Ironing

Nothing wrong with that Singlegrannie. I have several friends who don't do any either.
I however fall into the camp of finding it therapeutic and just love to get the ironing board out! I think I'm the strange one......

A room to do the ironing!
How would you watch the television while you do it?

Me too lindy... I actually like ironing and alway's have. I find it relaxing but realise over the years not many people do. I sometimes don't admit it as most people I know seem to hate it and think I am odd

Singlegrannie I am in the same camp as yourself but I do absolutely zilch. I make sure I hang clothes indoors properly and ditto when the weather is okay to hang outside.

My mother worked full time, had one day off a month even ironed bra straps. She did send all of the cotton sheets etc to the laundry weekly.

I hate doing it but certain things need a press as I don't have a tumble dryer. OH wears shirts each day to work so they get done plus other cottony things. I try to do as little as possible and usually watch tv whilst doing it.

I'm another one who tumbles or puts clothes on hangers to dry. I do however iron my cotton bedlinen because it just looks so lovely that way! I'd much rather be doing something I enjoy, even if it's just going for a walk. And a room just for ironing? Really.....?

I don't iron at all if I can get away with it. I haven't got
a tumble dryer, but try to take care with smoothing things when they come out of the washer.

I am another who does little ironing. I only do my cotton sheets because I like them starched, smooth and cool. While ironing them I watch TV, sometimes Jeremy Kyle. What an eye-opener!

I sometimes iron new clothes that have come straight out of a mail order package and are badly creased. Otherwise, I don’t iron. It really isn’t necessary if you’re careful what you buy and how you wash and dry it.

I have friends for whom ‘doing the ironing’ seems to be an essential part of life. They have never thought of not doing it. I feel sorry for them.

I iron,I dont LIKE it but I like ironed clotes and I'm of a frame of mind that would think I was lazy if I sent it out.I iron bedding as mine is cotton and my OH can sometimes wear 14 shirts in a week .In the dim and distant past when the kids were young and I still worked full time my MIL used to bring her iron and ironing board when she visited and we ironed in tandem ...lol.Now I do my daughters as well as my own and some weeks it 8 bags to do which takes hours ..and some .She has OCD so it has to be perfect and everything is ironed underwear,t towels PJ's in fact the only thing I dont iron for her is her slippers which she washes every week ..

Oh, and another thing. Why aren’t men ironing their own shirts? I taught my boys how to do it (if they wanted to) as soon as they were old enough. It’s the job of whoever wants things ironed. So .lmany women make a rod for their own backs.

Oh Paddyann that is indeed a labour of love. I don't like ironing but I do it. I try to have a good programme on TV whilst I do it. My daughters don't iron apart from school clothes and now the grandchildren are grown up they don't have any. Definitely an age thing.

I used to love ironing all my daughters little knickers and vests. All snowy white and smelling lovely..

Like cleaning I avoid ironing until I feel I have to for whatever reason. Life's too short! Most of my stuff seems to come out of the tumbler OK or just fine if hung over the clothes rail. I do the odd shirt for DH but luckily most of his clothes don't need it either!

I always consider the likelihood of something needing ironing when I buy it.

I m another who doesn’t iron, well very, very rarely everything is hung and doesn’t look creased or if it’s wet outside they re tumble dried and again don’t need it
I ve never ironed bedclothes,towels, underwear etc etc I used to iron school clothes and Ex s shirts but nothing needs doing now

I iron as little as possible, folding and hanging takes care of much of it, but I do iron t-shirts and also pillowslips (not duvet covers) as I like a nice clean ironed pillow.

I LOVE to iron. But since I have nowhere but a tiny closet to hang my clothes, they just get wrinkled again being all smooshed together. So I tend to only iron things just before I wear them.

My husband waited so long for me to iron his clothes that he started ironing them himself. Now he does much more ironing than I do - RESULT. I hate doing it!!

Sometimes I like to iron, other times I don't. It really depends how much there is to do, though now I don't work full time, I can spread it out a bit, so it's not such a chore. I don't iron towels,tea towels (except linen types) or socks, bras, but everything else gets ironed as it makes it easier to store them in the cupboards if they are ironed. ?

I have a rich friend who installed washer,drier and irong board on top floor of her house where her children slept. Once they got to about 15 they were in charge of their laundry! Mine all learnt to iron when they were about 15, why not? I don't mind doing it as long as the pile isn't too large! I iron most things but not underwear socks or towels.

I've never liked ironing and I stopped doing it altogether about 5 years ago. I do make sure I hang everything on the washing line or on an indoor line as soon as the washing cycle is finished, but I find that body heat tends to 'iron' out any small creases. I have also been known to hang creased items in the shower or use an attachment on a steam cleaner, but this is literally once or twice a year. I still have an iron and ironing board at the back of the cupboard 'just in case' but they've not seen the light of day for years!

Love ironed bed linen and I think it’s worth doing for that wonderful smooth sweet smelling fresh bed. My grandmother who had 11 children and precious little luxury in her life called a freshly made up bed “the only free luxury I have”.
On the other hand, my lateMiL used to fold up the sheets and sit on them?
