Things within easy reach

I wonder just how many of us have most things we use often within easy reach of our usual chair? Looking over at hubbys chair ... he has newspaper, specs, pen, tea cup, medicine tablet box. Me... I thought didn't have anything till I looked and saw much the same! Do we really get so lazy as we get older or is it just us two? I remember my mum having everything to hand

Jordana....I don’t consider it laziness just good sense to have things to hand...having just come home from walking 2 miles to the gym...swimming 40 lengths...and walking the 2 miles home vis Sainsbury’s to do bit of shopping I don’t consider myself lazy ,as I sit surrounded by my ‘stuff’.

Elrel - a woman after my own heart. I must remember that carrier back tactic!

I guess hubby and I are not alone then in keeping things within easy reach of "our" chairs and not lazy either. Which brings me to another question - if you have your own chair, can you take a moment to observe if it faces a door or window? I read an article ages ago where a psychologist states that a woman sits where she can either face a door or window. Reason being that she looks for a means of escape for her and the family if danger is imminent

Not quite the same thing, but I have devised a useful improvement.
We bought adjustable beds, but they bring you forward when you sit up, and put the bedside cabinet out of reach.
I got my sil to cut me a piece of board which fits on the inside rim of the top drawer. (Could have done it myself, but didn't have a saw!)
Two strips of beading underneath hold it steady, and it's perfect to hold cups of tea etc.
I use the drawer for medicines which are best kept out of sight, till the lid is lifted.
