According to Wiki and author Margaret Baker, there used to be 13 ingredients in a mince pie to represent Christ and his twelve Apostles. Didn't know that. I imagine the recipe has changed over the years.

made mince pies last week after my OH saw them on an ad ,I made apple and mincemeat,iced mince pies and plain ones ,after he'd eaten about 5 I put the rest in the freezer...he's supposed to be watching his weight.

I put chopped mixed nuts on top of some last week instead of a lid and it worked very well. Especially well as Best Beloved didn't like them!
