Coffee shops

MissAdventure, my belated condolences to you. I am saddened by your news and my heart goes out to you. I hope you have the support of family and friends as you come to terms with the loss of your daughter. How very sad.

You can't just ask for a coffee. They will ask what kind?
And they don't mean Maxwell House or Nescafé?
They will look blank. But they will understand a skinny latte frappuchino though....
It's a whole new language nowadays.

Me too I haven't been on this thread so I would like to add my condolences to misadventure too.

Gave up on coffee shops ages ago, I can't cope with paying for coffee which sometimes has an undesirable impact on my stomach. Also the NOISE! If I was home and my neighbours were that noisy I'd have to move, so definately not paying for it.

missadventure so sorry to read your post. It's so hard I know. Hope your virtual eccles cake was even better than the real thing

Although I love ‘real’ coffee I have to have instant these days, don’t know why, but good coffee now makes me feel nauseous.Could be medications I suppose.

On the subject of coffee, does anyone else get confused by all the different coffees these places sell? I recognise an Americano but that is about it. Go in and just as for a coffee and you get a blank stare!!

Where possible I stick with small independent shops, they at least understand what this grumpy old woman wants!

I came very late to this thread and just read your very sad news MissAdventure, my sincere condolences on the loss of your daughter.

Callgirl1 you remind of one of my senior moments. Last year I had an upset stomach and mixed for myself some Kaolin and Morphine. It tasted rather odd but I did recognise the taste and smell. I realised I had given myself a dose of Calamine Lotion ?

I like my tea made with leaves, in a pot and left to brew for a few minutes.

I like mine strong; builders tea.

Oh, I’ve never tried that Callgirl (calamine). ?
MissA - you drink tea properly, though I’d probably want a bit more milk. Also like it weak. Also use bags. Total philistine!

I’m generally a coffee lover but can sometimes be tempted by a very weak Earl Grey without milk. Don’t much like any other tea though. Good job we’re all different!

Oh I like Yorkshire tea. In a pot, with just a tiny bit of milk. Lovely!

Earl Grey is like drinking calomine lotion!

I could get DH to virtually roast some of his best coffee for us

I'll serve Yorkshire tea -can't be doing with Earl Grey either. I'm a hopeless case!

Deedaa and Terribull as we are all such coffee lovers we should have a virtual coffee morning to raise funds for impoverished Nans/Grans etc requiring a caffeine boost. Kitty could join us and serve Earl Grey or Yorkshire Tea to those who prefer tea to coffee. We could have a trio of Latin Jazz musicians to entertain us.

I don't remember Kardomah but we had Carwardines, which sounds very similar. You could smell the coffee roasting from the other end of the street. It was always crowded out. I'm another fan of McDonald's coffee- the only product I really enjoy from there.

You're not the only one kitty I never drink coffee and the smell of it makes me feel nauseous. I don't think it's acceptable for the smell to be allowed to polute the fresh air outside these places. It's like passive smoking.

I have a worse confession - I can't stand coffee! Coffee shops were the place to meet when I was a teenager and I was teased for asking for hot chocolate!

On the subject of coffee I ll make a confession I ve never had a Starbucks or Coster or Greggs I do always have a coffee after lunch with friends but find the prices in those particular places very depressing
