I was going to ask ‘what’s your porn’ just to get your attention but ai didn’t want to offend anyone, not on a Sunday anyway. But my question is: what is it that you fin almost impossible to resist?

For me it’s cookery books. I’ve got loads and I’m always looking at more. I don’t use them much but I can’t ignore them either. They are my porn. A neighbour is addicted to anything to do with property so she’s hooked on all those moving, buying, renovating programmes, exhibitions and magazines. An old friend can’t resist a bargain designer label and has been known to travel across several counties to bag her bargain. So, what’s yours?

Soaps for me. French lavender soap, Italian lemon soap, Scottish heather soap. Any beautifully smelling soap and I'm there. Could be worse I suppose. At least it's small!

Any technical gadget that needs a network and has an operating system........I know I’m unnatural. I like shoes too if that makes me less weird in GN’s eyes

Iam64 Sun 14-Jan-18 20:46:15

Dogs, knitting, crochet, gardening - and mooching around shops related to those things. Books of course. I have been trying not to buy earthen ware jugs or beautiful 1930s ceramics - failing.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jan-18 20:46:39

Books, new or second hand, and anything to do with gardens, plants, plant pots, bird feeders, bird baths etc.
Scarves ( already have far too many) shoes and boots.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jan-18 20:49:17

Kitty grin

Chewy oh yes, soaps from garden centres for me, those slices of bright colours and gorgeous scents.
Oh, and scented candles.

Chewbacca Sun 14-Jan-18 21:31:37

Forgot the candles! Yankee for me. Got loads of them but I'm reluctant to light them! grin

lemongrove Sun 14-Jan-18 21:39:32

I bought lots of Yankee ‘melts’ the other day in the Sales,
At 45p each, and votives for 50p each ( only the Christmas ones in the Sales) it will take until next Christmas for me to use them all.blush

Menopaws Sun 14-Jan-18 21:45:34

Love a map

Chewbacca Sun 14-Jan-18 21:45:56

Gah! I went into town yesterday and never thought to look in Yankee shop. angry

Earrings. I'm under strict orders from DS1 grin to cut down on clutter. Earrings don't take up any space. I feel naked if I go out without any on. I search the internet for bargain handbags. Ebay has been an excellent source for good brands at minimal prices.

Smithy Sun 14-Jan-18 22:22:40

Scarves, bags, earrings, books, home mags and sandals. (With the North East weather, the sandals never wear out so have to put them in the charity shop so I can get some new ones)

JoyBloggs Sun 14-Jan-18 22:24:29

NanaandGrampy I love your poster!
I've got stashes of stuff all over the house for so many arts and crafts... Embroidery threads in every colour and every thickness, calligraphy inks in every colour, pens, crayons, boxes of watercolours, paper and card, piles of felt, rolls of fabric, patchwork materials, knitting wool, upholstery and curtain making supplies plus umpteen books about the various crafts.
The chests of drawers in what used to be the DCs bedrooms are stuffed!

My Eurosport app and TennisTv app to watch tournaments around the world. I am waiting for the Australian Open to start, they are 11 hours ahead of us. Will be watching from about 06.00 tomorrow morning in the hopes of watching my favourite Rafa Nadal.

I am a sucker for reading recommendations about cosmetics in all forms and going out to buy them pdq ?‍♀️

I’m also hooked on the smell of menthol as in a Vicks inhalant - yes I know I’m weird.

NanaandGrampy Sun 14-Jan-18 22:41:38

Our houses sound the same joy lol

Jalima1108 Sun 14-Jan-18 23:24:06

N&G I need that poster!
But I have been having a lovely time sorting out all the art/craft/fabric/yarn/embroidery silks etc.

Jalima1108 Sun 14-Jan-18 23:24:49

and the old curtains that could be used for shepherd costumes etc.

I've found myself somewhat bemused by thinking about this. My initial thoughts were pretty much that I don't have a particular 'thing' and I still think that's true. However, (you knew that was coming didn't you?) as I've read about everybody else's 'things' I have to acknowledge that I have tons of most things identified here. I have enough scarves, jewellery (mostly cheap and cheerful), washbags, handbags, soaps, candles, craft materials, books, CD's, handcreams, face creams, wine glasses, liqueur glasses, crockery etc. to fill a good sized shop. My problem is that other people furnish me with whatever is their 'thing'.

My youngest daughter has an enviable handbag collection and having just had a New Year sort out she has passed on three of her designer handbags that I'm sure other grans would give their eye teeth for. My French relative buys me exquisite soaps, one of my dearest friends sells scarves and gifts me ones she thinks will suit me (both my daughter-in-law and mother-in-law frequently do the same; I have about forty/fifty scarves, many still with tags or in their wrappers), my older daughter and my mother-in-law obviously feel sorry for my poor skin and often buy me expensive hand creams and face creams - don't they know that I can make one tube of either last a whole year? I currently have three expensive, unused, still with tags washbags and the same number of cosmetic bags; someone buys me one every year. Because in the recent past we often entertained very large numbers we have glasses by the score and can have a cheese and wine party for forty people without having to borrow a glass a knife or a plate. The Wonderful Man buys me beautiful (Parks) candles - I have dozens of candles!

So, I don't have an actual, physical, 'thing' of my own - I haven't got room to have one!! What I do have, as I've just demonstrated, are lots of lovely generous people around me - family and friends are my 'thing'. smile

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 15-Jan-18 00:31:40

Having read the replies on this thread and agreed with so many of you, I have to admit that my 'thing' is just buying things. blush

I love buying things and it doesn't have to be for me, not at all.

N&G I love your poster because it could have been designed for me. I'm a broken down jewellery maker who sells jewellery online. I haven't made anything new for over a year, but I have supplies worth thousands of pounds in my back room. I will get going again, but your poster struck a nerve! blush grin

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 15-Jan-18 00:34:57

PS Before I started making jewellery, I used to go to craft fairs and buy the same thing every time - a pair of earrings and a bag of fudge! grin

JackyB Mon 15-Jan-18 07:23:40

Menopaws - do you mean maps that you fold up and put in a drawer or the old ones that you can frame and hang on the wall? Both have their fascination in different ways.

ginny Mon 15-Jan-18 08:06:46

My main thing is craft supplies. I have a craft room full but never enough. Fabric, wool, papers, embellishments etc.
Also books and although I don’t wear much jewellery, I do love rings.

Bathsheba Mon 15-Jan-18 08:07:33

Joy your house sounds very much like mine! My current passion is sewing, and has been for some time now, but I have over the years had many crafty passions, so I have several boxes of embroidery threads and lots of cross-stitch fabric; a huge bag stuffed with merino wool tops for felt making, together with hand carders and needles for needle felting; ceramic tiles, tile cutter and grouting; knitting yarn, masses of it; card stock, paper stock, greeting card blanks; rubber stamps, inkpads, craft punches; peel-offs, glitter, paper ribbons and other embellishments; beads; ribbons and trims.
And yes, all the books to go with this stash grin

Bathsheba Mon 15-Jan-18 08:11:54

ga what a lovely post - "family and friends are my 'thing'" smile

JoyBloggs Mon 15-Jan-18 08:20:32

Bathsheba You've just reminded me of a load of stuff I'd forgotten I had blush ... lots of rubber stamps, card blanks in every shape and colour, punches, beads etc etc etc! Hmm, perhaps it's time for a sort out!
