On the subject of husbands.........

My friends husband cooked a really nice meal, and asked her if she enjoyed it. She said yes.
Him: "But you don't like tomatoes."
Her: "Yes, but they were cooked into the sauce, and I don't mind them like that"
Him: "Well, I've never understood how anyone could dislike tomatoes anyway. How is it that you say you don't like them? What, precisely is it that you dislike about them?"

Is it a coincidence that the ad I can see at the bottom of this thread is "Adopt a Donkey" ?

Oh dear, sounds rather like the many discussions i have had over the years when people find put i dont like onions.
How could you not like onions?(easy have disliked them for years)
You cant cook without onions. ( yes i can)
Everything tastes awful without onions ( no it doesn't)
Everyone likes onions ( that may be true but i dont).

So when anyone tells me they dont like to toms, mushrooms, cucumber,whatever, i say.....ok. No problem.

That reminds me of when we rented a flat in S India. Chilli rules there!
In30 heat I tried to make a chicken dish, they were non veg.

Cooked chicken in chilli onion with potatoes and veg, and slyly bought in another dish.

About 6 trooped in and I served up.

Eldest son pipes up. ' No Gartic, no onion'!

They were already waiting in there, only in India do Jains not eat food grown under ground, tho tatties are.

The fridge was useless, and I was cooking on 2 rings, and was glad to see the back of them, but as friends we always ate at their house, but on the flight my baggs were full of shortbread, biscuits from UK. Gifts for all

Get the same with my visceral dislike of fresh milk. 'But you like cheese'.

I have a problem with raw tomatoes and raw onion - people are very surprised that I don't have a problem with them when they are cooked! (I think I am just odd!)

Actually, sunseeker, I can't get on with raw onion either, as I can taste it for hours after, but I use it all the time in stews, etc, and love it!

I have never liked milk M0nica and as a child the morning bottle of milk at school was sheer misery as I was made to sit at my desk until it was gone.
If we could get away with it another child would quickly swap their empty bottle for mine, that would be a good day for me. I still can't drink it.
Cheese, can't get enough, cream, love it.

So it's not just me!! Raw onion stays with me for days and gives me heartburn. Raw tomatoes bring me out in a rash (see said I was odd) I think I read somewhere that when tomatoes are cooked something is cooked out of them which is probably why I can eat them then.

Cooked tomatoes are much better for you than rebut we will get our knuckles rapped for staying off of the OP?

On the subject of husbands and Christmas presents: Mine asks me for a list and I, quite happily, provide it. Though I did buy myself a pair of boots and tell him they were from him - they were on the list. (He will wrap them up and I will open them on Christmas Day - it all sounds a bit daft, I know, but it works for us!)

This is rather personal and really not amusing at all especially to me and I hesitate to introduce a sober note.
My H has never been into buying presents, he would give me the money or say get yourself something. Birthday, Christmas , always.
Some years ago I had BC and he didn't change, the first Christmas when I was recovering I suggested that I would like a gold necklace, he didn't even reply so one day I got ready to go out and when he asked where I was going I replied to buy a necklace for myself out of my own money.
He got ready and came with me and bought it
Never since but now he is incapable of shopping so I treat myself to several nice things I want ( not need) at both Birthday and Christmas.

I may have told this story before but one year my DH asked me what I wanted for Christmas - I told him anything with diamonds! Christmas morning I opened a small parcel to find - a pack of playing cards!!! I would add that inside the pack was the most exquisite diamond brooch.

MOnica, I used to take a note to school at the start of each new year excusing me from milk. Occasionally I got a little bottle of orange juice instead! I love cheese and cream though.
Now as for dislikes, I can't stand strawberries. To me they are just little sour things that don't taste of anything much.

My DH and I usually tell each other what we would like for Christmas, and then buy it and wrap it up. This year he says he would like a new shaver with round heads. Plenty of those, so just need to choose one. I would like a smartphone. It'll probably need to be a joint gift from DH and DS, but that's okay by me.

Telly - I call your hubby's response 'having a go' - mine does this all the time, he starts a discussion on a seemingly inane issue, I keep quiet until he literally drags me into it, and then proceeds to find fault with my contribution! Drives me mad and when I point it out the whole thing escalates, so sounds like it's the same personality. Tell him you want a gift token from your favourite store/bookshop and then he has nothing to moan about.

You should have been at school with me! There was a queue to sit next to me when we had rice pudding, semolina or tapioca. I would wolf down my bowl, then surreptiously swap bowls with the girl on my left, then the one on the right. Hardly surprising that I grew to 5 ft 9 inches" I was always first in line for any spare bottles of milk too - still love it now.

I have a problem with cooked onions but adore them raw and use them in any way I can. Can't bear the thought of haricot beans, but love Heinz beans (or other brands). Weird because Heinz (or other brands) beans are haricot beans in tomato sauce!!

One year I spotted a lovely pair of earrings in a Pia catalogue. I circled them and left the catalogue open at the right page on the coffee table. The next day I added arrows pointing to the earrings. A day or two later I wrote on the page 'these would be lovely for Christmas'. I persisted for about a week but eventually just had to clear the coffee table so I left the catalogue in the fruit bowl. After a fortnight I gave up and bought them myself. I love him dearly but I just have to accept that he doesn’t do subtlety. Not that I was being subtle but hey.........

I don't have a husband now?but when I did he bought me a huge long gold necklace, the kind the rappers wear. I hated it so exchanged it for a ring. Friends..and neighbours ...asked if I loved my necklace. They had all tried it on before it was given to me.

MOnica and annsixty At school I hated warm milk and as I suffered frequent migraines with vomiting, my lovely teacher Miss Storey thought it might contribute, so she and my mum decided that I should have Ovaltine mixed in the milk each day. Loved it then and still do.
