'Here we are again
Happy as can be
All good pals and jolly good company.
Never mind the weather
Never mind the rain
As long as we're together...
Woops we go again.

WELCOME. Make yourselves at home. flowers

Just popping in to see how everyone is before we are invaded by dgc.

Ann, it's really scary how quickly an infection changes things, albeit temporarily, but do take the advice, and any help, offered.

Maw, just allow this bug to run its course. As someone up thread said, we tend to get ill when we allow ourselves to relax - DH always had a cold during the first week of any holiday.

Charley you'll be looking youthful very soon then.grin

Back later - possibly.

harrigran Tue 13-Feb-18 07:31:17

Just popped in to add my best wishes to Maw and to Ann, get as much rest as you can.

NanaandGrampy Tue 13-Feb-18 09:11:00

Morning all!

Calm before the storm here! How can one small girl cause so much mess?? Best thing is that she sleeps for England so no early starts!!

Hope you’re feeling just a tiny bit better today Maw , sounds like a nasty bug. My daughter recommended pineapple juice for the cough , it might help a little.

Hope you got a good sleep * Ann* , I think you’ve been given some excellent advice , I hope some of it can be of use.

I went to look at the proposals for development at the road show yesterday and made my issues known. Amazingly , of the 30 houses I dropped a note in , over half rang me in support including the councils ecologist !! He gave me some very sound advice!

Phase 2 will commence ( if I survive the 3 small boys stay) after the half term when I am starting a petition and my local councillors will get to know me lol !!

Anyway, we are off on a shopping expedition this morning ( Grampy is taking a book and we will abandon him somewhere) , then pancakes and packing as we return the Queen of the Universe home tomorrow and collect the little boys!

Wish me luck !

cornergran Tue 13-Feb-18 09:47:08

Hope today brings better news ann and you had a good sleep. You too, maw, lots of sleep helps if the cough lets you that is.

Delighted you aren't alone in your concerns n&g, the ecologist sounds a supporter to nurture. Enjoy the invasion of the little boys, it will be different that's for sure.

Well, I was up early in case the 7am to 1pm furniture delivery slot meant 7am was a possibility. Just had a call, we can expect it at 12. Have I made good use of the time? Well, no actually, been mouldering as my Dad used to say. Mr C is struggling, stuck neck again, so little happening here.

Stay warm, dry and well everyone. Take care.

annsixty Tue 13-Feb-18 10:06:13

Good morning all.
I have not been able to get in touch with the dept my H was on last night in spite of ring every few minutes, just a recorded message , try later, so I don't know if he is on a ward yet.
He was slightly brighter last night, but the situation is quite blizzard.
He went in to be checked over after a fall, then a UTI picked up.
While I was there last night an Orthapaedic Surgeon appeared, H had been sent to X-ray by the physio to get his knees checked, he has never complained about them.
He has arthritis now in both knees and the surgeon disappeared and came back with needles and syringes and drained both knees of a fair amount of fluid.
This will now be tested for infection.
He is certainly getting his moneysworth from the NHS.
I slept quite well and am birding my loins for another day of visiting and perhaps more surprises.

annsixty Tue 13-Feb-18 10:07:14

Auto correct , no blizzards, just bizzare.

annodomini Tue 13-Feb-18 10:21:45

It's outrageous that nobody was answering the phone, ann. I suppose they are, as ever, short-staffed, but still... You could contact PALS about this, but in the past I've found them about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Hope you find him continuing to improve today.

Lona Tue 13-Feb-18 11:05:01

ann60 Just wanted to send my best wishes, I hope, at the very least, some help for you is organised before your dh is sent home.
Whatever the outcome, you've done your best for him flowers
Maw I hope you're feeling better today, make sure you rest as much as you can. I'm ten days into this horrible virus, and I'm still feeling exhausted! flowers

jollyg Tue 13-Feb-18 11:25:19

Ann I LOVE birding your loins!!.

does that include budgie smugglers?

Hope himself is fine soon, Summer is a coming in, and the mornings are cheering up, next clocks changing

Auto correct is a pain

annsixty Tue 13-Feb-18 11:46:53

Finally I rang the main switchboard who put me through to medical records, he is still basically in A&E, I was put through and spoke to a real snotty cow who told me that because he now actually has a bed he is no longer a priority.
I asked when I could speak to a Dr I was told I can't!!!

I told her while he is staring at a curtain he is getting worse and I am losing him to his Alzheimer's.
She couldn't have cared less.
My very feisty ex Di L is coming with me this afternoon. She will knock heads.
For the first time in years I have been unable to stop weeping, tears of both sadness and extreme anger.

Jalima1108 Tue 13-Feb-18 11:53:09

Oh dear annsixty, that is all you need right now, someone like that who really should be pulled up short for her attitude to worried relatives. I hope your feisty DIL will do that and get some answers for you this afternoon.

annsixty Tue 13-Feb-18 11:59:31

Son also going with me this evening.

grannyqueenie Tue 13-Feb-18 12:29:46

Just nipped in to see if there’s news of Ann, almost couldn’t believe what you'd written. My heart aches for you, to be spoken to like that in such circumstances is awful. I hope your dil is able to help you get some real answers this afternoon. Stay strong x

Charleygirl Tue 13-Feb-18 12:34:37

Ann I am so sorry to hear of your horrendous experience. I only hope that H is being treated properly there. I suppose at least he is in a bed and not stuck on a trolley-he will be frightened because he will not be aware of where or why he is there and there is not a familiar face.

I do hope that your D in L does knock some heads together. They cannot "magic" a ward bed but kindness and common decency goes a long way.

Greyduster Tue 13-Feb-18 13:05:59

I can’t believe their attitude towards you is so shabby Ann. I hope your DiL shakes them up enough for them to at least extend you some common courtesy. If not I would be writing to the hospital Medical Director and letting him know you aren’t happy!

annodomini Tue 13-Feb-18 13:09:25

Just occurred to me that Age UK might be able to provide advice and advocacy in this miserable situation.

soop Tue 13-Feb-18 13:24:09

A warm welcome to MissAdventure We've had a delivery of comfy chairs. I've placed yours beside the Aga. It's cosy there.

Marydoll hmm Are you referring to the full bottle, or the wee dram? Either or...I cannot account for the disappearance. If you like, I'll count the bottles tucked away under the sink. Some contain useful stuff like handwash cordials. Others are deemed too good to consume. Your malt have been placed there for safe keeping. wink

soop Tue 13-Feb-18 13:34:09

ann Thank goodness that you will have company when you next visit your husband. To be spoken to so rudely, was unforgiveable. A lesson needs to be taught to the nurse regarding appropriate language when dealing with the stressed out partner of a patient. Kindness makes a world of difference. flowers

Maw The very nasty flu bug has gone away. Some of the residents in the care home have it. One member of staff looked ghastly. She cannot take more time off and is struggling to keep abreast of all the tasks demanded of her.

soop Tue 13-Feb-18 13:39:43

Every self-respecting Nana loves a shopping expedition together with her grand daughter. Every self-respecting Grampy much prefers to be abandoned in a coffee shop together with a good book. grin

MawBroon Tue 13-Feb-18 14:11:20

Fro my experience last year with Paw you need to keep on at them, prepare a written account of the shortcomings you are witnessing and take it to the Ward Sister. You don’t need to make it an “official” complaint at this stage, be pleasant but firm and say that your point is to prevent these failures happening again. In other words, give them some wriggle room and keep them on side if you can.
Ask precisely WHY you could not speak to a doctor and if it was down to timing ask for an appointment with the consultant at a time he/she can be available.
Geriatric wards (medical) can be awful places, just dumping grounds, but a good gerontologist will also have an overview of the different departments involved in Mr Sixty’s care.
Going in all guns blazing can be counterproductive, but just make sure they know you know what’s what.

soop Tue 13-Feb-18 15:28:50

Well said, Maw. I've a feeling that ann's son will put the record straight.

I managed to show off the baby photo to anyone who sat still long enough for me to trap them. Lots of oohs and ahhs. One elderly gentleman said that he thought Lauren, our granddaughter, was me. I ask you! I was flattered but had to own up to being fifty years her senior. It was good whilst it lasted. wink

Thankfully we've been spared the deep snow that was forecast. The most we've experienced melted the moment it hit the ground.

I've decided that I wish to train as an ice skater. Tessa Virtue and Scot Moir who represent Canada at the games, have turned my head. Okay! I'm allowed to dream. Best not, and say I did. As one boyfriend used to say way back in the mists of time.

soop Tue 13-Feb-18 15:42:43

No snow here. MacSporran took the photo a short time ago. A snow fall over the sea.

MissAdventure Tue 13-Feb-18 15:45:08

Thank you soop smile
I might rest awhile by the aga..

cornergran Tue 13-Feb-18 17:29:20

Evening All. Furniture arrived at about 11.30, oh well, I survived an early start but somehow got little done.

You’ve had good advice here ann, I’m so relieved you have support for your visits today but am appalled at the telephone response this morning. Nothing excuses that lack of care.

I have serious dog envy. A friend has just adopted an eight year old Pomeranian. Looks like a little fox and is impeccably behaved other than a desire to sit very close to anyone on the sofa. Our friend doesn’t mind, Mr C would be horrified as his view is a dogs place is on the floor. Ours understood and only snuck up for a cuddle when the coast was clear. The mini fox is off to the vet for re-chipping and an MoT, I hope he’s as healthy as he looks otherwise she will be devastated. I am to be allowed to walk him when she’s having a not so good day, result smile.

Could you be a virtual ice skater soop? I don’t know how those virtual reality head sets work but it could be fun. I’ve always wanted to sky dive and still look at the charity events, those around me seem to think otherwise.

Can I join you miss a? Could do with a quiet sit down, been re-arranging ‘stuff’ now we have different storage. It was fun for about 10 minutes. Mr C is incapacitated so at least I could mutter away to myself.

Stay warm and well everyone, thinking of you ann.

soop Tue 13-Feb-18 17:35:42

MissAdventure Although I do not have an Aga in my real kitchen, it's good to imagine one in the virtual kitchen. Likewise the cupcake and all manner of other stuff that I should avoid. Macsporran, my husband, is partial to Tesco's mouth watering cookies laced with Belgian chocolate. I have a half of one on special occasions. As it's Valentine's day tomorrow...I shall force myself to nibble on a whole one. Such will power makes my eyes water. wink

Another snow-free day in bonnie Kintyre. It was a decent trip to Campbeltown. Our friend spent time with her husband in the care home. He's been a resident for three years. Alas, he'll never be able to return home, although we still talk about "when you're well again..." I opted to visit one particular lady who was taking "bed rest". On leaving her room I completely lost my way. There were some nice builders working along the maze of corridors. A decent chap took pity on me and escorted me to the lift. There are plenty of decent people out there.

Ironing duties in the morning. I hope to join you all after lunch. Take care of yourselves. Especially ann and Maw. smile moon
