MissAdventure, I was so sorry to read about the loss of your dear daughter, my condolences and best wishes to you and yours.

Re coffee, my daughter went to the Café Nero stand at Kings Cross station the other day, and asked for 2 black coffees. She was informed that the correct thing to ask for is an Americano, not black coffee.

I'm rather fond of an eccles cake, Mrsmopp. (They give me terrible heartburn, but an imaginary one should be fine)

This thread is a strange one - coffee and condolences - then again maybe not so strange.

Thank you. It was this time last year or thereabouts when I posted that my mum had died, and everybody was very kind then too, although it was my first thread.
You really are kind people, as morethan says.

Please accept my sincere condolences Miss Adventure I think there is somthing cathartic about writing our worse nightmare events down and pressing send. It’s especially helpful when our pain is acknowledged. You granetters are just wonderful.

Miss Adventure - so very sorry about your daughter. I'm glad you have managed to talk about it a bit here.

I love strong dark coffee, and also iced coffee. And, coffee ice cream - yum. I prefer going in individual coffee shops if possible. Near me, Southwold has recently succumbed to a Costa much against the wishes of a lot of the local people. They didn't want chains taking over from the small independent shops.

Thank you all, again. I'm glad everyone is still posting about coffee: mine and my daughters' favourite tipple.

MissA - I'm very sorry for your loss.

On the coffee front, if I have to go to Costa or Starbucks, I always have tea, their coffee is so bitter.

I like Costa coffee, Starbucks is too weak. John Lewis is now mega-strong. We don’t seem to have much in the way of independent coffe shops around, all chains.

Sorry about that Miepl, why don't you start a thread suggesting a meet up for your area and see what that throws up.

MissAdventure I don't know what to say, we never know what sorrows other people endure. My heartfelt sympathy, for what it's worth, it doesn't seem enough for such a loss.

Costa coffee can be sooo strong. I once drank two Americanos- friends kept walking in- and didn't eat. By the time I got home I was positively jangling and very jittery with the caffeine

That was me!. Miepl, I don't live in Totnes, we have made a point of stopping off there on a couple of recent trips going further west. It's a lovely town awash with some very nice coffee shops, we wanted to visit it after reading an article on how they've made a stand to support local business. Worth a visit. I'm thinking there would be a Gransnet local to your general area that you could access through this site who could put you in touch with local grans.

MissAdventure my sincerest sympathy for your loss. Bereavement is a lonely place and however much support or love you feel around you, at the end of the day no-one can take that away.

What a sad time for you MissA, I’m so sorry you’ve had such a loss. I can understand why you felt like
pretending it hadn’t happened, sometimes it’s hard to face up to our own sadness. Keep talking to folk here if it helps you feel less alone with it all.

On the subject of Kardomah I used to go to one in Kingsway in the early 60s and got to know all the new coffee bars around Soho at thst time too. I’m not keen on Costa or Starbucks.

Oh no, MissA, that was a shock to read. Whyever feel sheepish? You sounded relieved to have said it and I’m glad you did. 35 is so young. I hope you’ve got lots of family support, and you will get lots on here. Thank you for telling us x

That sounds wonderful NanKate We have a little cafe owned by Italians which serves very good coffee at a reasonable price. Very good sandwiches, pannini and cakes too.

MissAdventure what sad news

On the Beareavement Forum Anniebach has written about her daugther's recent death. You may want to contact her but, that of course is up to you.

We are a small town which attracts many visitors there are 2 Costas, 1 Starbucks, Waitrose Cafe, 4 Independents, plus many restaurants offering tea, coffee and breakfast.

My favourite is a small independent Italian cafe which serves tiny pastries, delicious cake, Italian sarnies, whilst playing all forms of jazz from modern to Latin. As soon as the sun comes out they put deckchairs outside for customers with a small blanket on each chair in case of a breeze. Oh and did I mention the glasses of wine ? ???☕️

McDonald's have good coffee! Useful knowledge at motorway services.
I usually frequent independents when in Colchester, loads to choose from.
