Is poor maternity care responsible for today's problems?
Talking throughout an exercise class
What do you lot do in the dark winter evenings? I read, listen to the radio and waste time on the internet. If I had a television I think that would be an equal waste of time.
I don’t often go out after dinner, don’t drive and live in a backwater with little happening.
I need something new to do. I sew a lot but do that early in the mornings. I love gardening but not in January.

Hi glammanana could you tell me the name of the documentary please sound interesting. Thanks
When my 61 year old DH was made redundant about two months ago I warned him that November and January were long and dark and that it was difficlt to fill the time. Strangely, the November we have just enjoyed was full of beautiful clear days when we were able to have long riverside walks which made it whizz by agreeably.
However, January is here and, though the days have started to lengthen finally, it's a good old shlepp to March.
I have a regular schedule of time filling (wasting) activities. I clean the house, wash and iron and cook in the mornings, usually while listening to Radio Four and Radio Four Extra catch-up programmes. In the afternoon I take in a long walk of at least an hour and read. Since reading is my greatest pleasure I can stretch this out until the late afternoon. I have afternoon tea with cake, read again and then it is time to make dinner. The evening is spent partly on the sofa with the DH watching a selected programme on TV.
We have to keep our spending down which curtails our ability to travel or visit anywhere expensive. However, we are National Trust members and have some properties nearby which we can visit for free. We also live twenty minutes away from the Central Tube line and have found a free carpark so we sometimes have a cheapie day out in London.
Recently we had a walk through Hyde Park, an afternoon at the (free) Wallace Collection followed by free tea at the Oxford Street John Lewis (with vouchers) and then in the evening attended their 'Prosecco and mince pies' shoppers' evening event. The Tube cost us about £18 between us and we thought that wasn't too bad for a day out in London together. We have more of these planned.
Otherwise, roll on February and March.
i play solitaire mah jong while listening to tv/internet tv shows/after certain point i read./too cold to do much else and keeps me from eatting everything in sight
I read, crossword puzzles, good box set and I love the sport on TV, occasional trip to shops, meal out, gym, drama production or visit my friends house.
I live in Sweden and the TV is atrocious, but I pay to stream from the UK. I always find a programme to keep me going. I make cards, although havent done for a while, I have just finished writing a book, and am now editing it then trying to find a literary agent to take me on, now that is a challenge, the winter nights so far havent been too bad, and now it is getting lighter each day.Roll on spring!
As an OU graduate I know the value of their courses. Nowadays I use the FutureLearn website to provide good quality free courses to learn about a wide range of things. I am about to start on How to Read a Novel, followed by Genealogy and then a course about Suffragettes all for free. These help to take up time in the winter.
What about reading? You can download lots, some for free on Kindle, or shop at Amazon.
I love to read, sew, do creative things. I watch telly most evenings and sometimes
do a bit of card making. I'm never bored.
Grannyknot - thanks for the advice, I prefer not to use Facebook either
I do like to watch some T.V, but select what I want to watch. I quite enjoy the adult colouring books, and get quite absorbed in these...very therapeutic as well.
I usually arrive home from work about 5.45 have a quick bite to eat and then 3-4 nights I'm out. Monday at Guides, Tuesday at Rainbows (both meetings are at Community Hall at end of my street) Wednesday another Rainbow unit. This week I have a meeting on Thursday evening (I'm a Division Advisor for Rainbows too), includes supper so don't have to worry about tea, getting a lift there and back so don't have to take the car, bonus. Evenings when I'm at home I tend to catch up on housework and maybe do some crocheting. Sunday evening I babysit for my daughter while she's at work (on her own with 4 children aged 6-13).
I read, do crosswords/ sudoku, use fb, done some FutureLearn courses & watch TV, some new series starting this week, I have Sky so plenty of Box Sets to catch up on before the light nights when I want to get out in the garden.
I do drive but hate night driving. As I'm a Widow I can do as I please so no fighting over the TV, I love to be warm & cosy whilst the weather is cold/wet/windy
I am writing my memoirs as a child which is for my son and family. When I have finished this I shall do my teenage years in the swinging sixties. Other than that I am having a go at patchwork, also read, watch tv and explore the internet. Time goes quickly
I agree with others that TV isn’t a waste of time. I love a good crime drama, documentaries/current affairs and Corrie. I also enjoy reading and listening to audiobooks. I do a jigsaw occasionally. I like the wooden wentworth ones. They are expensive, but many are resold on ebay after being completed only once. I am also a fan of Twitter and Tweet a lot, usually about politics and current affairs, sometimes about other things e.g. a TV programme. It’s very engaging. You get to know people who tweet about the same stuff and it is not as banal as Facebook often is!
i love the long winter evenings and never feel guilty at watching dramas and nature documentaries i also write and read spending time with my cat and play online scrabble
I do word searches Suduko knitting jigsaw puzzles some three .d. Paint by numbers. Colouring in books.
There are some fantastic things on tv, really interesting that you might like, I learn a lot and am selective but don't watch it all the time
I love to watch TV especially Walter Presents .... seriously good programmes, loving Spiral on BBC4, and Vera is back! M
I'm a radiophobe and spend lots of time listening to BBC Iplayer radio. There's a Barry Humphreys (yes, Dame Edna!) programme on Radio 2 looking back at music from times gone by, which I'm just about to switch on. I love Tony Blackburn and Paul Gambacini, I save their programmes to listen to in the evenings whilst I'm browsing the internet or just relaxing. I also catch up with the radio 4 dramas or Book at Bedtime. Then I sit in bed and read a bit of a biography and then several pages of fiction. Heaven.
I watch some tv (not a lot) and i spend my evenings on line with facebook and love playing scrabble and word battle.
watermeadow. One of the sites on internet that has given me immense pleasure is JIGIDI free online puzzles. It is a friendly and informative site. You can play at any level and choose the puzzle subjects you prefer. It is also fun to post your own photos as puzzles. People's comments are often fun and encouraging. It was Danish originally but players cover the Whole world.
I play scrabble on facebook against real people, ( you can invite your facebook friends to play) or you can pay random people.
Me too see my post further down the page
I while away the evenings into the small hours quite easily. However, am I the only elderly lone female who would like a man to entice her to bed early?!!!!!!!!!!!!
