Starting this because I don't want to spoil a thread which asks a question on the changing of the end of an opera ,

It you could change the end of a film or book which has a female the victim of a male what would you change ?

Oh no, Laurie and Jo are totally unsuited to each other. The marriage would have been a disaster. Anyway he marries Amy and Jo marries Professor Bhaer, so it all ends happily anyway.
