What’s your ‘thing’?

Last year it was vintage glass salt pots to make pincushions from as I couldn’t resist buying them from car boots and charity shops. Now I have so many made into pincushions I don’t know what to do with them! But my background ‘thing’ I find irresistible is fabric! Fabric, fabric, fabric.

Joy I also have a huge (and expensive) amount of photography equipment - cameras, lenses, filters, flashgun, tripod with two different heads. And again, lots of books about photography . I need to sell it all. Then I can buy myself an embroidery machine

Fabrics for quilts and crochet/knitting yarn. I say I need no more but if I see some I like I buy it for later! Terrible addiction.

Like Mollie, notebooks are my thing - have so many and still collecting. I don't write in most of them as they're too beautiful to spoil. Also books to the extent that I have an addiction to Amazon that I really need to curb; and I don't have enough lifetime left in which to read them all!

Stationery and bookshops can make me lose a good couple of hours.Oh,and craft shops too-that's 3 "things" but hey,it's better than collecting expensive shoes I suppose!

Clothes, clothes and yet more clothes!

I'm rather partial to a new flannel. I have quite a lot, all stacked up, but they do get used.

I also didn't think I have a 'thing', until I started reading, but realise I match lots of you on here.
Earrings over 100pairs, scarves over 50, books by favourite authors 250+, vintage blue and white China, vintage blue glass. Then craft stuff, wool, ribbons ect oh and cotton reels 50-60 I guess. I never have to buy one when I have a sewing bug as I already have the colour I need!

I have a question for us 'collectors', is it because we didn't have much in our childhood in the post war years, that now we hoard?

I don't buy very much at all now that I have retired and the DH has been made redundant but I read all the time so book bargains are irrisistible. I skim the charity shops and also read reviews and order the books recommended from the library for 60p a reservation.

Diggingdoris I have umpteen reels of cotton - but what happens when I decide to sew something on the spur of the moment?
I don't have that particular colour!

And yes, I wonder if it is something to do with that, although my DM tended to throw a lot out and my MIL was a hoarder.

I bought 'Halloween' & 'Christmas' cushion covers for the conservatory for less than £2 each .
I have just replaced the Christmas covers with nautical style. (62 pence each + a small p&p)
The quality is very good, they are usually from China so they can take longer to arrive than locally bought items.

I just retrieved some cushion covers from the pile put on one side for the charity shop and found some cushions in the under-bed drawers to fill them. I like cushions too.

What do I find almost impossible to resist? The internet! I have to absolutely force myself not to spend endless hours just surfing - looking at You Tube; checking the news and weather; reading about holidays I might, or might not like to go on; looking at all the houses for sale in my area on Rightmove even though I have no intention of moving; or even worse rambling around on Amazon to see what I might buy!

Books, but now on Kindle except for art or architecture books which I must have in hardback, oh and cookery books.

I used to be clothes mad and had wardrobes full, but here in France profonde I can't justify all that. shoes were also an almost fetish, but now feet won't allow that many styles, so making do with Hotter so at least I don't fall over.

Anything craft related, and fabrics. Mainly dictated by colour as I am addicted to colour - synaesthesia. I also love making things - clothes, cushion covers, things for the house, fabric decorations, cards. I don't need them, I just enjoy making.

We also seem to collect abandoned animals here because we are English and a soft touch.

It is lovely to hear that I am not alone in having 'a thing'. Mine is books, books and more books, scarves and socks, the quirkier the better. I have a drawer full, only really buy them in sales.
I love buying crafty bits and notebooks and colouring books.

I have a thing for vintage knitting yarn, ebay is a good source. I've got loads from there and some of it has been a bit beyond use but I still don't mind! It reminds me of the 70s when I was carefree!

Also I have a thing for handbags, not uncommon I know! I like the cheaper ones that you can bash about. I do have good leather ones but they always seem so heavy.

mollie, mine is also collecting cookery books, I have over a hundred, I do use them, but not all the time, and DH has built me a bookcase for them. I also read loads of detective stories, the more rubbishy the merrier. I keep this quiet from my book club friends.

I'm hooked on jumpers, cookery books (I usually only make a couple of recipes out of each), cheapish necklaces, and a new lipstick always gives me a boost.

I've read right through and no one has said Jigsaws. That's mine - from charity shops and jumble sales of course.

Glad I'm not alone NoHogran. I can't walk past a fabric shop without buying something. As long as I live to be 150 I should use up everything from my stash!

Anything to do with craft

I initially thought nothing, but on reflection it just might be nice undies. I’ve just done a quick calculation and I have at least 18 matching bra &knicker sets, plus a couple of strapless bras just in case. I’m stopping myself going the same way with pyjamas.

I can’t stop buying books on my kindle. Most are only 99p each so it is very tempting but I must have at least 50 that I haven’t opened yet! It’s really GOT to stop.
