Which extra room would you like in your house?

My only bathroom is upstairs which is no fun on days when my knees are bad. So I would like a downstairs one as well though goodness knows where I'd put it!

To all those wanting a downstairs loo, please thank God for your upstairs one when you need a wee at 2am and it’s below freezing.

Reading all these makes me realise how lucky we are that we have most of the rooms others crave. We've been here over 30 years and have extended it to it's max allowances out and up over the years so have a large utility room, downstairs loo, large en-suite, small office and conservatory. That said some of the rooms are not really practical. The kitchen is quite small (did have a walk in pantry but put in pull out larder units last year), the living/dining room is very big and open plan so never warm enough and the conservatory is the usual too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter so is never used. We're never satisfied I suppose. It does make the thought of downsizing difficult though!

My son's last pub had a cellar where they rolled the barrels down a slope & they crashed into a padded wall at the bottom. It was a dangerous business! Your posts brought back happy memories of helping out there ?. I'm lucky that I have the separate dining room that so many of you crave but would dearly love a utility for all the dirty jobs, mucky boots etc. And being greedy a downstairs loo would be nice too, especially when we have a full house.

I'd love a downstairs toilet and a Utility for washing the dog, and housing my washer and dryer. I could then swop my washer in the kitchen for a dishwasher.

The pub at rhe top of our road still has barrels droppeding into the cellar and I still forget what the noise is when deliveries arrive.

I have never been good on stairs or steps at the best of times!

Used to be fascinating watching coal tumble down into the cellar,I also liked watching the brewers dray cart delivering the barrels down into the cellar of the pub ( although children got chased away if they saw you, dangerous environment to be in.)

Envious of those with cellars! I live in a very flat area and the house is compact with all amenities within flat walking distance, yes I thought ahead!

I’d like an elegant Georgian drawing room with shutters on the tall windows, polished floorboards with oriental carpets, old masters on the walls, marble fireplace.
Not sure where to put it in my two-up, two-down terraced cottage.

Another bedroom so that people can stay over, a utility room so that I don't have washing hanging up everywhere when it's bad weather. I guess it's not essential but it would make some things much more pleasant.

There was when we moved in back in the 80s, lemongrove! We had a coalman who used to deliver with a horse and cart and tip the sacks-full down the coal chute. Eeee, them were the days, lass!

We have a utility 'passage' - it's a thoroughfare for going into the garden with space to put boots along one wall. On the other wall there is a sink and counter under which is the washing machine and drier and there's a cupboard at the end overflowing with stuff with more stuff in plastic drawer units on the counter so there is no a lot of space [PS: 99% of the stuff is NOT mine ] It's useful but not easy for 2 people to pass each other!!!

I have a wine cellar too, ga! Well, to be precise, I have a cellar, and it’s got wine in it. Does it count if it’s Tesco’s special offers?

Would like a toilet upstairs. Our house 3 bedrooms upstairs then a small sitting room and the bathroom downstairs. It's ok we are used to it but when we are unwell it's an effort to get down the stairs.
Not sure what we will do when we are more infirm.
Would like an extension downstairs so we could have our bedroom on the ground floor.

We have four bedrooms but only one bathroom/toilet. Another one would be good when guests stay.

One of my daughters has a wine cellar!! She stores her luggage in it.

I had my kitchen and dining room knocked into one and the end with the back door nibbled off to create a utility room. It's small, room only for a tall cupboard, two wall cupboards, washing machine, tumble dryer, small sink and the wall hung ch boiler but I love it. No more wet or dirty paws coming straight into the kitchen; no more cold draughts in the kitchen now the back door's not opening out of there for the dogs. The dogs eat in there and their food hoppers are out of the way in the tall cupboard along with the ironing board. My outdoor coat and hat hang on pegs above the tiny radiator so they're always warm and dry. My boots live by the back door. I don't spend much time in there but it's my favourite room!

My marital home had a huge, dry cellar and I miss it so much. I had the laundry room down there and, as the huge boiler was also in there, the washing dried very quickly on wet days when it couldn't be hung outside. All children's parties took place in the cellar and, as there was a loo and shower room too, there was no traipsing of mess throughout the house. What a boon that cellar was <wistful emoticon>

If you buy a house on a hill Moocow, it may have a cellar, MIL's semi had one.
However, I would avoid another house on a hill at my age (you may be much younger than me, of course).

Well, I would like to downsize but when I look at everything that would need to be thrown out I wonder if it's a good idea.
Less cleaning?

I wonder, does anyone ever want a smaller house?
