Which extra room would you like in your house?

I've always wanted a utility/boot/dog room but have never had a house big enough. I've worked in many farms, country houses that had so many facilities and I was always jealous of their rooms, far more than the fancy bedrooms etc. What one room would you like if you could stick it onto where you live now?

A second bedroom please

Yes, a utility room! Had one in the last three houses, and when we downsized to here, didn’t think I would miss it but I do. You can hide all sorts of unsightly things ( junk) there and pet beds etc.

We have a room which is multi purpose, providing access to both the garden and the garage, I dry the washing there, and it also houses my “ study” ie desk, laptop and filing cabinet.
So I would like a study all to myself.

A downstairs loo. (Our house has a shed at the side. Used to be the coal shed. Now part utility/dumping ground. Shall now call it the boot room, sounds much more upmarket).

An en suite. Never thought I’d miss one as much as I do.

Utility Room. I am fortunate, I have a large and roomy house, but I don't have UR, all our previous houses had one and I miss it.

We had a utility room built on a couple of years after we moved into our house - it is one of the best things we ever did to the house.
The dog, however, slept in the kitchen as I thought the utility room could be a bit cold for him smile.

Although, I probably could not do without the downstairs loo.

Oh yes a utility room would be fab. I’ve got a tiny kitchen but lucky enough to have a walk in pantry.

Study/play room/ hobby room
Have tried to convince DH that we could convert the junk room garage,
but at present it's home to the motorbike
and crap

Gilly I would love a walk in pantryenvy

a walk-in pantry - I'd love one of those.
Now, if I split the utility room in two hmm

We could do with a boot room as we have a lot of boots! Our kitchen is big enough for all the doggy stuff but I'd love a separate room where I could shut them up when they're muddy.

One of my neighbours has knocked theirs out to create a bigger kitchen but DH shelved mine from top to bottom and it’s ideal for storing just about everything. smile

Can I be greedy and ask for two rooms?

I'd love a huge, well-lit walk-in closet. I don't have a ton of clothes but what I do have are crammed into a tiny closet in my bedroom. I'd love to be able to see my things neatly hung up or folded, on open shelves, with room for shoes and boots.

Would also like a separate laundry room with space to iron and fold clothes.

I'd just like to put muddy dog somewhere for a short while until I've got my boots and coat off as I have to grab him in the hall with a towel and try and preserve our newly decorated hall and kitchen if I come in back door. Also husband has so many boots, walking, heavy walking, work, trainers, cricket spikes, chainsaw boots, steel toes non steel toes as well as coats for every outdoor activity, it looks like there are ten of us living here.

An old-fashioned dining room, just for when we have friends round for a meal, or the family. We've a big kitchen, but shoehorning 8 adults and 4 children into it for a meal is a bit of a challenge.

I have always wanted a utility room, where I can hide all sorts of things!
We have just had the plans approved for one, along with extending our downstairs loo and changing it into a disabled friendly shower room, as I'm becoming less mobile and struggling to get in and out of the bath.

Oh would love some sort of sunroom/orangery..we have superb views as far as Cheshire&Wales, would love to sit inside and view it when it's cold.....but just have to stand at the kitchen sink haha..

Greyduster Sun 04-Feb-18 20:00:18

A bigger utility room!

kittylester Sun 04-Feb-18 20:02:41

I'd love a pantry - we have a big cold cupboard but it's not the same!

Menopaws Sun 04-Feb-18 20:09:44

Ah yes but I think I will cheat too as in this magnificent utility room it will house the boiler so create a drying room and there will be space to do laundry and iron and also it would be off the kitchen so would build a walk in larder as well!
I knew a farm with all this plus acres of sink area, work surfaces and loads of cupboards but I'm not kidding when I say this one room was easily as big as my ground floor here!

A garage. I do have a garage but it's still full of my ex's stuff [he left over 15 years ago]. Lathes/tools etc. I want the garage back so I have room to do my upcycling etc.

I’d love a second bathroom. There are two loos, but two proper bathrooms would be nice.

Could I ask for a proper dining room? Not the pokey dining/kitchen that I currently have; where we have to sit and eat meals amongst all the detritus of cooking pots and pans. Big enough to sit 6 comfortably and also have a lovely dresser filled with my good dinner service.
