We went to view a house recently. A modest house in a non posh area. The Estate Agent seemed perplexed that we were moving from 'posh village' to the one we were viewing.

Instead of talking up the area she was saying things like 'why would you move from 'posh village' to here?' in an astonished tone of voice. It was very funny.

According to the test I am a ‘U’. However, I know the rules and the lingo but do and say as I like.

I was considered so as I had my parents' southern accent at school in the north-east. It didn't take too long to fit in & when yelling the name of my best friend up the lane - "His name's not Tawny like an owl, his name is Tony!"- was my mother's exasperated cry.

JRM definitely posh, but annoyingly so. I much prefer it to be less obvious. I didn't know about Eddie Redmayne was posh until I saw him on Graham Norton.

JRM’s daughter has a perfectly ordinary name, unlike his sons. She’s called Mary Anne Charlotte Emma. Having so many names is a bit posh, though.

When I was younger, the joke was that posh people got out of the bath to wee! So we were definitely posh then, in my house.
