I am excited because..........my foster son is coming to visit today. Hooray!! grin grin grin (He's also bringing his closest friends with him to visit his 'English family'.)

Nearly sixteen years ago a young teenage boy from Taiwan came to stay with me for a week while his homestay family went on holiday. He was here to learn English and although he had attended the local International School for a month or so he spoke barely any English and understood very little. He was overweight, shy and culturally adrift and we did our best to make him feel at home. We were so successful that at the end of the week he refused to leave us and return to his homestay family and begged us not to send him away; after several urgent phone calls between his mother and the school we were asked if we would allow him to stay for the reminder of his time in England and we agreed. He lived with us for almost a year and a half, taking holidays with us, celebrating birthdays etc. and eventually, at his family's request, I became his legal guardian. He did 'O' and 'A' levels and then went on to do a Foundation Degree, a BA (Hons) and finally a Masters Degree; returning to us for weekends and holiday periods. Eventually, after eleven years in the UK, he went back home to his first family in Taiwan where he now works as Business Manager in the family firm.
Since we first agreed to him living with us he has been a son to The Wonderful man and me, and a brother to my children. When he left I was devastated; I really thought I would hardly ever see him again, but he has managed to get home most years - and sometimes several times a year when he's heard I'm ill. He came home to attend their weddings when my son and daughter each got married and visits as soon as he can when there are new babies. I love him to pieces and am counting down to his 6pm arrival in great excitement.

Sorry to say, zilch! That may change next week if one of my premium bonds win a reasonable amount.

Oh that is fantastic grannyactivist how lovely. No wonder you are excited.

Compared with you, nothing at all really but my DD and I are going to visit the Christmas market in York this Saturday. We very rarely get to spend mother daughter time together, so looking forward to a good old gossip and hopefully a nice meal and drink, without MEN or KIDS !! grin

Nothing quite so impressive!

The little community choir that I run has its last rehearsal tonight for our Christmas event in the village church, where we sing, with friends joining in and the children from the village school. It is such a joyous occasion with lots of laughs and lots of bells - it gets a bit noisy!! Everyone has such a wonderful time. I do always get excited about it because it encapsulates all the things that matter to me: the opportunity for everyone to sing regardless of skill, children enjoying themselves without videos/iPads/phones alongside people of all ages, and the village coming together to support everyone's efforts.

Lovely for you Grannyactivist
I have found I don’t get excited about anything really I do look forward to some things but excited no, in fact I can’t remember the last time I was really excited, maybe when I was a kid

You have made my day Grannyactivist with your wonderful true story. Have a happy reunion tonight.

We are going through a dreadful time at present, but you have raised a smile. Thank you. ?

DanniRae Wed 29-Nov-17 15:11:23

What a heart warming story Grannyactivist - I hope you have a really enjoyable visit from your foster son and his friends x
NanKate - sorry to hear that you are having a dreadful time. I send my love and some flowers x

That’s wonderful, grannyA! You deserve to be excited. I don’t get excited about much these days I’m afraid, until the fifteenth of March when the new trout fishing season starts. Then I will be very excited indeed! Seems ages away sad.
NanKate ??. Hope things improve for you soon.

Nothing as exciting as your news ga. I am fairly excited about going away for the weekend though. Tomorrow, DH and I are off to Harrogate. We are attending the Country Living Christmas Fair on Friday. Three nights in a very friendly B&B (we stay there every time we go).

That's a lovely story. I have a Mexican son, who was also a language student who stayed for over a year and returned a few times, though I haven't seen him now for over 10 years but he has a very busy family and professional life.

Lovely , lovely story amidst some of the doom and naysayers here on GN Granny . I can totally understand your excitement. He sounds like a wonderful young man.

I am excited to be going back to our old town, that we moved from 6 weeks ago to celebrate the birthday of one of our GC. I can't wait for some serious cuddles x

Lovely story ga and others. sunshine

Nothing special for me but nothing bad is going on in my immediate family currently - so that's good.

Leaves me time to worry about 2 neices, two sisters in law and two brothers in law. Hey ho.

Have a super time ga.

(hugs) Kate - do you need a rant?

GA, what a lovely story about your Taiwanese son. It says so much about you and the WM. I'm not sure that 'excited' is the right word but I'm looking forward to seeing DS2 and his two DSs, 10 and 12, when they come here for the weekend before Christmas. I haven't seen them since early September because my broken shoulder made it difficult for me to travel. They will drop me off for Christmas at DS1's home in Sandhurst because their own house is still being extended and, although the outside walls and roof are done, it's chaotic inside with walls being knocked down and new rooms created. So not so much excitement for me as quiet (?) satisfaction with GC and cats.

Great news GA lovely to hear that you are going to have an exciting time.
No not much going on here - looking forward to seeing DD2 and adored GS between Xmas and New Year other than that dreading the postman coning with my operation date before Xmas - I am hoping for January.
Have a great time. xxxx

Coolgran65 Wed 29-Nov-17 18:26:58

GA, you've warmed my heart.

glammanana Wed 29-Nov-17 18:38:04

Such lovely news GA how wonderful for you all.
My special news will be arriving next April and May with the arrival of a new DGC & new GGC so I will be all cuddled up during those months for sure.
Enjoy your evening with your son GA

Sar53 Wed 29-Nov-17 19:23:39

What a lovely story GA , I hope you have a wonderful time together.
I am very excited because DD2 is expecting her second baby in six weeks, 9 1/2 years after her first . I didn't think she would have any more and her first DD is also very excited about having a sibling. I am looking forward to lots of cuddles.

Chewbacca Wed 29-Nov-17 19:29:04

Well, I'm a bit excited because I'm hoping to hear that I will be made redundant shortly. The redundancy payment that I'll get will tide me over very nicely to when I get my SRP, which has been put back 3 times now. Fingers crossed!

Nanabilly Wed 29-Nov-17 19:39:47

What a heart warming story GA .Enjoy his visit.
I'm excited as our son and gs are coming to stay for a few days this friday and we shall be meeting his new gf who has made him the happiest he's been for a few years.

Willow500 Wed 29-Nov-17 20:46:24

Granny what a fantastic story and a testament to you and your husbands care and commitment. No wonder you are excited - I hope you have a wonderful evening with your son. We are getting beyond excited as our son is coming to stay for 6 weeks in a fortnight together with Dil and our 2 little grandsons. They emigrated 4 years ago before the first one was born and this is the first time they've been back. We have had so many toys and children items loaned by friends and relatives the little ones will think Santa has been already. grin

How lovely GA. I don't have anything specific as such, but I'm excited about Christmas coming up, despite not being "of the faith". I just love all the tinsel and tat, the trees and cards, the Christmas carols and all the excited children. Many of the homes where I live decorate the outside in the most amazing ways. I love walking around admiring their displays with DH and our dog. I've enjoyed doing the cards and am halfway through shopping. Usually I detest shopping but everyone just seems to be in festive mode, even tho it's still November. First time I've felt like this in Years. Added huge bonus is that I have Christmas off this year ? have lots of problems and issues but I've just decided that I am going to take and enjoy each day and make it the best I can. Got to finish cleaning up and sorting because tomorrow the tree is going up! Even bought some new devices, small but just lovely. Also tried my hand at making some and have turned out pretty good! Wishing each of you joy and peace, particularly if you are struggling c

Lovely story GA. I'm excited, not only because I've recently arrived in Oz to stay with my middle DD and her family, but because DD and I are flying up to Alice Springs this weekend and travelling on the Ghan from there to Darwin. I've always wanted to do it and its an early 'special' birthday present from me to to her and an even earlier one from me to me! ??

MesMopTop Thu 30-Nov-17 03:24:09

You are in for a fabulous time Marmight, enjoy every minute of your trip!

NfkDumpling Thu 30-Nov-17 07:09:03

Ooooh, the Ghan to Darwin! How fantastically wonderful! Will you be able to spend time in Kakadu?

And all the re-unions and family times looked forward to are wonderful. And congratulations on your redundancy Chewy. Retirement is wonderful!

Christinefrance Thu 30-Nov-17 08:57:16

That is a wonderful story GA congratulations to all of you, hope you have a great time.
Nothing major for me but looking forward to a Christmas meal with my fellow volunteers next week and all the excitement of the festive season to come.
Do hope things get better for you soon NanKate flowers
