What is in your garden ?

A flogging spanner from an oil rig, set in concrete. Given to me as a joke years ago, I put it outside and got such disapproving looks from a neighbour, just had to leave it there. Brought it with me when I moved.

maggie you still got a good deal and by not over haggling you put a smile on the face of the seller who no doubt was a great deal poorer than we are. So well done for not pushing your budhha to the lowest price.

I've a lovely carved chuckling Buddha on my masterpiece that we were so pleased to buy at a great price from a seller on the Great Wall. We showed our guide and asked how much he thought we'd paid. £3 (equivalent), he said? We'd paid 8. This tells the story of our haggling skills round the world.

I think I’m a little bit of a Buddhist in that there’s a good chance God will send me back to have another go. I don’t think I’m bad enough for Hell, but that rather implies I’m too conceited for Heaven. He’ll just have to send me back to try again! (I am a very woolly Christian).

A great deal of Christian ideas have been adopted from buddhism. Or rather the Buddha thought about this first.

The teachings of Buddism have more in common with Christianity than most other religions.

I don't see that belief in the resurrection is so very different to reincarnation. I am sure that the Buddha and Christ would have got on very well with each other indeed.

One gnome, one cat, one caterpillar, bamboo chimes, various bird feeding stations, a (red, we don’t have anything else) squirrel feeder. Wouldn’t have a Buddha as it would remind me (physically) of somebody I don’t like!

Won old stone sundial, ditto bird bath. Stone tortoise, 2 Oxfordshire stone sinks from my parents garden and insisted they came to France, they weigh a ton, OH was not amused, they are noe nicelr weathered, mossed an ivied and have an old French millstone on top. One day this will be a water feature when OH extracts digit. Lots of ancient farm machinery. Boddha resides in tnbe dining room.

When we moved into our bungalow 20 years ago,we found a couple of small gnomes. I am not a great fan of them, but I could not get rid of them because as I saw it, it was their home before it was ours, so how could I could I evict the little chaps?

I have two small concrete sheep which are about ten inches tall. Their front legs are over the edge of the path, their back ends are in the flower border. Also a couple of small cups with attached saucers, a mini trellis (with a mini rose) and a silver coloured daisy which has a solar powered light. I think maybe that's enough for my pocket-handkerchief garden.

I have a Buddha head on top of my boat with lavender either side. This is my garden. I am planting pots of bulbs for next Spring. A large fuschia is in a cauldron on the front...still in flower. Next summer the top of my boat will be full of flowers

We have a weather vane attached to the garage. It was commissioned by the children for DH'S 60th and is beautiful. We have a slate thermometer attached to the wall outside the back door. Nothing else. I feel we are failing!!

In my garden I have a birdbath for the birds - a Grecian statue, a figure surrounded by seashells, 3 wooden elephant stands for plant pots and one or two other small items. Oh - and 2 real squirrels who are very mischievous! See pic.

A large Young Buddha, facing north towards French windows, with a stone mortar bowl placed in front which we enjoy watching the birds drinking from. Also dotted around are various concrete animal ornaments (some really ugly) which my husband has 'rescued' from charity shops. Many years ago when we moved here I managed to persuade him to leave behind 'Bat Woman' - a disturbing very odd statue of Our Lady. Six months later our ex-neighbour came to visit proudly bearing the statue having assumed it had been left in error. Much hilarity ensued but don't remember how I managed to 'lose' it after that.

A fairy garden that I made out of a broken plant pot!

A stone badger we inherited. We found it lurking in the undergrowth when we dug out some new borders. Cleaned it up and positioned it under a fern so it's semi-hidden. Wind chimes OH made for me. A stone birdbath which is very old and ornate. Eamon and Seamus, two small (tiny) Leprechauns. I bought one for him and one for me when we had separate homes. Now they are united beneath a tree and under foliage at the far end of the garden. We know they are there.

Depending on location, in some cases, a garden is not on one level so has to be tiered. I have seen them on tv gardening programmes so it would not be a problem to place a Bhudda at the highest point looking down on the rest of the garden.

No buddhas in the garden, but two in the house. But various frogs, hedgehogs, tortoises, birds, dogs, chickens (none of them real) in the garden.
Also a crocodile and a kangaroo. (memories of my trip to Australia). (not real either).
Also two bird tables for real birds, lots of hanging feeders, and a nice bench seat for me to sit and watch.
I'm planning to buy a swinging-seat next summer.

We have two buddhas watching over us in the garden plus the usual assortment of stone bird baths and feeders. The two cats who have lived and died in our current home are also buried in the garden and each has its last resting place marked with a stone cat statue, but perhaps the most nostalgic piece is an old terracotta urn that no longer has a bottom to it and is badly frost damaged but it used to belong to my great grandparents. It used to live in their pantry where it was used to store the bread and every time I see it I am reminded of my childhood and those wonderful old people.

I have an old fashioned beehive. No bees, I use it to store plant pots. My dad was a bee keeper and he was given several by an old lady who had never used them for bees. She was given them in the 1920s and they weren't new then! So this beehive must be over 100 years old.
