Long evenings

What do you lot do in the dark winter evenings? I read, listen to the radio and waste time on the internet. If I had a television I think that would be an equal waste of time.
I don’t often go out after dinner, don’t drive and live in a backwater with little happening.
I need something new to do. I sew a lot but do that early in the mornings. I love gardening but not in January.

Hi.

I have just signed up to FutureLearn, which offers free online courses, some very short, and others a few weeks in length. I am currently doing their online course about Autism which has been eye opening, very positive, with online videos, transcripts and online discussions if you want, have learned a lot. I have signed up for Mindfulness which will start next month.

Also planning to join the U3A, our local branch has theatre trips, walks, talks and seminars plus some weekly or monthly classes, some day time and a few in the evening.

Plus I do love watching TV!

Here is a photo of the jacket made out of squares. Not finished yet.

Probably just for use in the garden. But I might even line it or add some embroidery.

On the plus side, I love Audible listening books, which means I can do crafts and 'read' simultaneously.
On the minus, I was partway through a post-grad degree and frankly couldn't complete it once I retired.

I don't watch much live TV as I'm often out (the next four evenings!) but if you have to drive that can be a problem, hard to make yourself go out in the cold if you have to scrape the windscreen. We moved a couple of years ago to a lively very small town in North Wales, we only really use the car at night if we go to the theatre, so we can stay busy and mix with people, not sure what you can do if you don't want to move. I do like TV and reading and crafts but, unless you invite people to you for a book club or craft group they are rather solitary.

loopyloo, I love your jacket

I use my iPad a lot. I play bridge on line with real people and challenge my DD with short tornements. Read on my kindle app, no light needed. Read gransnet blog and add comments, even started a few threads, chat on the phone and FaceTime a bit. Read Facebook.

Watch TV but usually BBC iplayer so I can watch what I want when I want.

At night I go out rarely, especially after dark.

Thank you Anniebach. My daughter said it looked very eccentric but I shall continue to sew it together and regard as a designer item. No one else will have anything like it.
I have decided in January that the ONLY thing that matters is keeping warm and I will be able to wear that jacket over anything else.

Well done loopyloo. Enjoy the fruits of your labour. ?
