We’re snowed in!!

I wish I had bought wellies now.

No snow yet in my corner of heaven Devon. No doubt it will come.

The snow reaches to my knees and a little bit over in places. When DD took DGS age 5 to Sainsbury's this afternoon the snow reached his waist! He wasn't impressed. We had a visit this evening from DD and the three older GC who were just out for a walk. Snow had invaded GS age 7's Welly boots. His sock was wet so he went off home again wearing one of my odd socks with his wet one in his pocket.

lemongrove, I wish I had Wellington boots too. The only boots I possess have multi coloured fabric from foot to knee. Not suitable for this weather.

They breed ‘em hard where you live hilda......your DD and DGD were just out for a walk?
I have leather boots but for ‘real snow’ you must have wellies, and I will definitely buy some for next year ( I say that every year!)

Yes lemongrove, they love a night walk and had a great time creating lots of footprints/channels in the snow around our house. The young don't feel the cold.

Apparently (according to DH) I wished this weather on us when I asked for posh wellies for Christmas. Santa Claus did his bit, but I have been moaning I never got chance to try them out . Be careful what you wish for. Sorry folks.

I m in the east just by the sea and it’s as cold as I can ever imagine, it’s been snowing on and off all day all schools closed, buses and trains off and roads shut in places lorries couldn’t go up the slight inclines, lots of jack knifing and skidded vehicles
I went to work it’s only down the road Daughter walked about two miles to get to her work My other daughter is snowed in in Ireland and it rarely if ever snows there
I too, like other posters, have a hair cut day tomorrow

We're not snowed in, but have lots of snow. I can't do without fresh air so went for a walk at lunchtime and it was lovely to plant my fake Uggs where no man - or woman, or dog - had set foot all day. Came home all aglow with a very attractive bright red nose and rosy cheeks. I was supposed to be hosting my reading group tonight, but one by one they all dropped out at the last minute. DH had already been banished to the pub to watch football, so I have spent the evening all dressed up and nowhere to go, scoffing the snacks I'd put out for 8 people, including the caloric chocolate crunch I made earlier. I've left some for DH and resisted the wine.

Looking at some TV stuff about this awful weather, (Cheshire has so far got away lightly ) I can fully see the point about "is your journey really necessary."

Once one vehicle starts to slide or whatever, this affects all other vehicles and everyone ends up stuck.
We are not used to this weather and the extreme cold has made it worse.

I guessed Gillybob would be in a similar situation up in the north east.

There is about 20-30cm of snow here just inland of the north east coast, there are no schools open and there are no buses running.
I am going to a funeral tomorrow but think it will be a bit iffy at the graveside.

Katek my DD makes these octopuses too. DGS was born at 31 weeks and calmed with the octopus. The neonatal nurse gave her the pattern and she has made them since. DGD has one too though she was born at 37 weeks but in neonatal as DD had sepsis. They have been comforting to both DGC and all her friend's babies as well. Do you make these for neonatal units?

Cold north east .my dear mil 's funeral yesterday and the cars weren't going to be able to get up the street so the guys if the street all hit their shovels out and started digging ! It was heartwarming and my mil would of approved so much of that Christian behaviour. We did manage to get to the cream but not many could return afterwards but she's up above now and at peace.❤️

Travel plans for me scuppered as I have just heard the A9 is closed and people have been stranded for 14 hours.

I had planned to drive from Perthshire home to Glasgow for a dental appointment then return back up again. It’s not happening!

Nothing else for it, I have a book on the go, knitting and ingredients to make a few fat balls for our bird restaurant

I do ElaineI along with little hats of varying sizes. My friend had a micro preemie baby girl at 25 weeks weighing only 1lb 3oz and I’ve been making them ever since. That baby is about to turn 5 and start school......fantastic treatment/support from the neonatal unit has made this possible.

Strange less snow than before, but underfoot it really is treacherous. Guess it's the minus temperatures causing the hazard. Don't want to fall so just done the vital bits though i guess black tea wouldn't do me any harm really!

Quite thick snow here, though not actually snowed in. Just not going anywhere other than taking the dogs for a quick walk. According to my phone the temperature here this morning was -4 but with wind chill would feel more like -12. Thanks DH for doing this mornings dog walk, even though he slipped and fell yesterday resulting in a bloody nose but thankfully no more serious injury.

We have a moderate covering of snow here today and everything is very quiet and the sky is a strange colour.
A blizzard is forecast for later. I feel completely isolated.
Luckily I'm well stocked up with food etc.

Probably should put in AIBU but just a quick vent about snow shovelling! We're at the bottom of a steep cul de sac.Everyone very nice and neighbourly.I've been out twice to grit ,and others have shovelled tracks but basically no one is going anywhere today as it's all covered again and worse.Yet again the man from the house diagonally opposite the top of our cul de sac has cleared his very wide drive,and rather than piling snow either side of his drive,still leaving loads of room for a car,has shovelled it across the road and piled a huge amount on the pavement. Now I know the pavements are well and truly covered at the moment, but with freezing conditions for days this will turn into a huge mound of ice.He does it I'm sure because he hates anyone parking there,even though it's a wide road and he can easily swing into his drive.Very occasionally myself or neighbours leave a vehicle at the top if it's very icy and we've absolute got to get out. We pull forward so we aren't directly opposite his drive,or making exiting our cul de sac tricky.More than once he's come out and had a go,and even in good weather I've seen him tell delivery drivers etc not to park there as he can't guarantee he won't hit their vehicle and they should not park there.Just annoyed me as I walked past him on the way to the shop.Fortunately most people out and about seem considerate to others,and looking out for each other.Grr !

DD and I have just returned from a trip to Aldi for urgent supplies......Just in case.

The normally packed car park with ridiculously narrow bays was almost empty so it was a luxury to park across the white lines creating the same space as a disabled one!

The shelves were quite well stocked - apart from the booze aisle. We have our priorities right in the fens!!!!
I asked one of the stackers if there were any boxes of wine out the back (no harm in hoping) He thought about it hard for a while then said, 'Do you mean wine comes in boxes?'

Poor lad has obviously had a sheltered upbringing.
