Gin? Nice or not?

I have about six varieties in my cabinet bought as presents but I don’t really like spirits! I like cider on a day out or sparkling white wine but a nice Merlot is my evening drink.

One glass of alchohol is enough for me, not at all keen on gin, a glass of wine or a double scotch, suits me nicely.

I had gin for the first time in my teens and it wasn’t a good experience, my legs went from under me ? NEVER again.

I went with the WI to visit the Bombay Gin Factory and it was fascinating. We were asked to sip a sample each and unfortunately she asked me what I thought of it and I said ‘It tastes like paint stripper’ fortunately she was not offended and I explained that rum was my drink of choice.

I can honestly say I’ve never tasted Gin but I know my GS enjoys different flavoured Gins.

Having read all the likes and dislikes on here, like food there is very little I don't like.
Any gin goes down well although I think Tanquerey 10 is too expensive but the only real dislike is Campari , give me a dose of cough cure anytime.
Add any sweet wine to that but that is a lifestyle choice, it is horrible.

I Googled gin tasting days and found quite a few here in Scotland, so I think that may be on the cards sometime soon!

I wish I could blame my “unhappy experience” on a mixer, jacq10, but, alas, I can only blame myself ?‍♀️.
DS bought his missus some of those nice gin glasses at Christmas, twice. I like mine from a cut crystal highball tumbler!

I was given Brighton Gin as a gift. Marvellous. Made locally in the Brighton/Hove area. The colouring on the bottle and top are the same turquoise colour of the old Victorian ironrailings along the beach. However, it is very expensive. Ask for it for Christmas!

grannyactivist Me too. I never liked gin though drank pretty much anything else. I made sloe gin once and it was delicious but never did it again. All the younger (adult) members of my family now seem to be drinking flavoured gins so I am being tempted again. There seems to be such a range of attractive taste experiences on offer!

Many moons ago, when asked what I would like to drink, I asked for a martini. I was so clueless, I assumed I was drinking vermouth and had no idea that gin had been added.

Since then I have never touched the stuff. Ugh! I can still remember how ill it made me. Ditto red wine.

I can't stand gin but I don't actually like tonic either! Both daughters love a gin and tonic, they have tried all flavours and the tonic must be Fevertree. I keep a bottle of Tanquery and a little box of baby cans of tonic just for them -- love is!

I drink tonic water sometimes before going to bed because quinine is supposed to stop you getting cramp.

Although I think you can put fever tree mix instead

I am a wee bit concerned about quinine in the tonic. I don't why.. maybe because I associate it with malaria

Like Greduster I had an "unhappy experience" with gin in the 70's. I always blamed the Bitter Lemon which, along with Tonic, was the only mixer on offer but think I might try the taster offer in Morrisons mentioned above.

Rarely have a drink but when I do a G&T hits the spot!

I like Martin Miller’s gin with Fevertree tonic and cucumber.
Jilly Goolden chose it as her favourite, and her second favourite is Aldi’s Oliver Cromwell!

My DiL gave me a bottle of Sloe Ruby at Christmas. It is a blend of gin, sloes and ruby port. Absolutely delicious, made in Yorkshire. What’s not to like? ?

I’ve always let it be known to family and friends that I can’t stand gin - never have and never will!, ‘Tastes like cheap scent.’ was one of my kinder comments.
Last month DD2 handed me a drink to try. It was lovely! She did laugh as she told me what it was. Rhubarb and ginger gin from the Edinburgh Gin Co.
What have I been missing all these years?
I have treated myself to a bottle now.

Well ladies you all have different tastes for gin although bombay sapphire seems to be popular. I definitely will have to try gin asap!
