xmas guilty pleasures

this weekend, my other half will be away with his cronies on a pre-xmas jolly and I am over the moon! grin

I will, in this order:

- go out and get the last of my xmas shopping, enjoying a nice hot chocolate while I'm out.
- come back and go for a walk over the fields
- get in a nice hot bath with essential oils (and maybe a glass of wine balanced on the edge!)
- with dressing gown on and fire lit, I will settle down with something dreadfully indulgent (garlic bread might well be involved) and watch the entire (original) series of Pride & Prejudice!!
- I might also be very bad and open one of the Terry's chocolate oranges that are supposed to be for Christmas day blush

What would you do on such a weekend?

Oh for such an opportunity, regrettably she never goes ANYWHERE ! I have to go away to get any peace at all

Sounds lovely, Kiernan!
I could gorge myself on P and P any time. In the past dds and I watched it so often, we joked that we could go on Mastermind with Who Said What To Whom in P and P as our special subject!
Dh bought me the video (then) not long after the series was on air, and having read no Austen I think he was surprised at how much he enjoys it.

Another I could gorge myself on is the whole Pallisers series, but that's 24 episodes! Fantastic for the long winter nights, especially in between Christmas and New Year, when there's no more shopping or wrapping to be done, and still lots of Christmas chocolates to eat up!

What a decadent lot of Gnetters you are. It all sounds fab-u-lous darlings.

Sheilasue Fri 15-Dec-17 15:01:17

Watch a Xmas film, with a g&t bag of crisps and a sandwich.

Lots of chocolate - mmmmmmmm! Unfortunately he never goes away on his own. (Sigh! )

I live alone so I get away with being a slattern in the housework department and indulge myself a little too often. I've a bad cold at the moment so am drinking lots of tea and I might indulge in a cherry brandy later.
I don't feel like eating much with a sore throat despite the fact that a poster here has reminded me how much I love crisps - clearly the last thing it needs. Are you meant to 'starve a fever and feed a cold' or is it the other way round? Anyway I've spent today doing my favourite hobby - sewing, then it'll be feet up in front of the telly later.

Living on my own, I can spoil myself any time I want. I'd love to have a long, hot bath but with wonky knees it's hard to get in and harder to get out, so a nice hot shower has to suffice. I'm planning to have a pyjamas day on Sunday and watch the new series of The Crown. Hope nobody phones me!

BBevan - you just made me laugh. For a moment there I was wondering what sort of drink is Ben Hur (a bit like Irn Bru, perhaps?) Is it the short tunics you like or perhaps the knives coming out of the chariot wheels? grin

If I was left on my own for a day I would have to make sure the house was clean and tidy first and then I'd go into town, look at the shops in a leisurely way and perhaps buy something wastefully expensive. After that I'd have lunch somewhere nice and get a taxi home. Then I'd hang up the new purchases, making sure I kept the receipts as I'd be sure to take most of them back, and make a nice cup of tea to drink with a delicious scone with butter and jam. After that I'd probably spend too much time on GN before having a shower and putting on 'leisure clothes' (not sure what they are exactly but they sound comfortable). Then I'd settle down in front of the fire, thoughtfully laid by DH before he went out, and read my kindle. When I got hungry I'd order in a pizza, which I've never done before because DH claims not to like them. When it arrived I'd pour myself a glass of something nice and settle down in front of the TV with my pizza. I'd choose anything I liked on TV and I'd turn up the sound as there'd be no-one around to tell me it was too loud. Gosh, that sounds wonderful, but I expect I'd be dying for DH to come home for someone to talk to.

Sorry - should have written BBbevan.

NotTooOld. None of those. I like a good cry and Charlton Heston is lovely in his blue cloak. Saw the film first in the 1950,and numerous times since

I am on my own so can treat myself anytime without guilt but my ideal day would be - an early morning walk on the beach go back home and make a very strong filter coffee to have with an Aldi almond mince pie . Walk into the town centre , have a make over done by one of the ladies on the Lancôme counter in Boots . Looking fabulous I would visit an Art gallery then pop into the gallery restaurant for lunch . Go home , bubbly bath with Jo Malone scented candles , Pjs on I would spend the rest of the day on the sofa watching TV without guilt . Maybe cheese and crackers and a glass of Merlot and then cuddle up with the cats until bedtime . Oh and maybe a Cadbury fruit and nut chocolate bar which I would share with said cats (yes they do like it)

Master chef the Professionals on catch up ( I have my favourite to win) followed by a long hot bath with some expensive soap and bubbles. Into jammies for an evening with Doctor Zhivago accompanied by a couple of glasses of Malbec (or any red really) and a box of chocolate gingers. Ah well, I can dream.

For Christmas I have bought myself a box of Charbonnell and Walker salted caramel truffles. I am not going to share them with anyone just run off and have one when nobody is looking.

When I have the house to myself over a few days I clear things out - I can spread the contents of cupboards and drawers all over the place for days on end while I sort it all out and then put a lot of it back again.

Christmas quality chocolate ginger and a block of marzipan would be my treats, or perhaps some Stollen bites. My drink indulgences would be mulled wine or cider after a long walk along the river and iced sherry with a chunky turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing sandwich.
As for a film - I love the Amanda Root/Ciaran Hinds version of Persuasion. Also Zulu. That Zulu singing gets me every time as does Michael Caine in all his youthful glory.
And I'd have a large cat with me.

Norah Sat 16-Dec-17 14:49:18

Good chocolate gateau. Port and tonic with orange slices and mint. Jamas by the fire.

Marnie Sat 16-Dec-17 16:29:44

Nobody visits for Christmas so only have to get what we need. The day is like any other with carers coming in and meals being delivered. No parcels to open as family don't send any. Sad but that is how it is. T his year though for the 1st time in years i have put up a tree. A real one. Wow. Twinkley lights. Another day another year another day another year. Hoping that one day it will change but in acceptance as to how it is. Merry Christmas all.

maryhoffman37 Sat 16-Dec-17 16:43:51

I don't have the concept of "guilty pleasure." I go just for "pleasure." At Christmas there will be 8am Communion to start, while our visitor has a lie-in, prosecco, nuts (I do love nuts), a good red with the lunch (or Dinner, as another thread insists), all the trimmings, a special vegetarian dish for me, crackers, carols, home-made mince pies, log fire, present unwrapping, definitely no Queen's Speech, something schlocky on TV in the evening, port and more nuts.

W11girl Sat 16-Dec-17 21:14:31

I have no guilty pleasures...is there something wrong with me?!

Bridgeit Sat 16-Dec-17 21:39:49

For you Marnie??????☃️Sending best wishes you are being thought of . X
