I totally agree with you jessycake.

Hattiehelga Wed 21-Mar-18 10:12:45

I think what she misses is her sport of making your life miserable. Summon up all your courage and either text or phone her to say you are happy with your life without her and you don't want any further contact then forget her and totally ignore any further contact from her.

Coconut Wed 21-Mar-18 10:14:47

If she was analysed it would probably show that deep down she really envies you, as why else would she try to bring you down... twice. However, that is her problem not yours. You are clearly a very sensitive soul which clearly she knows, that’s why she is now trying to tug on your heart strings.
No sort of friendship could blossom now when you would have to think about everything that you said to her, in case she used it against you, again. I agree with all the others, you just do not need that negativity and nastiness in your life ?

vintageclassics Wed 21-Mar-18 10:17:41

Good Grief - don't let this woman within a mile of you! Go make new friends and leave this appalling woman to rot - she doesn't deserve a second thought let alone a third chance! Park her in a box marked PANDORA and never open it again - who needs "friends" like her - Good luck with the rest of your life - find people with similar interests and don't look back

Apricity Wed 21-Mar-18 10:18:14

Ruthiek, so much much good advice already posted here. Actions always speak louder than words. Your husband is right and obviously caring and insightful. There are some people you just need to let go. You have already survived a heart attack and cancer, you do not need this toxic person in your life. It's fine to recall the good times you had (or thought you had!) with this person but it's over.

Maybe some hard lessons learnt and an opportunity to reflect on what there was, and perhaps still is, about this person that still appeals to you despite all the betrayals. ?

Marion58 Wed 21-Mar-18 10:21:04

Go with your DH - on this occasion !!

Blinko Wed 21-Mar-18 10:28:13

ruthiek there's some very sound advice on here. I wouldn't disagree with any of it. You deserve better flowers

Mary59nana Wed 21-Mar-18 10:28:14

Have had the same done to me in the past
So now I’m at a age where Iv learnt many a lesson
And one is you don’t need bad friends in your life
They drag you down and make you ill all for them to enjoy the outcome
Do no would be my answer
